Officially done with this game-Fix grind

Recommended Posts

Grinding has always been filler, a way to provide content where content simply doesn't exist. Over the years most MMORPG players have grown tired of grinding, we have done it for years and we are sick of it.

I enjoy this games combat, I enjoy the big battles, ect, but your ship progression, awful port battle mechinics, and nation balance issues have ruined the game for me.

I have put over 300 + hours into the game, have 2 accounts, and was ready to invest into this game for the long haul. This has changed since they decided to remove reinforcements from the game and are going to force us back into grinding missions or trying to find pvp.

I recently discovered the little reenforcement leveling trick 2 days ago when I moved to PVP1 over from PVP2. I left PVP2 because the server is dying, so many players have quit the game, and I was near ready to quit myself. Most of this is due to server nation imbalance, and the grind.

Moving over was a last attempt for me to stick w/this game. I joined STARS and was introduced to reinforcement grinding fleet trick. It was engaging, super fun, challenging, and rewarding. It made the game feel fresh again. Today when I got home from work I was super excited to play because I had been doing this content last 2 days and have found it very refreshing.

Imagine my surpise when I got home to discover reinforcements have been removed so now I must return to spending 30 mins to sail from port to point A, another 30 to do the mission, another 20 to get back to port for a new mission.

Thank you but no thank you, I have had enough of your PVE missions and won't be doing another. I'm sick of sailing around your awful slow Open world, sailing into the wind, looking for PVP that doesn't exist, to have everyone you find run away, and only fight when they have numbers. I'm sick of sailing around looking for crappy fleets that are few and far between. I work and I don't have time to spend 10+ hours on the game daily.

The ship grind has sent half of my friends list running from the game. People can defend it all they want, its awful, and in a PVP focused game, you simply can't have a long demanding grind, which leads to more power, and not have said grind kill off the player base. If you want proof look at darkfall.

Since the steam release so many people have been able to take short cuts, and so many on PVP1 have 1st rates, 2nds, 3rds, that its an injustice to force new players coming into the game to grind the crappy long route. You should of never had a grind to begin with, ships should of been based on money and econ, not levels, and the grind will kill the game as it has been doing since steam release.

I am uninstalling the game until the development time decides to do something about this rediculous grind, its not fun, its not content, and for the folks that work for a living and can't live on the game, its to much.....

Expect a bad review on steam from two accounts, I have also uninstalled this game.

*Ridiculous

That's a very childish view of life.

"I'm going to give a bad review because I didn't get everything I wanted".

Go LIE about how bad the game is because you bought a EA game TWICE. Cheers mate.

IMO, the grind is bad, but nothing unbearable (maybe for some) and allows us to "test" every step of the way.

It is unbearable, and no one wants to do it. If you want to make certain ships rare, make them rare due to resources required, money sink, ect, doing it by grinding runs people away. No one wants to play a Korean style grinder, certainly one where you spent an unreasonable amount of time staring at your screen doing nothing interesting as you watch your ship sail against the wind, in the fog, looking for an X that is hard to find, so you can get sub-par xp.

Ironically, now that reinforcements have been removed, I'm finding more PVP than ever.

My puny Privateer provides a much more credible threat to player traders, meaning their colleagues have a very real reason to escort them, meaning we all get more PVP.

I hope reinforcements never come back, the OW is much more interesting without them.

Sorry but I completely disagree. It wasn't a "trick". It was an exploit, plain and simple.

There are many captains that achieved Rear Admiral through doing the monotonous grind, not by using this "trick". So how is it fair to those that play the game as intended, when others who take shady shortcuts to achieve the end goal. If you need additional accounts to achieve something that you cannot with one, then you know you are doing something shady. Does it take a long time to level up? Yes. Is the grind a pain? Yes. Is it boring? Yes.

Suck it up, get your backside to pirate infested waters, and start sinking ships. THAT, is where you will get your fun.

How is this even comparable to a Korean style grinder? No where near that bad mate.

If you are bored with the missions, go do something else. It's a sandbox game, find something to do. If it's for the lack of content then go play something else until the content gets better. This is an EA game and we are here to play it, test it and give suggestions. We don't need a ultimatum of: Fix this right now or I'm leaving with my bad reviews...

I don't think the Dev cares about your reviews mate, they are here to make their game... Not please DirtyDiggler 100%

They don't have to fix things to please me, but they will have to decide if they want to continue with a niche game that will over the course of months have a very small player base or they want to appeal to a broader market and make money. There are plenty of niche games that are still around, with their small player bases, such as darkfall that I mentioned above.

I quit darkfall for the same reason back on darkfall 1 and have yet to return, as I have other grinder games, they are still around, lossing players, yet they will always retain that small player base which you seem to be apart of Yeti. I'm happy for you, the masses won't stick around, and in a few months they will need to either merge the servers or you will really be bored to death in a world this big that can only field 200-300 players at peak.

PVP2 is already getting to that point. Its not because the game is bad, its because there is no faction balance, and the grind is awful, there is also a big glaring lack of content. I hope it improves, if it does I may return. I left just sky of the xp needed for 350 crew, I have no desire to grind out 50k > 75k > 100k when getting to this point has already driven me mad.

Using the Alt Reinforcement exploit should have made your XP get removed. it was an exploit. Not a feature. Stop worrying about the grind and have fun.

Edit:

Holy crap this post makes me so mad. How long have people been abusing the crap out of this? My clan mates and I have known we could do this for a month + but none of us did it. We assumed it wasn't legal. Everyone who did this should have that XP removed.

It shouldn't be considered an exploit because it made the game fun. You were able to spawn a scary fleet of NPCs, that made PVE fun, and gave you great rewards. If larger ships you could get 5k xp from a single large battle, good gold, and the best thing of all was it was fun and made the game fun.

The normal missions and fleets are boring as heck, and to be honest most PVP encounters are boring as heck because no one fights unless they have numbers.  My normal missions in my Trin net me like 600xp and bore me to death, while wasting my time. In the same amount of time I could have fun, and gets 3 to 4 times the xp and gold from using reinforcements. Having done both, I refuse to go back to missions. This can make you mad, but before I discovered this I was already at the point of wanting to quit because of the grind. I am not the only one, because I left PVP i watched a lot of my friends list quit the game over the grind, look at my post like a month ago talking about the game is bleeding numbers, the game is going to continue on a downward spiral until they fix a lot of what is running people away, the grind is the biggest one.

Here is what alot of you fail to realize, this isn't about allowing everyone to sail a 1st rate quickly or anything of that nature. I am fine with making certain ships rare and limited, I'm also find with those ships being more powerful. But these ships shouldnt be hidden behind grind walls, they should be hidden behind other things such as rare resources, money ect....

You can make 1st rates rare without hiding them behind grind walls. They could very well hide them behind diplomacy, and crafting, which could make the game funnier.

Age of wushu had different factions which had school positions for players. One player on said faction had a chance to become the faction leader through a weekly PVP tournament. It was engaging, rewarding, and a system such as that could be used to not only add diplomacy and small battle based pvp into the game, but also fix the issue.

Add leadership roles among the factions, and then do it the same way age of wushu does it. Make certain ships require a leadership role to sail, allow the faction leader to be able to setup treaties, and do diplomacy among other nations.

Maybe you should go looking for a fight and actually engage. You don't need numbers to win. And regardless if you think its not an exploit, it was. Get over it. Ships arn't locked behind "grind walls". You can crew a victory at Flag captain. Flag captain is incredibly easy to get to.

If you want big exciting fights with many ships to fight, NPCs arn't the answer. Port battles are. They are fun. They are rewarding. They require teamwork. They are hard. You might sink. You were exploiting to get the rewards of a full port battle without any of the risks. Massive amounts of money and experience must have been had to sink 25 AI 3rds. Game breaking amounts. Now its gone and you've gone into your moms cupboard and gotten her bag of salt because your easy mode PvE game is gone.

If your going to quit, quit. Good riddance to people who arn't here to play the game and enjoy it. Just here to grind to santi and then think they are good. Go buy a gray frigate and go PvP. Sail around near a capital or any port that produces hemp/iron/oak. TDA comes to port royal every night. We fight them. We have fun. We get decent XP.

Maybe every ship needs maintenance cost

docking restrictions.

Crew costs

Cannon Costs

Food costs

Then SOLs will gravitate more towards more important battles rather than be used at every possible event.

Anyway threatening to leave the game because its not going your way is an age old tactic that never works. -_-

Actually I find the grind very doable. If you look at other PvP games earlier (bounty bay / VCO), you had to invest atleast 10x as much time to achieve something as in NA.

Anyways Dirtydiggler, please remember that this is an alpha version, which means you are allowed to test things. It isn't complete yet, and giving a negative rate because of imbalances is just.... too early?

IMO - Should have kept it, at least until they could of added alternatives...

The problem is the community is asking for content... This particular mechanic, like it or not, was very much enjoyable to EVERYONE who participates.

It was by no means easy to coordinate 10-15 players all different ranks / ship types in the first place, add 10-15 angry AI 3rd Rates & it was actually pretty difficult.

We lost ships...

The point being, this is not sail up to a stationary target and pound away. This is fighting the largest AI fleets that can be found in-game atm.

Not for XP... I'm Rear Admiral.

Not for gold... I have enough gold through econ and ship building.

But because I want LARGE SCALE BATTLES with all my friends...

It is a FANTASTIC training mechanic.

If there were AI fleets on the OS that consisted of 15+ 3rd Rates. Maybe even un-capturable 2nd & 1st Rates =)

I would say of course remove it...

Give us some EPIC fleets to hit... Just should not have removed it until an alternative PvE option was found and implemented.

Just hope they add something soon...

Playing this game since sea trials and no grind to be seen for me personally, sailing the ships and killing ai or people is the game, if playing the game is a grind then best stop playing games.

Very bored with all this whine that goes on from todays childish gamers, if you enjoy it great if you don't go find something you do enjoy, but spouting i wants and stamping feet is baby level attention seeking and if you are that young you should be colouring pictures, playing with dolls but not playing battle games!

Guess I'm the only one that missed out on this great "exploit" !

Oh well, back to the grind...

Bye.

nope i missed out on it too. alot of us have. it's an exploit and wasn't designed to work the way it was used. that'S clear and simple. concerning content , i agree. give the devs some time to create stuff. i am pretty sure they got the hint, since there r mose threads like this one on the forums.

You've probably never played War Thunder? The grind in that game is the worst I've seen.

I only have 2 or so hours to play each day so I do think the grind sucks but it's not that bad. It doesn't take long to gain xp and as you rank up you get it even faster so I'm ok with the leveling system at this point. Though I could find a few things that I don't like about this game, overall it's pretty good and fun.

Lol even War Thunder is an easy grind... compare to Wurm Online...

I find the grind in here is far sought.... but maybe some diversity on the missions.. in stead of the same old frigate. or 2 cerbs ... some variety in ships... or even an admirality order wich gives you some ai on your side and more ai on the opposing force... so you get a larger battle....  just spilling some ideas...
