They were useful when commands were enabled - really helping Captains who did not want to run. But some clever guys started giving bots stop command and farmed them. After this was disabled they became useless and did not provide any protection at all (sometimes firing through your sails for example)

Basically any good feature in a multiplayer game will be abused unfortunately :( we either have to close eyes on them or disable.

True that. We are in early access and many players forgot that they are all testers and they should report those things and not exploit like there is no tomorrow.

You still cannot attack in capital waters - what are you talking about?

I saw once a big big fight with 14 danes right in front of port royal. over 3000 br vs 1700 of brits. I know the brits attacked but for me it's a big issue that they can sail into "protected areas". They can easily pulled into fight with alt accounts and gank all the players in front of the port. But main thing is you can't leave the protected area now. Those players are there and the moment you leave the protected area they will just gang jump on you. And no reinforcments which could help while other players try to reach this battle. Now you are on your own plus all the other poor devils who try to help.

Seems the hardcore scurvy ridden "reality" crowd win again. Good luck maintaining any semblance of a player base if you continuously listen to this one group, introduce content before this game is a wasteland. So many people need to open their eyes and see that this game is on its way to the dustbin if they keep wanting the "hardcore" only experience. The game is tremendously boring with occasional moments of excitement i.e pvp not ganking. Keep killing any content that assist players with that grind and you will drive them away. Delusional if you think the majority of players enjoy sailing 30 mins for a mission, absolutely delusional and anyone telling you otherwise is lying or a masochist.

You have a couple of shining moments buried in there, but none relates to what we have or had. The Content is indeed one of them but while at a PvP server it is expected that at least two thirds of the content will be related to the Action part of the Navy.

Second shining moment is stepping up the "hardcore" label upon players that play Naval Action only for the Action part. Personally I must say thanks to this in a very ironic manner. It means the Action part was indeed lacking.

Now onto the rest.

Having only 1 out of 7 players in the forum really worried about the combat part is really disturbing. We have more post relating to economy and crafting than we have to the very core of the game - combat, chasing prey, skirmishes with enemy flotillas, conquest fleets clashing and finally the dreaded port battles mechanics.

As I see only the reinforcements got removed. The AI fleets are still out there.

Ganking is not that common at all to make it a huge problem, plus for each corsair group in a nation there is also a hunt group trying to find them and give a fight.

It is proper.

To be fair, reinforcements were able to stop only the reaaaaly bad players from ganking in enemy waters... just slip past them, sink your prey, be merry.

They do help sometimes, or at least turn an easy win into something a little more dangerous.

But yeah, we jumped people all the time inside their reinforcement zones. They can't even call reinforcements unless you outweigh them 2:1 by BR and after that it's usually just a case of maneuvering through their clumsy NPCs to sink them anyway.

I wonder if they're really even worth putting back in. They mostly just created a false sense of security. The real way to avoid ganks has always been defensive tagging and just not sailing slow ships (and keeping your eyes open in general).

Different symbols for closed vs. open battles vs. missions?

If closed battles become visible, the symbol should be something subtle like a cloud of gunpowder smoke or some flotsam on the water.

Anything to communicate that fact that outside of the time-accelerated OW travel map, the battle is not closed but over. You arrived hours after its conclusion.

Someone suggested a "debris" icon or similar a while ago. Sure :) would be nice.

what he means is that they will simply wait outside the capital waters (because they are very small) and wait for people to try to go to another trading port to haul their goods. Then, they will gank them where before they may have been protected by reinforcements).

We've been doing that anyway, even with reinforcements. We've actually been attacking traders with Pickles and Privateers. Between those two types, they can catch both upwind and downwind traders.

And when they call reinforcements, all they get is a bunch of Pickles and Privateers.

If taking out reinforcements does anything, it's changing people's perceptions.

The reality is that ganking has been very easy this whole time (when done to people who don't understand the game very well or were not prepared or just got lazy).

Just curious how long we are going to wait for large PvE fleets to be added in, I really enjoyed grinding against reinforcement fleets even though it was very gamey. I hope that we get to see some kickass open world AI fleets to attack again with some uncapturable 1st and 2nd rates. I think everyone can agree in having that kind of PvE content in the game.

Sure thing. And make them actually slightly more aggressive than the placid sheep they are in the OW. Just slightly.

Yep. The AI reinforcements are pretty useless for scaring off pirates. Players sailing traders need human escorts to execute a defensive tag, so the trader can escape.

What I've found is a lot of escorts don't want to fight. If you're sailing at them, they decide they're not prepared for PvP and book it out as fast as thry can.

Look at it in a positive note, you have just created another job for us players. Escorting you ask a fee to escort a trader to a certain point. Pay a little in advance and at the end the rest. Ofcourse if people keep scamming they will be named and shamed? :)

The ganking has just began. 2 pirates right in front of port royal jumping on everything that comes out of the protected area.

But thanks for participating with your very useful comment. Thank you very much.

You are serious ? Crying about 2 poor pirates ? lol

Dont know traders, but medium-level (cerberus range) will be a  hard to level off out of "grinder groups" playing solo or in small group ...

A pair of trinco against a cerberus is only cool battle for one side... nothing wrong  if the cerb was looking for trouble , but if you are trying to mission up it was good knowing  that in "home waters" with some IA  you  will probably be able to fight back and gain XP/gold for more than make the loss time/ship

it wuold be nice if they opened up the purchase of fleets to those that didn't know you couldn't buy them after the low level.. I have limited time to play and I dont always get on when my squadron mates are. I could really on reinforcements to help me move ships and traders...I never knew there was a level limit on the fleet option. can this be removed so I can purchase some cutters ect to sail with me now.

I think they repair damaged but not broken. Super painfull when you have to chase a consti that's running downwind with a broken rudder.

I hit a 3rd rate in the rudder. It did not repair the rudder. We sunk the other, then I chased the third rate for 15 minutes, putting ball into its stern. Eventually, I had "module x1" as a reported hit at the top, but no new module lighted up. THEN the 3rd rate repaired the rudder

apparently the threshold for "can't turn" is higher than the threshold for "repair"...

That job already existed, not very many people did it before and not many will not do it now.

The human escorts need to be hired by the trader as his escort. If he has to take on an impossible mission to save the trader who hired him, so be it. That's his job.

Fir built Trinco with exceptional speed rig and copper plating (those both can be crafted so will be very easily available in a week or two when a bunch of powercrafters hit 50) is impossible to catch with "normal" ships.

It's Triton Interceptor Frigate all over again.

Have fun catching Trincos dude. They sail away and the moment you sail back to port royal they turn around and gank again. And the first poor devil who leaves the area of port royal gets ganked and no chance to help him.

Reno catch-up squad, go around, cut them off.

Of course they come back if you let them...
