  1. HMS Caesar was an 80-gun third rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 16 November 1793 at Plymouth. She was designed by Sir Edward Hunt, and was the only ship built to her draught. She was also one of only two British-built 80-gun ships of the period, the other being HMS Foudroyant (1798). Battle of Algeciras Bay She was involved in the Battle of Algeciras Bay in 1801, during which her Master, William Grave, was killed and buried in Trafalgar Cemetery in Gibraltar. Battle of Cape OrtegalThe Battle of Cape Ortegal was the final action of theTrafalgar Campaign, and was fought between a squadron of the Royal Navy and a remnant of the fleet that had been destroyed several weeks earlier at the Battle of Trafalgar. It took place on 4 November 1805 off Cape Ortegal, in north-west Spain and saw a squadron under Captain Sir Richard Strachan in Caesar defeat and capture a French squadron under Rear-Admiral Pierre Dumanoir le Pelley. Battle of Les Sables-d'OlonneIn 1809, she took part in the Battle of Les Sables-d'Olonne. FateShe was converted to serve as a depot ship in 1814, and was broken up in 1821. General characteristics Class and type: 80-gun third rate ship of the line Tons burthen: 1992 tons (2024 tonnes) Length: 181 ft (55 m) (gundeck) Beam: 51 ft 3 in (15.62 m) Depth of hold: 22 ft 4 in (6.81 m) Armament: 80 guns: Gundeck: 30 × 32 pdrs Upper gundeck: 32 × 24 pdrs Quarterdeck: 14 × 9 pdrs Forecastle: 4 × 9 pdrs Strachan's Action after Trafalgar, 4 November 1805: Bringing Home the Prizes After their defeat at Trafalgar in 1805, the remnants of the Franco-Spanish fleet dispersed and sought safety to seaward. Off Cape Ortegal, north-west Spain, was a squadron of British ships under the command of Sir Richard Strachan. His brief was to apprehend Captain Allemand's Franco-Spanish Rochefort squadron and when a group of enemy ships were sighted he initially assumed that they were Allemand's. In fact they were commanded by Rear-Admiral Dumanoir-Le-Pelley who was trying to reach safety with his four ships of the line; the 'Formidable', 80 guns, 'Mont Blanc', 74 guns, 'Scipion', 74 guns and 'Duguay-Trouin', 74 guns. An action ensued in which all four French ships were taken. The painting shows the four ships represented as prizes being carried home to Plymouth. The 'Caesar', 80 guns, is shown in broadside and bow view, flying the red ensign from the stern. The holes in her sails testify to the action and she has the captured French ship 'Formidable', 80 guns, in tow. Pendennis Castle, Falmouth, is visible in the background to the right together with the coastline of Cornwall. Other British ships involved in the action are also towing their captured ships along the English Channel. In the foreground a small boat flying the white ensign is laden with people watching the scene. Several of the men wave their hats to salute the vessels as they sail past and serve to underscore that this has been a British victory. The captured French ships were all added to the Royal Navy, with the 'Formidable', becoming the 'Brave', and the 'Duguay-Trouin', the 'Implacable'. Strachan's action gave the final blow to Napoleon's invasion plans. He was promoted to Rear-Admiral on 9 November 1805 and each of the captains involved in the action was presented with a gold medal. Plans:
  2. Дания - исторический союзник России. Да и самих датчан мало. Думаю имеет смысл поддержать эту нацию.
  3. And Santisima Trinidad is a Cuban 1-st rate, lol. Nice info though. The ship in the game looks unfinished. No figurehead or stern decorations.
  4. Well, first of all I agree that Zmajevic probably deserved to be in the list for his great service for the Imperial Russian Navy (and was excluded by my mistake). You are wrong about the ranks though, as the highest rank in the IRN was General admiral, than Admiral, than Vice-Admiral. Vice-admiral cannot be higher than admiral as the prefix vice- means a deputy, someone who takes the place of someone else.
  6. http://www.maritiemdigitaal.nl/index.cfm?event=search.getdetail&id=102014479 Description: Drawing of the ship "The Unity". Artist Jan Sweeres. The ship was built in Harlingen. It's clearly dutch. As it was a merchant ship, you probably won't find much information about it. I think the drawing has all the necessary info.
  7. We should add hitmarkers, like in Battlefield! Every time a player manages to score a hit - BAM, a hit marker, damage numbers and a loud shout: YOU DID GOOD SON !
  8. HMS Endymion was a 40-gun fifth rate that served in the French Revolutionary Wars, the Napoleonic Wars, the War of 1812 and during the First Opium War. She was built to the lines of the French prize Pomone captured in 1794. She was the lead ship of her class of six 24-pounder frigates, although the other five ships built to this design were not built until nearly the end of theNapoleonic War. She was famous for her battle with USS President on 15 January 1815, in which she caught the American frigate and crippled her, which led to the President's final capture some hours later. Apart from this, Endymion was known as the fastest sailing-ship in the Royal Navy during the Age of Sail, logging 14.4 knots (26.7 km/h) sailing large, and nearly 11.0 knots (20.4 km/h) close-hauled.[2] Endymion‍ 's last active duty came during the First Opium War and included operations on theYangtze river. She became a receiving ship in 1859 and was broken up in June 1868. Throughout her career, Endymion was praised for her remarkable sailing qualities. She therefore was a highly desirable command for frigate captains. Even in the 1830s, long after her war service, she was regarded as the benchmark for Royal Navy frigates. She was still capable of outsailing much newer ships with which she sailed in company. Tons burthen: 1,277 bm Length: 159 ft 3 in (48.5 m) Beam: 42 ft 7 in (13.0 m) Draught: 15 ft 8 in (4.8 m) Speed: Over 14 knots (16 mph; 26 km/h) running; 11 knots (13 mph; 20 km/h) close-hauled Complement: 300, increased to 340 during the War of 1812 Armament: Upper deck: 26 × 24-pounder guns (11 kg); From Nov 1803 to 17 May 1813: 26 × 18-pounders (8 kg); From 17 May 1813: 26 × 24-pounder guns QD: 14 (from 17 May 1813: 16) × 32-pounder (15 kg) carronades Fc: 2 × 9-pounders (4 kg) + 4 × 32-pounder carronades https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Endymion_(1797) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capture_of_USS_President HMS Endymion closes in on USS President the battle with USS President USS President (left foreground) having surrendered, HMS Endymion (right foreground) is shown without her fore topmast, due to damage she sustained during her duel with the American ship. 11. I don't think so. The french designed and built ships for the Ottomans, their influence on the russian shipbuilding was minimal. Besides, looks like St. Paul was just a development of a previous ship "Iosif II" built by the same shipbuilder Afanasiev, launched in 1787. (Tonnant was launched in 1789) The stern does look similar. Maybe an overall tendency?
  12. Oh yes. Gibraltar, Øresund, English Channel, Bosphorus – a Europe map would be just a bunch of bottlenecks. A paradise for campers.
  13. I did some research. Looks like the figurehead was the Apostle Paul: Some sources claim she had a lion as her figurehead: http://forum.modelsworld.ru/post273379.html#p273379 Nevertheless, it definitely had a figurehead (it was a flagship after all). I don't think the devs left some space for customizable figureheads (it's not in their immediate plans), they just forgot to make it for this ship.)
  14. Some info on the russian dudes: Matija Zmajevic - he was more like a shipbuilder but did nothing of significance as an admiral, I would add Fyodor Apraksin (1661 –1728) instead of him who commanded the russian fleet in the Great Northern War (Battle of Gangut - 1714). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fyodor_Apraksin Grigory Spiridov 1713- 1790 (aged 77). Battle of Chesma (1770) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grigory_Spiridov Samuel Greig 1736-1788 (aged 51). Battle of Hogland (1788) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Greig Fyodor Ushakov 1745 - 1817 (aged 72), the most illustrious Russian admiral, without any doubt. Battles of Fidonisi (1788), Kerch Strait (1790), Tendra (1790), Cape Kaliakra (1791), and the siege of Corfu (1798-1799) for which he was awarded a chelengk by the Sultan. Under his command he did not lose a single ship and never lost a battle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fyodor_Ushakov Dmitry Senyavin 1763 - 1831 (aged 67). Battle of the Dardanelles, Battle of Athos (1807) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmitry_Senyavin Mikhail Lazarev 1788 – 1851 (aged 62). Battle of Navarino (1827). More famous as an explorer (took part in the discovery of Antarctica) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikhail_Lazarev Pavel Nakhimov 1802 – 1855 (aged 53). Battle of Sinop (1853) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavel_Nakhimov
  15. I think de Delft is the best candidate for the first dutch warship in the game. 1) It's more modern (1783) unlike other famous dutch ships from the 17th century (beautiful but old-fashioned). 2) It will fill the gap between Constie and Bellona nicely. 3) That statue in the middle of the stern is so badass.
  16. I'd rather have a real HMS Diana or a historical russian frigate (there are plenty of plans). I thought they didn't want to have made up ships in the game.
  17. You're maybe right. They definitely have a similar style. Rossiya's stern: Ingermanland's stern:
  18. Saint Nicholas / Святой Николай was a russian heavy frigate built in Nikolaev and launched in 1790. She participated in Russo-Turkish War (1787–92) and the War of the Second Coalition (against french forces in the Mediterranean, 1798-1800) General characteristics Class: 44-gun frigate Length of Gundeck: 45.72 metres Length of Keel: 13 metres Breadth: 4.572 metres Displacement: 1,840 tons Armament (1790): 50 guns Upper Gun Deck: 22 Russian 24-Pounder Upper Gun Deck: 4 Russian 1-Pood Edinorog Quarterdeck/Forecastle: 20 Russian 18-Pounder Quarterdeck/Forecastle: 4 Russian 8-Pounder
  19. That would be a perfect premium ship. Really beautiful and not overpowered.
  23. The problem with the17-th century ships is that their armament is rather weak compared to the ships from Napoleonic era (as most of the ships in the game are from that era) Compare these stats:http://threedecks.org/index.php?display_type=show_ship&id=806 and http://threedecks.org/index.php?display_type=show_ship&id=1993 Having almost the same number of guns, Tonnant has twice as much broadsight weight. So " 7 Provinciën" will be completely overpowered by the ships of the same rate. It is a problem that needs to be solved as I don't know how ships from 17-th century can compete with more modern ones.

  25. She sails quite allright, using a diesel engine (as you can see on the first photo). They are planning to raise sails on her on big holidays.
