Right Now Fleet Ships are Ruining Good PvP:

Recommended Posts

Something needs to be done about fleets.  Currently, they are ruining what I would consider decent pvp matches.  They either need to be removed from the game entirely, or they need to be tweaked somehow.  The developers seem to like PvP fleets so my recommendation, if we are forced to play with them, is to tie them to perks (and they would have to be expensive, I would say 8 points) and a BR limit of 1/2 of the BR of your ship.  So if you are piloting a Constitution with a 300 BR, your total fleet BR can be no more than 150 BR.  So you could have say 2 mercury's in your fleet.  Fleets need to be balanced so that a person who takes other perks to improve the manning of his ship is not at a disadvantage against a player who has taken the fleet perk.  If I am in a constitution and used 10 points to improve my ship and another player has a constitution and the fleet perk and he has used 10 points, the battle should be equal if we were to fight.

Developers please do something about fleets!

While i agree fleets ruin pvp im afraid we are in a minority. Its seem that rather than be good or learn to be good or sail with others or near the million ai ships all you need to do is cry and moan " its not fair" and the game changes to suit you.

Now instead of ever getting better people just upgrade the ai ships with them.

Last week there was a low level in a cutter with TWO ai victory in his feet.

Obviously way undercrewed but still they only need to hit you once plus nobody could attack him.

I can't believe I"m agreeing on this topic but hay I'll have to say when you have battles in OW newbie zones (apparently that port which is a newbie region isn't newbie zone) you get battles like this.

That was our battle out side Morgan's Bluff last week.  You can only see 29+ on the US side but there was more than that in the fight as some of there ships got sunk by the cannons.  It's so bad in the Bahama's with fleets that a lot of folks don't even play in them any more cause your sure to get ganked by players that all have 2 AI ships each.  I been going around in there and some of the area's shown that should be part of the Newbie regions aren't newbie regions so you can catch folks in these blind spots and abuse the system.  It's one thing to run a few escorts with traders and such, but when you always have AI with you it's annoying.

Oh and the Brits have lately brought ships with there SOL fleets and as soon as we show up to catch them coming out of there fleet missions they switch ships and sent there Rates home and come out in smaller ships they where under crewing.   I'm sorry they need to stop the teleport ship thing after battles.  You should have to sail your ship or prizes back to port before you can send them any where.

lol, go find someone without the fleet.

CASE SOLVED.

I chose to read that in an ironic tone ;) I heartily agree.

Only noobs need a AI fleet to cover their ass.

I'm a #NoFleets man myself, but we have a problem: Indiamen. Even I agree that players need fleets to make indiamen a viable choice of haulers.

I have a dream that fighting ships aren't allowed to drag fleets around. Like Rychu points out it makes it harder to find PVP targets you can hope to beat unless you give in and bring bots yourself, and if I do that something inside me dies (personal preference).

1. Leave the battles open until equal BR has been reached.

2. Give reward based on BR balance, BR ratio as a multiplier.  (Max 1.1, Min 0.1)

Both or one of those.  Both lead to decreased amount of fleet ships, using those only when really needed.  For example in case of Indiaman.

In all honesty the fleets are way more disrupting than the battle screen.

I can understand the Traders using them as escort. Fine. But please, make the BR not count as the "invulnerability bubble" is present 8 out of 10 times.

A warship shouldn't. Missions have assisting AI if the player so wishes.

Might I suggest something here?

1) Combat ships no fleets

2) Traders get escorts (fleets)

So what I am suggesting is if you sail a Combat vessel your fleets are automatically disabled by the game before you leave port.

If you decide to run your Indiaman then you get to assign escort vessels (fleets) but this is limited to say max a 5th rate as historically you would rarely find traders escorted at all unless it was a military convoy and there was very few occasions where anything bigger than a 3rd rate was used for escort duties.

I would like it the other way around, like z4ys suggested. Only traders in your fleet, but you can put your goods on them. Your job is it to protect them.

Player fleets with multiple warships is just ..... ugh (maybe only if you capture one and want to escort it home instead of teleport (why would you do this now) with assigning crew only from the crew pool of your main ship)
