Patch 9.8 - Damage model 5.0, Server merges, Bird is a word (19th may)

And that is exactly why I hate it. Another "godsend" to gankers. First they made huge chunks of the game unaccessible to players who did not belong to a clan, now they're taking away another part of it for those who can't spend 2hrs at a time sailing across the map and dodging organised gankers to move a simple heap of wood.

"Oh but you'll get XP traveling". I'm a Commodore on a 3rd rate, I'd gladly sell XP if I could...

This is just terrible timing for me : work towards something for weeks and when you finally get it, here comes a big "F*ck You" patch that wipes everything out. A little forewarning would have been appreciated.

But yay ! birds !

One raider intercepting a trader IS NOT A GANK.

Sorry for the voice tone, but it crawls up my nervous system that you call such a simple situation A GAAAANK !!

Honestly... trading would be not that much affected... i think it could be even easier... jou can now jum to any outpost at your lesure... witch means you don't even have to travel using ships to produce stuff or buy stuff, only to move it. So you can basically just produce/buy a tone and move it back to capital when it's safe...

I dont understand mate. Teleport with cargo was one of the main concerns for many players on the pvp server. It allowed safe hauling on the PVP server for everyone. It will make hauling dangerous and will make privateering possible (finally). + you really underestimate the power of dock to dock teleport towing. You will spend less time sailing actually - but the time you sail will be more dangerous.

and it does not affect pve server at all (i hope)

Too much upgrades kills the upgrades in my opinion but that's maybe just me

I had a guy try to give me the same lecture the other night outside Pedro Cay.

Ganking? With my Lynx, really? LOL

All the people who are freaked out about privateering should actually try to capture a player trader for once. It's nowhere near as easy as they like to make it out. There are plenty of escape mechanisms to assist player traders, beyond even the obvious solution of having an escort.

Last night I spent a good few hours try to prey on those traders getting the last gasp of Compass Wood magic money between KPR and Pedro Cay... British escorts were out in full effect and completely prevented me from succeeding.

Despite that, I still had a TON OF FUN and a lot of PVP.

Getting your stuff is not at all what I'm interested in. I am interested in the challenge of trying to catch you.

@Alado

Was you ship for sale on pvp3 or pvp1? as I assume all ships on sale on pvp1 prior would not have changed. The merge term used is not really correct. It wasn't a merge as such, basically pvp3 was shut down, pvp1 remained the same (other than patch changes) and pvp3 players that have created new characters on pvp1 get their goods/ships etc as redeemable. But as said previously PVP3 players were warned to close any contracts and end all ship sails as those items would not be transferred as redeemable.

im in pvp1

Check Redeemable button in the main port screen

15000 and cutter

Thank you so much, admin. This is such a fun part of the game for some of us. There is no feeling like that of hunting man :D

Totally correct. Capturing a player trader is no piece of cake at all, it is ONLY a thousand times more fun and enticing than chasing placid cetaceans.

Patch 9.8 has no cetaceans or schools of fish. WORST PATCH EVER 0/10

:P :p :P

too much upgrades kill the upgrades? what do you mean?

I'd like to see some of the parameters included directly in the ships crafting, with some random parameters, following a bit what i explained here , on the principle,

or be able to decide from start if i want to craft a ship with light carriages and studding sails and not use upgrades for this but include those parameters directly at the ship crafting level.

And for some other upgrades i would like to see this being part of the crews/officers skills levels when it will be released.

And worst of all is those upgrades are based on luck for drops, get lucky and get a nice one get unlucky and get basic or nothing :/

So what's up with the Constitution being nerfed while all of the other ships I've been able to check got a buff?  I honestly doubt that capturing any port that has any sort of defense is going to be possible.  The Constitution lost about 18% of it's structure........boo hiss.

Because of all the whiners about YOU moving your cargo across map, so THEY cant "help" you unload it!  Its all about taking your stuff from you. Those players complained it just wasn't right that you could automatically take all that precious cargo, clear across the map, and they would never have a chance to take it from you.

Now, ... every body has to transit the oceans (no teleport with cargo) -- running the risk of losing that cargo to raiders. Plain and simple!

I see it as a good way to encourage more people to get out of their capitals and start actually playing the game.

constitution and ingermanland are still searching for their place between 3rd rates and standard frigates.. expect more changes in hp and planking for all vessels as well during tuning.

I also want to comment on how much I appreciate the Smuggler toggle. Not only does it allow anyone to take advantage of the "Pirate green on green exploit" to quickly TP ships around the map via Send to Outpost, but it allows traders a whole host of new options for how to conduct their business.

Very clever, unexpected and elegant. Just one of the many things I appreciate about these devs and their approach & outlook.

Can I get some clarication admin. Indian man bp is dropped from a trader or warship?

Rattlesnake is dropped of a brig or mercury build?

Clarification would much appreciated.

LGV drops the Indiaman

Brig drops the Rattlesnake

100% confirmed by players getting those drops

Constitution and Ingermanland were actually quite balanced before the patch, so what is your intention on nerfing the Structure of the constitution by such a huge amount?

I was really looking forward for the patch and having PB with a nice mix of Ingermanlands and Constitution. Now with this change it is Ingermanland or go home...

6900 structure down to 5700 structure for connie while the Ingermanland got more structure now.

I would expect that the Constitution still has far more armor  than the Ingermanland however.

Dont know what to frown upon more, the fact that after all this time you still didn't change you banners typo of "Vangaurd" or the fact that you like your own posts O.o :*

But yeah if you can trust players its already confirmed that Indiaman drops from Le gros and Rattlesnake from Brig

I don't really get all the spirited replies about attacking traders with the changes to teleport.  I'm not so sure people are going to dedicate all of their time to jumping from free port to free port to free port looking to attack other trading players.  That would seem quite boring and get old in less than a week.  Players looking to fight usually....well, look for a real fight.  Besides that you can't carry the large cargo you took unless you yourself take the trader to sail, in which case then you are at risk with a damaged ship in hand.  Or else you sink it, and then lose it all...for what?  A couple XP and to gloat?  Doesn't make sense and would get old fast.

I made millions trading, and I've only used the teleport to capital feature with goods 2 or 3 times, just for convenience to get somewhere else.  You trade where the price is right, not necessarily where the capital is, for building a ship.  And even if all that didn't pan out and it actually was a predictable route, take a look at the thread here about how traders use strategies to avoid being ganked, it's a strategy.  Might be a little harder now but oh well it's a game.

Check the armor thickness for yourself. ;)

Me and 2 friends went into a fleet battle with the intention to experience the new armour system.

We were in a bellona and 2 3rd rates, joined by an AI st Pavel, bellona and  a 3rd rate, and our fight went fairly well at first quickly dispatching 2 constitutions on the enemy team.

We then turned our attention to the enemy bellona, 2x ingermanland and 3rd rate and hell was unleashed.

Broadside after broadside was unleashed and 3/4 of our shots bounced. We weren't at an angle so that wasn't the issue. When a shot did penetrate the damage was minimal. I love the idea behind this system, but so far what it has achieved here is making battle ridiculously tedious. It's fine to have battles that last longer and having to put more thought into positioning, but when I'm alongside an enemy vessel and most of my shots bounce then there's something not quite right.

This was using 24pd and 18pd long cannons and 32pd cannonades, no matter what part of the hull we aimed at in a parallel broadside battle.

Capping player traders is far from a walk in the park, especially if you're sailing small vessels like the Lynx and Privateer. I find it far easier to win a 1v1 PVP battle against average opponents in roughly equivalent ships than I do to cap that same average player when he/she is in a fast trade ship.

And yes, the whole point is that IF you succeed (a maybe 10% chance in my case), then it is only right and proper that you personally sail the trade ship yourself - often with depleted sails / etc - back to the nearest friendly port, risking capture yourself. Hunter becomes hunted, that seems more than fair to me.

To say nothing of the escorts and patrols actively seeking you out while you hunt... it's all really quite good sport, if you ask me.

Try it, you might like it :)
