  1. This seems to be a popular topic. BR screen, is good to have. I have posted multiple times about this even myself. Shorty again.... A gank team hits a target. Target uses Team Speak and National chat to rally his friends to the location. His friends teleport to the nearest outpost and sail to the location, to wait the gank fleet. So this whole scenario is stupid, and unrealistic. BR Screen is a very good thing to have, it is protecting from teleport gank. And indeed, teleport gank is even worse exploit than waiting in BR screen.
  2. As there are sometimes small conversations about people speaking in their native language... Maybe you can add 4 channels more. 1. Russia 2. German 3. France 4. Spain I was thinking that as you have your chat server and client already done, I assume it would not be a big thing to add few channels more? Probably could not harm either. Maybe even 5. International
  3. It will run in the same combat screen as the rest, so an rts running in that small space, calculating all incoming cannon balls, etc. I think will be impossible. I think 1st thing is, that we fire the grappling hooks, and we have to be side-by-side with the target. Then I think it would be ok that the boarding axes are used to cut the ropes, if you want to disengage, and muskets to shoot the axemen. So if you have good axemen and the other person does not have muskets -> End result, the boarding attempt fails. Defender perk to make your axemen even more efficient. You can also shoot the deckguns I suppose. There could be some animation or indicator, that the enemy is about to throw the hooks. If the hooks are not connected well, or speed difference is too big, or not enough hooks are connected, hooks may break. You have X amount of hooks on board per battle. Yes you have to hit the hooks "well", if you throw to the side, the hooks do nothing, and cooldown to wait that the men drag the hooks back in the ship. When you have the hooks connected, you win the battle to pull the ship to your side, so that those are side-by-side, not so that there is a Santisima between the ships and boarding is going on. Or that you move behind the enemy vessel, and then suddenly end in boarding situation. After this it is possible to use your marines to actually board the enemy vessel. But if you do this, you are not going to throw grenades there, to kill your own marines. I think that 3d representation would not work. Maybe some kind of 2d view from the top of the ships, and maybe even from every deck. This view would be drawn over the 3d scene, as the current boarding is. And then a minigame running 2d, and the upgrades there are should provide things for this minigame. Maybe not even animation, maybe just sectors where your men move or attack, or something similar. Not strongly against animations, but maybe sectors would actually work better in this case. Then make sure that you have tactical option. Every ships should have different layout, as those have, and maybe some boarding upgrades are better for some ships and worst for other. Then you have to take over the sip. But I suppose devs shall invent the rules, but definitely tactical game, where skill maters the most. Skill would be more like tactical understanding than fps. Well, you can imagine probably the rest. edit. Oh yes. And if cannon balls hit the ship -> You map the hit from the 3d space to this 2d paper doll model, and cause the damage as those would on this 2d map. Maybe if there are sectors, and when the cannon balls hit a sector, men from both side, who are in this sector may suffer casualties. edit2. Absolute no for FPS.
  4. On PvE server yes, but not on PvP server edit.. Maybe players could buy defense fleets for a port or something similar. This should be something that you buy, and then it takes X time after it has been destroyed, before you can buy it again. Players could invest in port defense. Maybe 0 towers, but players can build 1-4 towers to defend a port.
  5. I agree that it is good to have a good combat mechanism, nothing bad in that. I agree that #2 is mandatory, and there is a high change that it makes combat even more interesting. So time well spent here. If they start making topics how to fix shitty boarding mechanism, I would be happy to read from that. This is also a mandatory thing if asked from me. Like 1000x more important than the brutality that goes in testing. The brutal crew mechanism? It sounds so brutal, that I do not think it even needs testing. I still agree that crew losses could be higher, but the idea of every penetration to kill a man, that is a radical change. So maybe directly test something that will increases crew losses but not to totally overshoot. What are we going to do with the grapes after this goes online?
  6. Well, you would not be teleporting anything. You would be leaving stuff in a port if you have an out post there, for other player to redeem it later. Just to cut down waiting times, a convenience feature but not something urgent.
  7. BR rating would be better than ~more or less the same ships, or the same. I think it would be nice addition to the tournament that the teams think the best possible setup and tactic for it. Creates a bit more depth, and much more fun to watch different kind of setups. 4th rates have only 2 options, so I suppose that would be a bit dull to watch the same ships. There are plenty of 5th and also 6th rates, so maybe an option for 4th rate should be open but not mandatory. 550br or 500br maybe?
  8. A mechanism to exchanging stuff, so that the 2 persons does not have to be at the same port at the same time. Often you want to trade something in port X -> "I am in Ile-a-Vache now." .. "Give me Y minutes, I am sailing there atm". Y minutes is normally something between 2-20. And as we already wait pretty often in NA, I think some kind of mechanism to solve this would be nice. For example: Out post provides a box, space 1-3. You can leave stuff in your box, and name a player and a price to get the content. I have been definitely thinking more than once, that if I just could leave this item in this port, and say for my friends that lets go sailing. Instead all are waiting that 15 minutes that the guy arrives. So not the most important feature I agree, but maybe a convenience upgrade.
  9. I like #1 and #2. Especially I really like the #2. It can be that the #1 should be for all, but with a perk you get a bigger radius. #3, I kinda like, but I also do hate it... Maybe 2 to stern or 4-5 to side, is overkill. The 1st hit and 2nd will define already the battle, as the other person will have issues with the crew after that. This system wont allow even 1 mistake, and makes prepared perk to be pretty much mandatory. I like skill based games, but this is next to fps game. Both will camp to get a good hit, they sail and sail, just to get a good one. Remember that the ships are also more maneuverable in the game. So as brutal combat as suggested, probably wont work. There is a lot more stern hits in the game, than would be irl, well, at least I have understood so. You could increase casualties still, so that it gets harder and harder, slowly but faster than now, but not with 4 broadsides. This way the players would need to learn to manage their ship with low crew as well. Atm. it goes lower and will affect to the handling, but maybe it could affect even more. Even fights could end situation where it really gets hard, and well hit broadsides will matter more and more. I liked the damage model that was realistic, and most balls did not penetrate etc. Because in this case you really had to try to get good broadsides. Most people did not like it, and I think the current system is ok as well. So this new crew suggestion is hardcore, maybe a bit too much indeed. Also less men you have on board, smaller is the change to hit a crew member. Increase the casualties X%, and then test it. Right now I think "Crew Space" is mostly not as good as "Build Strength". If the combat gets more lethal, CS will get better and better. CS maybe could be like 6-9% with the current system, 5 is maybe not enough to make it equal with the BS. If the battles will end in the future before the sides are off, CS will be a lot better than it is atm. Also you may have to rebalance the crew/medkits for this one. I would not go forward with #3, high change that it wont work. Increasing casualties, a decent, reasonable amount, that probably would be ok. edit. Read later about the shocked men. This might work better than just pure kills. Needs also rebalancing for cannons. Long cannons will be mandatory after #3. I see no go for #3, absolutely too brutal and game changing. I believe PvE needs rebalancing after this.
  10. In the grim darkness of the age of sail.. There was no phones or messaging system, if not on visual range. It is unrealistic that you write in nation or clan chat to ask for help. So we do not need TP ganking system at all, BR Screen is a very nice thing to have, keeps the battles more realistic. It is very good as it is at the moment, nothing has to be changed.
  11. I do not know, but try with a friend or max 2. With a fleet of 2-3 you end up to find fleets of 1-4, and there is a high change that they do not just run. 5 is already so big fleet that I believe it might be hard to find PvP from enemy waters. You might find PvP from your own waters with 5, as people tend to go in enemy waters in bigger fleets. You may soon notice that people use the Coward perk for other things as well, than just to escape unfair fights -> They will escape the fair ones as well -> The perk is a bit OP.
  12. Well the reason why they would have the Coward perk is that they can escape easier -> Be more efficient gankers. And as they are gankers, they probably would skip a fair fight. Coward is simply a bit too good atm., and it is too good for all, even for the gankers.
  13. There is a fleet of gankers and they all have the Coward perk. Why would gankers have the perk? Could you imagine a reason for that?
  14. Said in some other thread 4/3 or 4/2... 3 minutes without perk and 2 minutes with perk. Could work as well, or at least be better than 1 minute.
  15. The thread seems to straggle a bit... Crew is ok, just make sure that the people are able to do PvE. For many it is the place to learn the ropes, and as in other mmo games, it is also the place to level. In NA you do not really need to level up to cap, but I am sure many will do it anyway. I hope you understand btw. that the crew is only an additional penalty for the losing side. So the new players, they are the ones suffering from this. Also in constant PvE, someone wants to get the next rank, these are the guys suffering from the crew as well, probably most. The players who have max rank and they know the ropes -> They could not care less if there is a crew to take care, because they do not lose them in numbers that it would be meaningful. I think there are 3 kind of PvP in this game. 1. Capturing the traders 2. Port Battles 3. OW PvP, just because The first 2 are the most important, and probably should have no AI fleets, at least not on PvP servers. Traders with AI escorts, just does not fit in a PvP game that has pirates, or the economy that NA has atm. I understand perfectly why Pagan Pete is against those. Also the economy is player driven, so it is an important area in the game. The idea that you cannot craft ships without a trader transferring goods, this is a good one. It creates interesting PvP scenario, and economy as well. Ruining that with the fleets, is probably not the best idea. Deliveries between Free Towns, I understand that this would need server resources, if every time you deliver, an AI fleet is sent to actually do the delivery. Still, it is slightly breaking the scenario where you actually have to transport goods to craft. So I suppose, there should not be magic deliveries at all, or then there should be AI traders. Port Battles, I think you will have a patch for this, which probably will fix the issues people have pointed out. It is rather obvious that there should not be AI fleets here, right? The same way the traders should not have AI fleets, right? OW PvP, this is for psychos who just want to sink and kill people, and for escorts, and for screens defending the port. If we want to hazzle the AI fleets on PvP servers, I suppose this would be it. I admit that this is the most fun for me, and am not really interested to shoot AI fleets, but there is another reason why I think this could be ok... One player with 2 AI fleet ships + another with a trader -> 3 combat ships + 1 trader, and you need just 1 friend to do that. For escort "missions", it can be hard to find people, so I think this could make sense.
  16. I should not complain I know... But would have wanted the Santa Cecilia instead.
  17. Masts were like toothpicks at some point. You did not have bouncing balls, you just had to get a clean shot. People had hard time understanding that.

  19. Any information about the situation would be appreciated.
  20. Wed like to see and end to the boarding mini-game, AND the perks. I agree that the boarding mini-game is broken. I think the perk like defender is broken as well, but as long as the mini-game is that broken, the defender is a good perk to have. It just makes the guys to work a bit. Not just ram with the gold marines. Other perks are a bit out of balance, and definitely needs refining. Like Coward makes escaping way too easy. Pirate & Pirate Hunter perks are not as good as Master perks, and are even 1 point more expensive. But I suppose that would be own subject, and am sure they will fix these anyway. Maybe the players have to press a button, to throw the grappling hooks from one broadside. If there is too much speed, it can be that the hooks break. Or if you do not hit well, you have to wait that they roll the hooks back on board before you can throw those again. Maybe to have a specific amount of grappling hooks with you. Maybe you just hit with 1 hook, and it will break. If you get a hit with the hooks, the enemy starts to cut the ropes. With boarding axes you do that faster. With muskets the other player can counter the rope cutters. etc. But indeed, we need way better boarding mechanism. We want to force groups to share their loot amongst all captains AND CREW in a group. This is something that could be working already. The money we get from what ever atm., is already divided between the crew. Or is it? We want to see the END of pyrates as a nation. No ports or port battlesI agree. Raiding would be nice to have, BUT, even without raiding would be better than what we have atm. We want Amnesty offered for pyrates, so men who joined because their nations got crushed, can go back home.I agree. Just have some long cooldown, like a month or something similar. We want pyrates to have to capture their ships, above 7th rate.I kinda like the idea, but... There are 25 vs 25 port battles, that are all 1st rates. It can be that I did not listen enough on my history classes, but I think there was never 25 vs 25 battles of 1st rates in real life? So the waters are filled with more and with bigger ships than in real life, if I have understood this correctly. I think that pirates should not follow exactly what was historical, and one reason would be that they will be facing far numerous enemy. But I would be personally ok if Pirate Frigate would be the biggest ship the pirates can craft. Simplest implementation would be to add 1 new level of shipyards. 1 are the small ships, 2 ends to Pirate Frigate, and 3 and 4 will cover the rest. Then just limit pirates to shipyard levels 1 and 2. We want deadly storms. simple to get out of, but makes it more immersive.I would like that there are even bigger storms than what we have atm. and that the weather outside defines the weather in the battle. I would not mind if the storms in OW would break your ship, or it would take damage from that, even to sink you. I still do not see this as a mandatory feature, it is ok, but nothing important. Reason why I see it could be useful is a different one... It could be a fix to AFK fishermen doing circles in the middle of the sea 24/7. I believe there could be other fixes to that one as well, but could do the job as well. We want to END ai fleets.PvP server should not have the fleets. PvE can have those. If on PvP servers, I think the traders should not be able to get the fleets. On PvP, if you have a treasure galleon, find players to escort you. AI fleets could actually attack the players, on PvE, but not on PvP. What I have fought against other players with AI ships, the AI ships are really not that good atm. That is why, maybe, it would be ok to have those, but not with the traders. Make Declarations of War controlled by the game, not individuals. This is mandatory. When players are hammering one nation to oblivion, they wont stop there. Needs someone who checks that.. Ok, nation A has suffered and needs a bit time to recover, so lets give them a break here. Yes, it may not be realistic, but for the gameplay, most probably a mandatory feature. It also helps the smaller nations to stay in the game. Pirates should be in "war" all the time against every other nation.
  21. Shipwrecks should have MC upgrades mostly. With a good roll Exceptional. I mean a GOOD ROLL. And bottles change should be 1/10 from what it is now. ... And I know we are in alpha, and testing, nothing bad in that. But do not know why you want to over test ruined economy. Nothing to gain or to learn in this one.
  22. I kinda agree with the idea that BR vs BR should define the reward as well. Also the player count maybe should affect to it. If there is a gank fleet of 5 players, and they hit 1 player, they should get decreased reward from that. The one guy, if he gets something done, the reward should be multiplied. This encourages people to fight and try, even tho the odds are not the best. Also, it is not so nice to be in a gank fleet when you know your reward is decreased. Once again, maybe not the most realistic, but it is a game, and might create good playability.
  23. Surrendering at the end, and then stop the ship from sinking, and save your men. Unrealistic as it is, but I think that would give the best playability. It is not nice that the guys just surrender. I want to see that even tho that the odds are grim, they may take the odds. Test if they actually could do it. If penalized too much -> We wont get good PvP. Game should be more than attacking with a gank squad and then the other person just surrenders.
  24. Selling a captured ship, getting fame and motivated crew. Maybe the bug could be turned in a feature as well.
