Hey guys.

So as a dutch guy I'd of course like to see some dutch glory time ships. Well then what's the situation on them?

- Has the Zeven Provinciën already been suggested?                  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_ship_De_Zeven_Provinci%C3%ABn_(1665)

- Has the Gouden Leeuw already been suggested?                     http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_ship_Gouden_Leeuw

- Has the Eendracht already been suggested?                             http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_ship_Eendracht_(1655)

- Has the Brederode already been suggested?                            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_ship_Gouden_Leeuw

- Has the Hollandia already been suggested?                              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollandia_(ship)

- I am aware that the Delft, the Amsterdam and the Hercules have been suggested.

- The yacht was apperantly dutch(which I like :) ).

Anything else that I missed? Please say so and suggest more!

That said, that early 1600's ship might have a hard time of it. :)

I wouldn't be averse to giving them a buff to allow them into the game. They don't have to be outclassed just because they are older. Otherwise no one will sail anything from before 1800.

They don't really need a buff in stats, otherwise there's no "reason" to buy a newer ship.  How about the older ships are Cheaper, and easier to replace?

Remember, in the future, losing a ship is going to hurt.  ;)

players always try to buy best, or at least from first tree top ships. look on potbs where you could by Tigre mc, for example, for cents and sail it. Still very small minority uses option to buy cheap ship

First of all welcome to the Naval Action forums, "makker"! You can suggest all you want, but without technical drawings and data the developers cannot do very much. :D A few Dutch paintings ain't gonna cut it.

Here's a list of all (known) ships of war of the Dutch Republic:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ships_of_the_line_of_the_Dutch_Republic

Feel free to search for technical drawings of any of them!

One not mentioned in that list, maybe because it was never built, is the Aurora, a 32-gun frigate.

The Dutch famous "Fluyt" or flute has also been offered. Along with the West-Indies ship the "Unity", a trading brig.

Unfortunately, the brunt of NA seems to be set when our golden age was pretty much over. It'd be kinda weird to see mid 17th century ships sailing next to early 19th century stuff. Although it breaks me Dutch heart a little bit to not be able to go all period correct De Ruyter on the English bum-bums, there will still be an excellent place for Dutch ships in the game.

I'm thinking a lot of cool small ships, smaller and less draughty lineships (4th rate like late 18th cent. Delft) and ofc the merchant navy.

Some dutch ships for you guys

The-Dutch-Fleet-Under-Sail-Willem-Van-De

At the right is the Witte Olifant(built 1666) easily recognizable by a white elephant on her stern. Further right is theVrijheid (the Freedom, built 1651, blown up in action 1676). To the left of the Witte Olifant is the Zeelandia with the coat of arms of Zeelandia on her stern. The center of the painting is occupied by the Gouden Leeuw (built 1666), with the image of a rampant golden lion on her tafferel. In the left foreground is the Huis Tijdverdrijf. In the left background the Zeven Provincien is seen. Her stern is decorated with the coat of arms of the seven Provinces of the Republic.

There are plenty of Dutch ship plans out there, and those plans tend to be really good ones too (model kits are often better than the actual ship blueprints).  I have prints for 13 Dutch ships, from giant East Indiaman, to small 4-gun yacht.

However, I agree that Dutch ships from the 1600's should not be fighting British and French ships from 1800.  It just feels wrong.

That year spread that has been mentioned is probably a bit too wide to make sense.  I think sticking to ships from about 1750 to 1830 or so is a better idea.

I personally just like the look of the dutch ships of around 1650. I mean look at the beautiful bow's, very long and high (no that's not what she said).

While the ships of 1750 to 1800 are short and steep. You can also see that the dutch ships tend to go up at the stern, which I think is nice as well :).

Where as those later ships are just flat and straight.

the Gouden Leeuw is a worthy oponent for any ship that came later,

Class & type: 80-82-gun ship of the line Length: 165 ft (50 m) Beam: 40 ft (12 m) Depth of hold: 15 ft (4.6 m) Propulsion: Sails Sail plan: Full rigged ship Armament: 80-82-guns:
  • Lower deck: 28 guns
  • Upper deck: 28 guns
  • Quarterdeck, Forecastle & Poop deck: 26 guns

it was broken up in 1686, but i would love to play this ship

The dutch didnt need any plans the major thing the dutch ships are from the golden age. We had newer ships of the line as well but our treu power lay earlier. The seven provincien is build a couple times technical drawings are hard to be found. I think mist where lost during the wars the soanis occupation and the wars vs the britisch.

I'm not sure why I am providing this as it has been made very clear in the previous disussions I have been involved in on this site that this era won't be portrayed in the game to my great dissappointment. I guess its because I have to share with others that love Dutch ships as much as I do....

You need plans of Zeven Provencien? Well I've compiled the most comprohensive sets of images and plans for her anywhere else on the web. Model Ships sites use my ship picture albums regularly.

Here she is: https://www.flickr.com/photos/49225014@N05/sets/72157624964465779/

Her rigging: https://www.flickr.com/photos/49225014@N05/sets/72157632010415614/

Her guns and gun port detail sets: https://www.flickr.com/photos/49225014@N05/sets/72157632012093110/

Kris Wood was working on the most detailed 3D model available of for inclusion in GOF ERAs and it was 95 percent complete. When PA! banned me work stopped. I am attempting to finish the model myself.

I do have another version that was aquired by friends of mine to whom I had provided all of this same documentation for that build. She is not as detailed but I have modified her myself and skinned her. The skin isn't totally accurate but she is pretty nice. I would say my game mod has more Golden Age ships and more varieties of Dutch ships than any other PC game out there period: buccaneersreef.com

Don't just stand there, create a thread and officialy suggest it! :D

I don't really feel comfortable creating a thread here about it. Sorry. They have made it very appearent that they aren't interested in this era and don't plan to portray it. The crowd here seems very Napoleonic and I am not going to try to twist anyone's arm. I already got banned elsewhere for trying to influence development - although the majority of that community voted in favor of the 17th/early 18th century era but was vetoed by the admins.

I already have my own little niche website dedicated to this time and a game mod that portrays it quite well that I'm continuing development on - which I shared a few posts back. I am just frustrated seeing so many people here spinning their wheels in so many places asking the devs to give you this era and these types of ships, when its clear they are focusing on the circa 1800 timeframe.

I was simply sharing my vast resources to others that love Dutch ships and the Dutch Golden Age. Plus folks were asking for models of the Zeven Provincien and plans. So I provided them.

The whole reason I've contributed here recently was to get a feel for the direction things were going here. I've made my assessment - and will now exit stage left.  MK

i like the earlier ship designs alot more as well. But maybe the extra time it would take to model the older style ships (high stern, bow, alot of artistic designs all over the ship) influenced the napoleon more aerodynamic ships.

I don't think the devs have said they are not interested in the earlier time period. Originally they stated the ship line-up as 16th Century to the end of Napoleonic Wars.

It is probably due to the fact that the crowd here is for a large part British and American that they seem to be focusing on the Napoleonic area at the moment. The US Navy was almost none existent before that time and the British were at their peak.

The Dutch had some beautiful ships so I hope they will include some earlier ships as well. Also from countries like Portugal.
