Yea, probably some deserters, perhaps some convicts, deadbeats, wharf rats... but they are OUR deserters (enticed them fair and square) and Wharf Rats. You want 'em?

You should watch out - if you get too close to an American ship full of free men - your OWN crew of shanghaied men might start jumping sides!

 

Arhhhh the classic 'Land of the Free' retort and how we poor conscripted and pressed sailors propped up the Royal Navy!!!

 

I recommend you read this for a comprehensive view of life of the average RN sailor.
