  1. at this growth rate, they could get into double digits before the wipe...
  2. Actual numbers is what I'm chasing. It does get muddy with alts. Here's the categories of players I see: Senior PvP players - active Junior PvP players (250 crew max) - active, but learning - not PB capable except for shallow battles or mortar brigs Solo PvP players - not interested in PB's PvE Players/Traders - rarely seen in PvP Rookies - 150 crew max Alts - Traders Alts - Active in PvP Total active players / week With Alts - some players fight for multiple nations, some fight alongside their primary character in battles. Anyone want to submit their estimate of their nation? Here's my assessment of France for the last week: 5 - Senior PvP players - active 3- Junior PvP players (250 crew max) - active, but learning - not PB capable except for shallow battles or mortar brigs 0 - Solo PvP players - not interested in PB's 1 - PvE Players/Traders - rarely seen in PvP 4 - Rookies - 150 crew max ?? - Alts - Traders 1 - Alts - Active in PvP 14 - Total active players / week
  3. It seems like the Dutch/GB/USA are not disputing the rough numbers... Breaking this down into approximate percentages of players by nation - it looks like this: USA 30% Dutch 20% GB 20% Pirate 15% Spain - rounding error France 3% Dane 9% Swedes 3%
  4. I don't know it needs to be salty... Yesterday evening, we hit 206 online after the PB at Castries - overall a good sign - that is the most players I've seen in months and months. How many of each nation? The pirates had 25 in the Castries PB, 2-3 more outside, the Dutch/USA had 7 in the PB, 6 or 7 that didn't make it in. The French had 5 screening, the Danes around 8-10 screening. I didn't see a single GB player, no swedes (or Spanish). So around 55-60 involved in the Castries PB. There would have been a few more pirates and some USA at the other PB - I didn't see any reports on that battle - but I know the Pirates didn't send many. I'm assuming 10+ USA and 4-5 pirates. So around 70 players out of 200+ involved in the two PB's. None of the 5 swedes I know were online at that time - so most of the swedes were not in the 200. I know of 2 French that did not join the screening. The other 130+ online have to be predominantly GB players, a good number of USA and Dutch players - and a few junior pirates. There certainly were few French, Swedes, or Danes in the 130+. So while some of the battles appear even, it's a very high proportion of French/swedes/Danish /pirates versus a fraction of the USA/GB/Dutch players.. By my rough calculations, the 200+ breaks down to be roughly: 30-40 pirates 125-140 USA/Dutch/GB 25-35 swedes/French/Dane Do you think these numbers are roughly right?
  5. what is the server population? From what I see, it is very scattered across time zones. Our small French clan has 4 or 5 in Europe, 1 in brazil, 2 in Canada, 7 or 8 in the usa, 1 in NZ, 1 in China. The danes have a high population in Asia. There are a considerable number of Aussie players playing for Pirates, Dutch and a few for the Swedes. There is no 'convenient' time for everyone. Sadly, the 46 hour timing on PB's hurts when you have people playing on weekends - only to have PB's scheduled at very inconvenient times on a Monday or Tuesday. You may not appreciate it, but you are not seeing 5am eastern USA PB's now - the last few are around 7am so more players could join.
  6. This is just a 'lazy button'. The strategy around outpost and ship management is getting your ships positioned ahead of time. It is called planning.... If you can just TP between battles, it reduces the pre and post battle screening to nothing. We need more PvP not less....
  7. The battle started at 6:39am eastern USA time. I typically wake around 6am, so the early USA time works out fine for me - I just have to leave for work by 8:30am +/-. I don't like PB's that start at 5am... I won't be awake for those. I thought this was a semi-reasonable time for some of the USA players. I was surprised some of the GB/USA didn't at least show. The Danes/Swedes/French showed at Ponce when we knew we would be outnumbered.
  8. I agree with a number of the points already made - so I will focus on things I don't see already presented. Make the nations and clans more 'controllable'. Currently national players cannot tell if other players are online except if they use national chat. Useful to show alts listening in to chat. Allow clans to have several owners (to avoid absentee owners), or allow succession after 30 days to the next active officer. Allow sticky notes in clan chat with expiration date (controlled by officers). For example, a materials list for the clan warehouse that all clan members can see. Allow clans to have multiple warehouses. Alert the nation when a new player starts playing.
  9. Pickles, rattlesnakes, and small frigates against ags and bucs.... that would be the type of battle the carebears want... SINK has 16 members now. 8 of them can command 120 or less, 3 can command 250, the rest 350, 650 and 2 at 1100. Saturday 5pm eastern isn't when most of them are online - 3 are in Europe, 1 in Brazil, then eastern and western USA/Canada, NZ and China. It is never going to be easy to get them on as the same time... It's a shame the Danes didn't schedule a PB in the middle of the Super bowl...
  10. please make it a gold one next time.... I hate capping nasty green ships. You should have mentioned it, I would have turned around in disgust. There are some alts. I am aware of a couple of them. They are not part of the clan so I don't see when they are on until they post in National chat. We are very scattered across time zones - so it's difficult to get many players on at the same time. Mainland Europe, the UK, Brazil, east and west coast USA/Canada, NZ and China. France is very much the United Nations of Nations.
  11. More players are surfacing for France - some new, some old faces. Linguine Mike and Train54 were both playing earlier today. More new players just joined the SINK clan - 14 of us now. Who wants to make the move to France on PvP2 and help balance the nations?
  12. 10, 11 and 12 over the last couple of days... small steps, but the French nation on PvP2 is growing. We need a few experienced players to come across from other nations, or from PvP1. Currently we only have a couple of people who have 1100 crew.
  13. It was nice to have a battle with fairly even numbers. In don't like empty PB's, nor do I like getting crushed in them. We'd talked before the battle about abandoning if 15+ GB/USA players showed up... fortunately we didn't need Plan B - run... We have a few people who had never been in a PB - so good experience for them. I think the GB/USA players were more interested in PvP, than trying to retain the port.
  14. Windward from last night ended up being 9 versus 8 and was over in 45 minutes. No ships sunk, but some good brawls. 4 French, 4 Swedes, 1 Dane. We had a mortar brig, 2-3 of the GB side headed in the direction of the MB, and we ended up with a nice brawl in one of the circles while protecting the MB. The game ended before anyone was sunk, but JG14-para would have sunk in minutes if the 1,000 score wasn't reached.
  15. Happy New Year to our Chinese players. Enjoy the Spring Festival holiday. The year of the Rooster.
  16. Currently, we have one player from Europe, one from New Zealand, one from Canada, and the rest in the USA.
  17. In a case like this, the number of players and regions for each nation would need to be balanced to make it competitive/fair. Consider Denmark starting with 1 port versus Spain with 1,000 ports....not easy for the Danes to get materials versus Spain with them all If each nation started with the same number of regions it would work. Either 4-5 each and the rest neutral, or split the map into equal numbers of regions for each nation. I don't think alliances would work in a case like this - the first two nations aligning would rule the map.
  18. I have a ships and materials on PvE in Mortimer you can have. I do not play PvE now - I have the 4 redeemable ships, 10 gold mods, 1000 silver, silver coins and the usual misc materials. Let me know if you are interested and we can arrange a time to transfer everything. I am on Eastern USA time - so 6 hours different from you I think.
  19. The key here is to get players joining nations that need them and have some semblance of balance between the nations. Based on this initial information, many of the nations are rarely going to be chosen by new players. When I started the game, I started in PvE and joined USA to get started (this was before the port reset) - it wasn't so much easy as boring. I switched to Pirate and played PvE until I understood the mechanics. After that I switched to PvP2 and selected Pirate as they showed hard - only to find massive chunks of the map were black... so I rerolled to French. The situation on each server is different on any given day - so the information new players get presented should be 1) server specific, and 2) based on current nation balancing needs.
  20. My thought would be to give new players small incentives to join nations needing them - something like a snow or privateer redeemable or 50,000 gold - something that makes a difference to a rookie, but cannot be exploited by alts as it's worthless to experienced players.
  21. If you give a rookie a snow or 50,000 gold, it's a big deal, give it to a alt of a top player and the money is insignificant and the ship is just clutter.
  22. When new players join the game for the first time, they are presented with the choice of nations to select from. At this point they are informed some nations are harder than others, and there are hints about who is fighting who. This information is inaccurate and very misleading - and really needs to change to reflect what is going on with each server. It is also a prime chance to help balance nations going forward with incentives for players to join nations needing new recruits. Back when I first joined, I selected the Pirates as I expected it to be hard - only to find the Pirates ruled most of the map - and I rerolled within a few weeks to France.
  23. I don't know if it is still the same, but when I first joined NA, I was presented with choices of who to join, and notes saying which was hard and which was easy... I joined Pirates as they were shown as hard - that was at a time when the pirates ruled a big chunk of the map - so I rerolled my character a few weeks later to France. If this is still the same, then it needs to change - and yes, give incentives to new players to join the nations that need new players. It could be a simple bonus, a couple of redeemable snows or some extra gold - just get players to join where it makes the most sense in balancing the game. Even block entry to the top 1-2 nations if their active membership is too high.
  24. I can't disagree... sadly, the mechanics allow this. So hopefully the devs will do something to either provide minimal resources for nations to keep those players playing, or have a defined end game to trigger a total reset and restart.
  25. In all likelihood by tomorrow morning, There will be a Dutch/GB/USA alliance with around 75% of the players controlling the majority of crafting regions and the majority of Silver. The Danes/French/Swedes/Spanish will have no effective crafting regions and very limited access to Silver and other crafting materials. With the USA/GB taking Ponce yesterday, yet another region with silver now controlled by the USA/GB alliance. If (really when) GB takes the Dane region today (scheduled by the GB at around 4am time for most of the Dane players - nice timing guys...) there wont' be a single decent crafting region left for the Danes/Swedes/French/Spanish. I am all for contesting regions and promoting PB's / PvP. But at the moment, not only do the Dutch/USA/GB have the numbers, but they can craft better ships all loaded out with gold mods. I know there is a planned discussion this Sunday. I would like to see a basic agreement or framework on allowing each nation a select number of 'safe haven' ports containing at least 1 'good' crafting region - and access to some of the scarce resources - silver in particular.
