  1. There's always a way to angle realism.. Okay. You sail around national ports. How many ships, fleets and other player under the same national flag don't you see on a single trip? Judging by the simple fact that anything you can see, can also see you. You should not even be able to sail in as a smuggler in the first place. And those who remember a name or even take notes of other players could tell in a moments notice who is a pirate and who is not. As of today, the people who do actions like this are well known. Notoriety is probably a pirate or privateer's worst enemy. No. We should for future reference skip the hassle about realism this'n'that, this includes me. It's never an apology for poor game mechanics.
  2. Edited first post as I fear some didn't fully understand. What this discussion is all about.
  3. Im not asking for a removal of the smuggler flag. Im asking for a redesign. If you have smuggler enabled and attack something you lose your smuggler flag and thus cannot enter an enemy harbour, you'd have to sail back to a neutral/national/free port to re-enable it to go out and do your trading.
  4. I was camping the port he was hiding inside for 2 hours. 2 hours of my life I spent. Instead of 5 minutes if this nonesense had not been possible.
  5. An LGV using smuggler flag is pretty much untouchable as the LGV has a different sailing profile than most square rigs. Only ships that COULD have a chance would be another LGV, the refit, pirfrig or surp. You'd be pretty much chanceless if you face a boarding fitted lgv refit unless you get lucky and get a mast or two. The swivels are insane against crew. Now Im not saying they are faster cause they have smuggler flag enabled. But that enables them to jump into any harbour where they can hide. How people can't see any issues with that is beyond me. Tell a new player about this issue once he has been jumped by one and he will probably rethink his choice of game. I certainly would. "Sorry we couldn't get him cause he is now hiding in our national port, probably logged off by now" - Great. That kind of make me ashamed. To be wanting to see good things coming out of this game, explaining possible thoughts from the devs, defending poor mechanics with "it will be better" yet losing players to grief and abuse of game mechanics.
  6. You can call reinforcements but the "new" trend is to wait for people who attack those enemy fleets/ships that roam around OW. If you get jumped in such a battle you can't call reinforcements. And new players, hell even I, thought you'd be safe within the reinforcement zone regardless. After yesterdays event I got fed up with the complete bullshit nonsense about the smuggler flag harbour hiding.
  7. Impressive in a way, to see that 20 people don't see any issues with the current smuggler flag where people can grab an LGV or LGV refit and gank people within the safe zone, often but not exclusively new players. And when a coast guard gets assembled they can just dock up in any harbour and log off to do something else for a few hours and then come back. Without having to face any consequences. How about just make it so that trader's can't tag or join battles? The LGV Refit would then be rather useless for what people use it for today.
  8. As much as I hate polls, I added one. I had to give in and realize it's good for a better overview. I would prefer to see the advanced solution but as far as Im concerned devs prefer simple solutions. ( yeah im still a bit sore about the economy flipflop )
  9. Simple solution: Make smuggler flag only available for trader's brig and down. This way we get rid of the lame smuggler flag abuse on LGV's and now also LGV Refit. Could also benefit RvR. Since you can't sail after your heavy trading goods with an indiaman in an enemy port. This way you'd have to conquer that port. Explanation: You will not be able to enable smuggler flag for ANY ship above trader's brig. Oooor... Advanced solution: Smuggler flag gets disabled once you have attacked someone in battle. Wouldn't that be realistic? You're pretty much detected as a smuggler if you were to attack someone? Makes sense to me... Explanation: You'd lose your smuggler flag if you attack anything. You can enable smuggler flag for ANY trader ship still. But you will have to go back to national/free/neutral port to re-enable.
  10. If anything spawn more epic missions
  11. Well, you just keep taking new missions until they're inside the safe zone. Two ways to see a solution. Either you make them spread less. (Like taking missions in gustavia will popup in the settlement like you're going there doing a solo mission with your 1st rate) *I also know sarcasm* Or you take back what we had before. If you take missions and cancel them they will popup at the same place until you go out and complete them.
  12. First of all I would like to see the pirate mechanic entirely remade. In my opinion pirates should operate from the hidden island(s). They should not be able to conquer ports. But they could do port battles. But their port battles should not be about conquering. Their port battles should be about raiding the harbour. Say each harbour have a treasury which the pirates then would take if they win the port battle. It should work for non-capturable. But only for pirates. This would also make use of the hidden taxes that the AI just buy liquor from. So. Pirates operate from the secret harbours (which are uncapturable). They cannot conquer ports but they can instead raid them to steal all the money in the treasury. Along with random loot which grade is based upon the size of the treasury. For example Cartagena de indias would be a quite interesting target for pirates. Not to mention capitals. Pirates can still operate from free and/or neutral ports. Ofc that along with the suggested changes from the OP would in my world make pirates really interesting. Not that same problem we've had since day one with pirates being just another nation. But something that allow pirates to be more like pirates.
  13. Well, Im quite sure we ain't gonna see non-attackable free roaming AI fleets within reinforcement zones. Otherwise Im fine with just anything. Point of this thread is that there's no point in spreading the missions outside the reinforcement zones as players will just keep cancelling and take new ones. The solution doesn't matter too much.
  14. Excuse my carebearity. But missions is a great way to get some kind of economy started. Now. Since the reintroduction of safe zones or reinforcement areas. Why would we still need the missions to spread out so far from the place we grab them? This is just frustrating. Lets face it. If you're looking for something to do you look for missions within the safe zone perimeter. Or pvp outside the safe zone. Now you probably think "well easy solution would be to disable the ability to cancel missions and grab new ones to get them where you want them" - Wrong. I personally would stop doing missions at all. I highly doubt im alone on that matter. On a second note. You could also remove the confirmation popup when you have accepted a mission as you already have confirmation in the mission list where it clearly tells you what type and rank the mission is. I could approve of a proper ENTER function for those "Ok" popups. Less mouse clicks to get there.
  15. Nice. This patch might be the end of Sweden and Denmark-Norway. Wouldn't it be time. That we all migrated to Europe? Im so effin ready for the baltic sea.
  16. Meh. We've tested lots of things in the past why not try this aswell? If it's totally crap devs will revert to what we had before or try something else. Put UI high on that list next. Many newcomers dislike the current UI. Some even quit because of it.
  17. This feels like content for NA Legends. #Edit: Nvm. Didn't read. Im sorry. Can you forgive me?
  18. Bytt nation?
  19. This however "New Patch Monday: New ships and Important information" Unity5 on monday?
  20. If a clan capture a port and decides to set it as neutral or free and set a taxrate to 50%. A good reason for the enemy to capture said port if trade/production is of any interest.
