Hey Admirals,

Please share the following:

1) Academy Missions you like the most and why? What would you change to make it more interesting for you

2) Academy missions you hate the most and why? What is causing frustration?

3) Please propose new missions or challenges (historical or fictional), share your ideas for missions you would enjoy playing, by describing the situations and the difficulties you want to face. Maybe your suggestion can be the next mission you will play in Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts!

Thank you in advance for you feedback and suggestions!

As Absolute0CA said, I would be really excited if we can have a a full on Battle Line/Battle of Jutland-style mission with many battleships per side. I can already imagine having a total budget and having to decide between fielding either many dreadnoughts or a smaller number of larger and stronger super-dreadnoughts.

Ive only played half the battles so far just getting the game this week so far I liked the convoy attack the best.

The one I disliked the most was BB vs TBs.  I dont think that would be very realistic as there would be screening ships.  Plus its a pain to sink them.

As far as future battles maybe some kind of raider mission.  Armoured CA vs CLs and transports?  Also may think about forcing some kind of range as I am guessing it would be needed in campaigns.  Right now everyone ive seen has had smallest range to save space.  Maybe short range at first going up to long range.  That would force us to develop more realistic ships plus test balance

I don't like the timer on the old dradnought one I want to be able to do it slowly, esp as accuracy and ROF is so low on these things. Plus this feels quite in tune with naval warfare of that time.

I feel that "the defend the convoy" mission is a bit underwhelming. Beating it is very easy. Either with DD's (litteraly took me one torpedo launch from my 4 DD's)  or using heavy cruisers (ok, pocket battleships) is very easy. I would like something more epic. Maybe make it a raiding Fleet with 2 BCs and 2 modern cruisers. But that would be an entirely different mission.

I would also like something centered around semi dreadnoughts maybe.

1) I really kinda like the sink the full fleet battle.  It is a challenge and it's win-able, but not realistic.  The player side needs screening vessels.  I like all the fleet actions, even when there isn't a fleet. 😉

2) I dislike the most outlandishly unrealistic missions in the Academy.  BB vs TB's being at the top of the list.  To make them more enjoyable, add more forces.  It doesn't need to be much, just enough to make it plausible.  No BB would ever sortie without a screen.

3) I would like to suggest several "missions"  from history.  A full battle-line scenario like AbsoluteOCA suggests (something like Tsushima or Surigao Straits maybe both! and/or something new); a running gun-battle where one a small fleet attempts to escape from another fleet (maybe BC's); a mission to get a BB and a CA out into the Atlantic; a mission to stop a couple of BB's from getting through to bombard something; a nighttime surprise cruiser attack on another cruiser group; a night action where a couple of BB's fight a fleet of CA's and DD's at ridiculously close range; a two on two night time BB action; and both day and night time cruiser actions.  Just thinking...

I agree with previous posters that some missions should have a longer time limit. Especially those where you can or must use long range fire. The AI needs some improvements; If a ship runs low on main gun ammunition it will stop shooting on all weapons. I was fighting a BB that ran low on ammunition for one of it's 12inch turrets (it had two), so it stopped shooting on all guns, even though it had ample ammunition for the other 12in battery, and very much ammuntion for the 7in casemat guns of which I was well within range. Likewise, it would be good if we could assign different commands to primary and secondary guns on our ships. Like at long range tell secondary guns to conserve their fire and the other way around at short range.

1) "Destroy a full fleet". Because its the one that offer the most variety design wise.

2) "SuperDreadnough or Battlecruiser?". Because it crash for me. Outside of that the PT and Destroyer related. They are not very balanced atm.

3) Ideally it would be a skirmish mode but a scenario that allow us to access all the hull class and design would be good. Against something like Destroy a full fleet.

I would love to see a multi class mission, with maybe 4-6 ships total.

Another idea would be too ambush an unsuspecting fleet protecting either a few well armoured transports with important documents, blueprints, information or tech while escorted by any number of ships from 6-10.

Protect a beach or an island which you can see and go to that maybe have limited coastal defences that have good accuracy (but kinda low dpm). On the island/beach could have civillian housing, research bases, airfields, military installations and beyond.

Maybe escort a CV (with no planes) back to a port.

And a large fleet engagment for both sides for mess about.

Academy Missions you like the most and why? What would you change to make it more interesting for you:

  1. Destroy a Full Fleet - I enjoy the scale and challenge of this mission, and the tech balances feels just right.
  2. Armed Convoy Attack - this mission is nice because of the unique blend of  pressing time limits and warships actively working against your objective. Most other missions have the warships as the objective, but not this one. I typically build a small fleet rather than a single supership as the superships are far less interesting.
  3. Pre-dreadnought Conflict - not much to say about a full fleet battle; such things speak for themselves.
  4. Defend your Convoy - I actually enjoy fighting against the battlecruiser with the heavy cruisers the most. I've been trying to use the cruiser hull to create a German-style battlecruiser.
  5. Search and Destroy -  the units here I typically build a are fairly evenly matched with the enemy. This is a nice match for seeing BB v BB (or BC) action.

Academy missions you hate the most and why? What is causing frustration?

  1. The Modern Battleship - this mission is everything I don't want. A single powerful ship laying waste to everything. It's rather dull, as there's no fleet action, and this is only exacerbated by the fact the Yamato is perhaps the most uninteresting of the Japanese hulls.
  2. The "Basics" - these missions in particular I've not actually done except for the first two or three. They're tutorial missions. Don't have much to say about them.
  3. Battlecruiser vs Dreadnought - I don't think this missions should be changed - it's a nice challenge - I'm just not the greatest fan of "duel" type missions. Also speed isn't armour. You are wrong, Admiral Fisher.
  4. Superdreadnought or Battlecruiser - this mission suffers from the same issue as "The Modern Battleship," where the emphasis is far more on a supership than fleet action.
  5. Undefended Convoy Attack - the enemy cannot defend themselves. I'm aware this is the point of this mission, but I want fleet action, not a slaughter 😂

Please propose new missions or challenges (historical or fictional), share your ideas for missions you would enjoy playing, by describing the situations and the difficulties you want to face. Maybe your suggestion can be the next mission you will play in Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts!

  1. Definitely would like to see more fleet command style missions where you build a medium or large sized fleet and get to pit battleline against battleline.
  2. History-inspired missions. You guys did state you were not going to recreate specific battles, but you can still give us the funds, tech, and objectives similar to real battles to afford us an approximation of them.

1)  All covoy mission for opportunity to build not only battleships/battle cruisers. "Pre-dreadnought conflict" for retro style and believability of what is happening on the screen.

2) "Torpedo the dreadnought" because AI BB have lot of big guns and in time acceleration mode pulverize attackers to the dust. And 10 torpedo hit not enough to victory. " Destroyers against torpedo boats", as destroyers have huge problems with hit TD. "Destroy the full fleet"  since the enemy has radars,  more ships and guns than player and  only way to win is sink them all. This is worse than the Hochseeflotte vs Grand Fleet.

3) History-inspired missions, access to all hull class and designs.

1) My favourite missions are:

Armed Convoy Attack - I like the fact that there are multiple strategies - either ignore the defending ships and go straight for the transports or kill the escorts and have free reign to mop up the transports. It offers a good challenge due to this and i like that there are a variety of ships to choose from.

Battlecruiser v Dreadnought - again it presents a challenge and because the displacement limit is low, you must carefully design your ship to suit your strategy (e.g glass cannon or heavily armoured but weaker firepower).

2) My least favourite missions are :

Torpedo the Dreadnought.

What i dislike about this mission is:

  • The low funds available which limits the number of ships you can build. I think the mission would be more enjoyable if you were able to build a few more destroyers.
  • I find the dreadnought's main battery fire too accurate, often the mission is essentially over after a few salvos from the dreadnought.
  • The lack of damage from torpedoes
  • Finally, i feel like it relies too much on landing lucky torpedo hits and this leads to less enjoyable gameplay

Destroyers v Torpedo Boats

  • Again, i think the funds are too low considering the number of torpedo boats you face
  • The Destroyer's guns are too innacurate, even at close range.
  • You need the battleship to destroy the cruisers in order to succeed but you cannot design the battleship, i find the battleship is often fairly useless.
  • For me, either you need more funds or to lower the number of torpedo boats.

3) My suggestions for missions:

  • A modern (i.e 1939-1945) Destroyer mission. An example of a historical battle that could be used: The battle of the Malacca straight where a number of British destroyers fought the Japanese cruiser Haguro. This could be especially interesting if the battle could be fought in heavy rain/squalls with low visibility.
  • A Jutland style battle could be interesting (maybe not the exact same scale) but it could have you designing super dreadnoughts to rescue your retreating battlecruisers.
  • A modern (again 1930's to 40's) light cruiser v heavy cruiser battle that allows you to build multiple light cruisers to face a modern heavy cruiser. Historical examples - the battle of River Plate (although this included Exeter) or the battle of the Barents sea. This mission could involve chasing down a heavy cruiser and overwhelming it and could involve destroyers. This mission would require a limit on the armour thickness of the heavy cruiser i think. 2-3 inches of belt armour similar to the Admiral Hipper class.

Hopefully, some of this was useful. Keep up the good work.

I recommend more cruiser type missions! This is to prepare players for the campaign as most of their time might be spent on cruiser battles. More missions involving cruisers (or Battlecruisers) would be wise and most relevant to the campaign.

I want the battle of Samar aka the Last Stand of Taffy 3

Think that should be a new mode called, Naval historics or something.

Naval academy can be more generic scenarios and also a tut while historics can feature challenging and realistic (up to a reasonable degree) events anyone can take part in!

Ok that’s a fair point and a really good idea. I second a historical battle mode to replicate historical naval actions.

Also from a UI point of view it make it less confusing for a new player.

Sorry if im a bit angreh in my posts it's just im semi dying from the flu atm.

For Challenges it would be great if there is Academy missions where the enemy ships are always in the same configuration. Then it would be possible to see who can do the mission with the least amount of tonnage or money. I believe currently the ships you fight in the same mission are not always the same, which is great. But for Challenges it would be better if they are, so there is a possibility to compare results - well obviously individual commanding skills would also have an impact. In KSP such Challenges seem to attract lots of people :)

1) Academy Missions you like the most and why? What would you change to make it more interesting for you

21 Modern battleship: Endgame mission showing all this game can be. Yes you should have a screen yes spotting is kinda wonky but massive ship and massive guns laying waste to all before you was worth the price of admission.

19 Pre dreadnought conflict: From late game to early game i like this one forces a compromise somewhere in construction. With so few techs designing a perfect ship is out of the question so choices in enough room for funnels at the cost of armor or being forced into lighter or single turret guns to get the ships you need was nice.

12 Battle crusor vs Dreadnaught. First "real" mission for big ships on big ships. plus everyone gets to feel smart for using speed and taking advantage of wind dmg ect...

2) Academy missions you hate the most and why? What is causing frustration?

13 Torpeedo the Dreadnaught: Torps do so little dmg and destroyers go up like matchboxes one of 3 missions I have yet to finish. I care far less for the realism of any given scenario but this one is just unfun.

17 Destroy a full fleet: Crashes. oh so many crashes.

15 Destroyers vs Torpedo boats. This should be an easy mission the name torpedo boat destroyers should make this one of the hardest counters in the game. Cut to 2 hours of trying to mirco around swarms of torpedoes and never hitting the little buggers with 4" guns

Some form of radar cruiser shadowing a Battle cruisers and trying to slow it down for battleships to catch up. This happened repeatedly in the second world war and I would love to see something like it here.

Breakout! all of the missions involve sinking the enemy but what about trying to make it out or into a blocked harbor? I dont know how hard it would be to add a victory condition of being in a set spot but that could be tons of fun. Not all battles were winnable.

I feel an early battle set at night or in a massive storm would be good for teaching the importance of weather. Some times success of failure can depend on those accuracy modifiers and it took me entirely to long to start checking them at the start of missions.

3)...

Waves of Enemies.

Build a fleet to repel two fleets, one after the other etc. Could makeup lots of different scenarios for all the different classes versing each other. Even repel three or more fleets. Some of them could be fuel and ammo dependant missions.

I think this gives Dev’s "quite a few" missions to dream up!  😊

PS, and missions destroying port building (blowing them up) and shore defences too.

I liked most of the missions, the only real exceptions are the ones where I have to fight TBs. BB secondary guns and even DDs seem to be completely unable to hit the things, meaning most of the time I have to watch every single boat for torpedo launches and this gets tiring really fast.

For future additions, I would love to see a conflict between more modern ships, not just a Super-Yamato destroying a horde of hopelessly outdated ships. It was satisfying to have accurate guns after all of the other missions, and it would be interesting to have an opponent actually capable of fighting back! More modern hull variety would also be very welcome there.
