Should players with limited time even bother with this game.

Recommended Posts

Read some of the debates vs HC and casual. Interesting to say the least lol. Myself I get an hour -two hours a night game time. Depending on when the wife and get nod off. I am more interested in the open world aspects than the possibility of quick match duels/arcade( although I will play those as well) . But from what I get the impression of is that OW will take several hours daily to do well in( once released)

So for a guy like me who is more interested in the possible in depth portion vs the more arcaded type fighting will this game be a waste of time.

We have no confirmation that the current Sea Trials battle mode will be there on release.  We do have an assurance that there will be some sort of "quick battle" mode that will allow those that just want to jump into the action to get their sailing fix.

I'm an extremely casual player with a big family.  I expect I'll be able to do short trading runs and patrol near my main "port" just fine.  :)

Hopefully the open world content won't be to bad for the "short timers" like myself. After being a beta tester, and regular player on the console version of WOT with random battles only (13 k ish) anything resembling TDM has lost its shine lol.

Any open world MMO is going to be a time sink.

However, if you pick a good local base for your operations, it should be perfectly easy to get several battles per every two hours. Especially if you're a solo player or pirate. And if you sign up as an escort you could get more.

Yeah, honestly you'll be restricted to local waters (and with the speeds as they are currently, that's still quite a distance).  But from the sound of things, you'll be able to experience a lot of the game perfectly fine.  Just don't expect to conquer the world. :P

I wouldn't worry about it.  Though the game isn't finished, I'm confident the end result will strike a good balance between realism/hardcore gameplay and quick and dirty, easy access, casual gameplay for people with limited time.

The game is still in alpha in a big way, what we see now will undoubtedly get changed by release. I'm sure that Game Labs has no intention of letting those with disposable income have no reason to play, that would be a huge chunk of gamers. My guess is that those with less time per day to play will have just as much fun and interesting things to do in the game.

I think speculation at this stage is just way to early, we don't even have a fully operational open world with lots of players so I'd say just relax. From all I've read the devs have a firm grasp on their vision and a really good understanding of who their paying customers will be. Just give it time, this is going to be fantastic.

We build the game for an adult man, who has a family, a job and does not have 18 hours per day to play.

That is why you will have an escort function (only to high rep non-pirate players), commander tablet to manage your npc fleet, and 5 durabilities for your ship so your downtime between battles consists of sailing and searching for enemies when you play session starts. (and not searching for the ship, refitting, and looking for another group member)

Like Maturin said, as long as you pick a good location, you should be fine.  Now, if you want to travel across the map and long distances, you will have to put in a good chunk of time, whether all in one play period or broken up into multiple is up to you.

In the same bracket myself, current sea trials show Gamelabs are very good at listening to players concerns, the also the statement above from admin above we won't be ignored. Thus far I have very high hopes this will be a game I play for many years ( for no more than 2-3hours per night) Edited by Sir Darric Vandhelm

i belive it will be the perfect game for all even those with limited time, why?becouse there be so much to do,,fishing, boat races, exploreing, building ur economy or business,,just do what you can in the time you got and pull over somwheres for your break.then continue when you get back, and if pvp is what you really want im sure theres going to be just too many to accept your challange,,as you see in lobby there is a duel. hope you stay and play good hunting

Ports will probably be decently spaced (only few minutes between).  Find a port with tons of npc activity near by.  Spend 1-2 hours killing things.  Profit, get off.  No more time necessary than any other game.
