  1. I think something that would increase the emotional attachment between the player and his ship is if the Officers were more than just upgrades to a ship. Make them customizable - Let the player change the name. - Let the player change the portrait. - Have a promotion system of some kind. - Have them able to die.
  2. I think once they add Officers I should be able to assign one and a few crew to take her to the port of my choice. Like in Horation Horblower. Basically it would be like the companion missions in STO & SWTOR.
  3. A lot of games just use a Bonus/Penalty to xp to "encourage" players to switch form or to particular factions.
  4. Maybe from playing PotBS but it was my expectation that in Port Battles it would be all SOL's. One of the things that I hated about PotBS that the PB's were all 3rd Rates because the 1sts were so expensive that players just used them for grinding fleets. I think a 25v25 battle of first rates sounds pretty awesome. At the same time, that fleet of 25 slow moving SOLs sound pretty vulnerable in the open world to a screening fleet , so I think this is the balance.
  5. I like the idea in concept. Like Heroes & Generals.
  6. Generals move troop icons around on the Campaign Map with 1990's graphics. Players only appear in the combat instances. Huge difference in server load. This is the problem. If the server population doesn't pick up the game is total failure. The Devs must have full confidence that the game pop will rebound as they put in more polished game systems. Asking people to switch and then switch again in 6 months would be gamebreaking.
  7. You also some things to give the officers a level of emotional attachment to the characters. Maybe character could choose officer portrait to be dispayed? Maybe character could name the officer? Maybe officers should have the chance of getting killed so you have to replace them?
  8. You get two trims anyway. Not sure why random is an option, other than just for player enjoyment.
  9. It literally died on me. I got that Nvidea bug where you are stuck on the Loading Game Screen when trying to get into an actual battle. It hasn't worked in 4 months.
  10. Heroes & Generals has a lot of the same population issues the Naval Action has. If our map unlocked the way theirs does, I think it result in fewer uncontested port battles. If you attack and capture Port A you can then attack Port B or Port B/C or Port B/C/D depending on the importance of the port. Ports that branch off to multiple ports should be those with great strategic importance. Also, if Port A is captured then enemy will know that the attack be at 1 to 3 other ports. PROS: Defenders better able to guess where the attack will come, and defend. CONS: Limits player choice in regards to strategy.
  11. The problem with that would be that Production Building are tied to Labor Hours. Even if you had 25 buildings, you would only be able to get resources out of 5 or so of them on a given day. They would have to add Production Hours, and it would be tied to each building rather than the character.
  12. This drove me nuts in PotBS too. Please maek this change. Also, at the start of battles it would be great to open your ports and "run out the guns".
  13. So I am having a problem with connecting once I get on the Character Selection Screen. After selecting enter, the game just hangs. If I select Exit I get a Client Crash. I have restarted. verifed intergrity on steam etc... Steps to Reproduce 1. This occured after the Steam update last night. 2. I was able to log on the first time this morning normally, but my game froze. 3. On further attempts to log on I got a hang on the Character Select Screen 4. After about 5 minutes I was returned to the Server Select Screen
  14. Major patch on a Thursday or Friday? This seems like something they should be doing on a Tuesday or Wednesday.
  15. As we continue to grow , we were, thanks to the financial genius of Gunny Hathcock, able to purchase the flag for St Pierre. We now have several of us able to fight in Deep Water Port Battles, with more leveling to be able to participate. We are recruiting both English and French speaking players. New players encouraged to join. Also now with Trincs, for extra wholesome goodness.
  16. I think you really need an ingame system for this. Maybe you can only check for bounties when you are in port? To be awarded you would have to accept it in port to receive it.
  17. What about like in Star Wars Galaxies where one player could put a bounty on another?
  18. I think the solution is more they need to put in mechanics to favor voluntary rebalancing of the population, Say when the US took New Orleans it would have taken France 6 hours of real time to sail up there to defend it, after we had fought 2 other portbattles and expended our teleports.
  19. I might not be understanding, but the purpose is to provide motivation for players to switch or join underpopulated factions.
  20. That's true, but securing all the town's resources for one faction is worth much more than that. So there is still a reward, it's just more like investment dividends, rather than a lottery jackpot. Yeah but they aren't really exploiting, it's just that the reward mechanic is a little exploit. And as I was saying above, controlling the resources of a port is a HUGE benefit.
