  1. I found this drawing of the bow of De Beschermer, "the Protector". But judging from the port hole configuration it cannot be from either the 1783 or 1735 ships:
  2. That one looks different from the 1790 drawing (built in Harlingen from 1769 to 1770), in which it is said to have 24 guns:
  3. Trying to stay within limits as much as possible in order to be able to possibly pay a contribution and see it in game. No guarantees of course
  4. Thanks, guys Boyancy is a problem the devs have to deal with, not me. I just build it like it is But the big low belly are generally a dead giveaway that the ship is shallow draft. Here's some more detail on the stern windows:
  5. With the lack of Dutch ships in the game, I decided to attempt one myself that could potentially be useful. Don't expect wonders (in terms of speed and pretty renders) coming from me, it's all hobby work, but I'll try my best at it I'm working off of this scan of the ships Leeuwenhorst (named after an area in the former province of Holland, now Zuid Holland) and Edam (named after a small fishing village). There's little I could find about these ships, so this drawing is all I can work from. I chose to make this ship, because for one the size (4th rate) and secondly the typical Dutch stern that was apparently common design pre-Batavian Republic (when France conquered the Dutch republic in 1795). Similar designs can be found on the 3rd rate Stadt En Lande, and the frigate Eendracht, for example. Here's a first concept:
  6. Haha, that is quite interesting indeed. The stern could easily be mistaken for the bow
  7. Thanks, Raymond! I'm finalizing it and then to the devs for further assessment. Maybe it will make it into the game one day. But not having my hopes up for this one
  8. here's most of the pages of the book Dutch Warships in the Age of Sail: https://books.google.nl/books?id=i-WZBgAAQBAJ&pg=PA286&lpg=PA286&source=bl&ots=XCviqDfcDH&sig=v-L5q6YDnurmZ3RFjtP5Wrgxp_E&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiZuJWju8bLAhWHXhQKHc4xCQUQ6AEIMDAE#v=onepage&q&f=false
  9. The database is nice, but the national archive site I just linked in the post before you
  10. For some high-res scans of the ships in this thread you can find at: http://www.gahetna.nl/collectie/archief/ead/index/eadid/4.MST/open/c01:0.#c01:0.c02:0.
  11. I found it here. More stuff to be found in there if you wanna go through the whole thread
  12. Not too sure about the botter, but as far as I can find info about it, it's mainly designed and built in the (late) 19th century. Besides, I have other plans for my next ship
  13. Wait, that thing has a rudder on the front as well as the rear? Interesting concept
  14. Nice work, Freddy! Could you give me a few pointers on how to make a ship 'dev-ready'? Even though it may not be the most desirable ship, I'd like to finish my yacht, so I could maybe move on to a bigger and more desirable ship. I work in Blender though
  15. Technically, yes. Albeit not actively at the moment
  16. I had a somewhat similar experience. It didn't turn out so well for the greedy snow either, who tried boarding the trader's brig in front of me. His boarding got interrupted and soon after he capsized his own snow against the trader. I could proceed as normal
  17. I like it Wonder how these ideas are compatible with what the devs have in the works.
  18. As I said before in the thread about progression, I feel there should be reputation system that allows players to move to another nation like that.
  19. I have no real problem distinguishing the ports and their colours. However I do see how close they are and so how difficult they could be for someone to distinguish. Nation slags would be easier to see. However I think you'll have to wait to see any graphical changes to the map after most of the core mechanics would be in the game.
  20. Not sure if this is interesting to sail in a game like this, but still funny enough to not leave it unmentioned Source: Jotika Ltd Front (on a swivel): 24 pd long cannon Stern: two 12 pd carronades
