  1. They regularly recruit expert scuba divers and train them in underwater archeology rather than the other way around, what with requiring a crazy amount of underwater hours and safety issues, if any of you guys have the lifetimes of hours required by any chance.
  2. A quick search brought several threads in general discussion and in the tavern, but i'm too lazy today to go through all the pages of results and link the relevant ones. Steam is also a good place to post and find some http://steamcommunity.com/app/311310/screenshots/?p=1&browsefilter=toprated
  3. For a second i thought it was a thread about prime numbers...
  4. You don't get to just ask actual people with bodies for stuff. You need to get on your knees and pray for that button.
  5. when you think you're joking but you have no idea how right you are https://www.ft.com/content/67532c78-e62d-11e5-a09b-1f8b0d268c39 ( an old and imperfect article but at least it's in english ) I remember some russian history teacher who said once that he couldn't teach history because it was changing too often, then he showed some history books for his class from different years XD Pretty sure the poles in moscow is presented as a defensive act in poland and as an aggression in russia XD
  6. Been looking at bit more closely into the polish navy of old what with what's coming and it has been a bit harder to find something than usually, mainly due to the fleet being inactive for a while, and most links being dead. Mostly i want a list of ships, from there i can look further. Books are all heavily criticized for their many errors. Nevertheless the following dead link, in polish, has proven useful, listing polish ships of interest for the period. It is regularly referenced in historical forums and ( was ) considered a reliable website. Just need to google translate the page if you need, and use the internet archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20080410144448/http://www.polskieokrety.republika.pl:80/spis okretow.htm The latest ships were Mars, 1650, 54 guns, and Postillon, in 1700. Then there is something of a black hole for the polish navy, with some exceptions later ( you can scroll down this one for other languages ). Here is a reliable polish article for context http://bazhum.muzhp.pl/media//files/Rocznik_Bezpieczenstwa_Miedzynarodowego/Rocznik_Bezpieczenstwa_Miedzynarodowego-r2011_2012-t6/Rocznik_Bezpieczenstwa_Miedzynarodowego-r2011_2012-t6-s155-169/Rocznik_Bezpieczenstwa_Miedzynarodowego-r2011_2012-t6-s155-169.pdf If anyone has a good live website on the subject, preferably in english, please share. Thank you.
  8. Yes, that's the incident in question indeed, i have not found the painting yet, it was more modern similar to this one: Anyhow i'll post it if i find it now that i can narrow it down. Both sides were seen throwing the rocks on it not just the grays. "The Diehards" by Don Troiani depicts the men of the Second Louisiana Brigade commanded by Col. Leroy A. Stafford fighting with stones in the deep cut. The brigade consisted of the 1st, 2nd, 9th, 10th, and 15th Louisiana Infantry Regiments. Beginning to run low on ammunition, Capt. Thos. Rice of Co. E, "Montgomery Guards," 1st Louisiana Infantry, recalling an incident at Sevastopol during his experience in the Crimea, quickly told his men, "Boys, do as we did at Sebastopol!" picking up a rock and throwing it at the Federals stuck on the other side of the embankment. Lt. Col. Michael Nolan of the 9th Louisiana shouted to his men to do the same. The idea caught on and eventually the whole line began to pick up rocks and hurl them over the embankment. Thank you!
  9. Hi, i remember that during the american civil war there was a moment where somewhere 2 opposing units ran out of ammo and started hurling stones at each other, i think i remember a painting of it and they were separated only by a few meters, like a slightly elevated railroad maybe? But i cannot find either the incident or the painting. Does anyone have any idea what i am talking about or was i just drunk? Thank you.
  10. Thanks for letting us know, i will definitely buy it second hand once it drops in price.
  11. Paris bridges are specifically designed to let only merchant ships through. It's clearly written all over the coat of arms.
  12. To link this to Naval Action Violence: Guns don’t kill people. Video games, the media and Obama’s budget kill people . [...] There exists in this country, sadly, a callous, corrupt and corrupting shadow industry that sells and stows violence against its own people, through vicious, violent video games with names like “Bulletstorm,” “Grand Theft Auto,” “Mortal Kombat,” and “Splatterhouse.” NRA's executive vice-president Wayne LaPierre "you can laugh about everything, but not with everyone"
  13. "democracy is the tyranny of the majority" I'll see what others say before committing but i'll be voting for a frigate.
  14. Of course there is power metal about unicorn invasions. Of course. Perfect song for the intro movie.
  15. I shall use this opportunity to remind that there should be mods in the steam workshop that allow anyone to do anything, thus you could make a custom figurehead of your choice, or download one made by someone else, although it would only be visible by yourself or other people using the same mod.
  16. Ok let's get a couple things straight, most of this is very speculative and lacks any data, if we talk about the chinese tower ships, there is no real record of their effectiveness, and the huge fortress was literally exceptional. In any case they were only suitable for rivers, and only for some of them. Very little is known about them. The whole 1421 thing has been debunked a while ago. The book was funny to read thought. Some say he didn't even write it himself. Here is some random link on the subject http://www.1421exposed.com/ but actual articles/reviews can be found easily by those interested in examples of bullshit history such as http://www.michaelsheiser.com/PaleoBabble/1421.pdf
  17. Rule The Waves + Naval Action +... Mechwarrior Online? Excel Spreadsheets needed to optimize everything like a boss? A forum where everyone shares their various designs? Sounds good to me.
  18. Can you get the ISBN or the author? It's probably an exclusively Chinese publication, local at that, which is why there are various titles in english. If you could share the links you have i can try to dig more, so far i have no luck neither.
