Battle instance icon and moderator's chat color issues

Recommended Posts

Captains, we have get reports that players are asking for the different colors for the mod chat color (dark green at the moment) and the crossed swords battle instance icon (white color at the moment) due to color blind and hard to spot issues.

Please suggest the visualisation that you think will be appropriate.

White is perfect for crossed swords battle.

What about a light blue ?

The point in having a color that mix with the blue of the sky and of the sea is indeed that it makes the icon a bit "harder" to spot if you lose your bearing / can't correctly use your compass. It adds a small difficulty, makes us use the compass, add a plus (a search) in the mission.

An another solution would be that the icon keeps its current color at long distance but would change for a more visible color only when the captain is nearby.

Or a darker color but a smaller size for the icon.

No fluorescent colors, please !

Just brighter green, like in steam for example.

moderator color change should be considered interim because the best color in the existing gray/blue UI might not be good later when the UI is redone possibly in a different color.  red and purple are terrible colors in the current UI but yellow and green are readable.  if colors are being adjusted I recommend also adjusting the purple color for mastercraft upgrades because it is very hard to read on the gray background (find a purple ship in the shop for an example).

for battle markers, depending on the weather and time of day sometimes the dark shadow of the marker is more visible than the marker itself.  orange would contrast well and make the marker highly visible (especially useful for mission markers which you need to be able to see from far away).  for battles in progress white is fine because you should be close to be able to see it clearly (within 2 minutes sail).  if technical limitations require both markers to be the same color then I am fine with orange or yellow for both.

Make Admiralty orders a dark green exclamation point, make battles dark red crossed swords, crossed cannons?

The current color for admin chat (gold) is good. For mods, perhaps dark blue? (To match their "moderator" tag in the forums?

I would vote for this.

For mods, a brighter Green or some kind of emblem next to there name would be fine so if they can't see the colour the emblem will let them know they are speaking to a mod etc

as for battles perhaps something similar Keep the Crossed swords as they are iconic. but add something ontop etc in a different colour

Best way is to give is them iconic emblems so they can recognise them without having to rely on colours to much however if you did use colours perhaps but  2 colours in for a wider chance to see em.

For examples:

And perhaps give it a glow of another colour so it helps with different times of day/weathers

Example:

There are different types of colour blindness so 2 Colours would be great so one colour will always be predominate regardless

My idea for crossed swords, should have different color depending if the battle is pvp or pve to avoid some confusions.

Will go with red and black in pvp and bright yellow and black in pve.

Thanks.

Mission markers need to be more visible the white is terrible as if the sun is coming up you can sail right by it.

I'l like it to be a flashing colour rather like a lighthouse but in say orange or something similar.
