Open world behavior and chat bans

Recommended Posts

I must say that many players in Denmark have a really painful reaction to cyriilic letters in the chat. Constant insults towards those who don't speak english are common. I guess these individuals have never seen the french or spanish national chats.

Hmm i was beting it was the other way around, that your russian overlords are screaming at everybody not speaking russian. :D

handling language issues in the forums is already ridiculous and is going to be impossible after EA. Also many EA players are not going to come here to read rules and are probably not going to read any "click to agree" rules you put in the game.

We are going to have to tolerate bad words until language rules are directly in game and dealt with entirely in game.

There's no need to read the rules here. If you've ever read one set of rules, you've read them all. The behavior that gets you banned here will get you banned in all online games (except World of Tanks).

So consequences for spamming dick ascii in help chat should be of no surprise to anyone (except World of Tanks players)

Forgive me for my ignorance on this, but is there any sort of indicator that the "report" button went through? Used it for the first time today for very World of Tanks'-like abuse from a player toward others, but nothing visual occurred beside the option leaving after clicking it. I assumed the option to paste the entire chat log would pop up, or at least a request for a description. For fear of spamming reports, figured I'd check here first.

The rules for the game (these apply to both forums and the game itself):

http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/2346-forum-and-sea-trials-rules/

More specific rules about profanity and how you may address other players are here:

http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/3722-profanity-usage-in-game/

----

In short, if you wouldn't stand up and say to your mother's face, don't say it to others in game.

A few examples:

"The weather is shitty."  Ok.

"I finally killed that 74! Fuck yeah!" Ok.

"That asshole stole my ship."  NOT Ok

"Those guys are shitbags." NOT Ok.

"Fuck u" NOT Ok

"Fuck this shit, I hate these shitty controls, fuck it."  NOT Ok - Be moderate in your use of profanity.

All mods are volunteers that clear up **** in chat for free. They might make a mistake here and there which is ok because they don't know if the person who abused another player in chat was a victim or an offender. They follow the rules.

If mods are approaching you stay calm and change your behavior.

We will add special color to mods in game so you can easily ID them.

We also plan to increase the number of mods in game (especially on new servers) and will recruit community members who help us in answering on steam and game-labs forums and in game chat.

Hah, I personally would not. ;)

I was providing a few examples of how the rules work. My comment regarding mothers was meant for the direct address - that is, something I'd say to her face if we were having a disagreement. It's never ok in game to address another Captain with profanity/obscenity.

I would say, a naval captain stealing boardings from another captain dont  even earn the title captain. To me they are still scum of the seas. Even pirates are better, those you can at least fight back.

Use the ingame function report. To do this Right click on the players name, a dialog window with several buttons will appear. Press the button Report. Do this on chatlines which is breaking one of the rules presented on this link http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/2346-forum-and-sea-trials-rules/

There needs to be some form of warning before chat bans take place. Its a major source of fun in the game, and to be shamed in such a way as to not speak is quite the offensive retort. If a mod is about to ban someone the person they are about to ban should be warned before the ban action takes place. Not saying it happens often, but mods can be quite biased and act in the favor of their friends rather than the community.

So admins don't have to follow the rules? They can skip the warnings and ban people for a week at a time then argue with players in nation chat about it? Then justify it saying people couldn't swear

discussions of moderation are not allowed. If you feel there was an unfair ban send a pm to admins or mods.

bans if issued are in 99% of cases are proper.

In your case you were not affected by the bans so there is no reason to complain
