  1. Best books about french ships are here : http://ancre.fr/en/ Really, really great ! written by a french specialist. Most are translated in english. Quite expensive, though. You may also find info at http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/3297-références-diverses-et-variées/ (most in french) PS : I'm french but part of my family are Aussies . And I play french.
  2. La réponse est là : http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/5403-ship-crew-sizes-ow-ranks/?hl=ranks
  3. You're welcome. That's also why I said "non separated" . By the way, there are official thread(s) about NA rules (forum and game). A quick search would do. However, your idea is interesting.
  4. Bienvenu. A +
  5. Not sure your trick helps in all situations. For example : you are far away from an outpost that stocks your fav ships. You lose your last dura. Back to a neutral port in a lynx. You have to teleport to your outpost to take one of your fav ships and : - sail back to the other side of the map, - or as you mentioned send your ship there with your trick. But in that last case, as a captain, you have to wait till the next teleport opportunity to get to your outpost. Besides, I talk about the ability of transferring several of your ships at a time. Am I wrong ?
  6. What about being able to transfer ships from one outpost to another ? It'd take about the same amount of OW time than say sailing in a straight line. There could also be probabilities of shipwreck or capture ; of losing upgrades, canons or part of the crew (because of loss in combat...), so transferring would be a bet and one could even have finally no transferred ship. However, it would facilitate changes in place of activity. It may be annoying to have your fav ship at the other end of the map (and none anymore where you are) and not being able to use her in the current area. It would be less annoying and time consuming to transfer a ship that way than to have to use tow request and sail her back. One could do things in the meantime. However, because of the sailing time of ship transfer, one would have to anticipate to have the desired ship in time.
  7. Here is a set of in-game rules (not separated, though) : http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/6289-be-a-pirate-teamkilling/?p=119510
  8. You're right : why not ? I won't complain anyway : any map would do to me. It's just that mixing a rather realistic map with made-up elements seems to me, a priori, a funny idea. It seems not to satisfy neither realism nor "fantasy". I'd rather see 2 juxtaposed maps or 2 maps linked by a teleport : one (at least) quite realistic (as the current Caribbean) and one made-up ; one for warfare and trade, the one for exploration ; one fixed, one that could be periodically changed ; one known, one Terra Incognita. Because, as I see it at the moment, after final release of the game, it'll be very difficult to explore in the middle of intensive naval combats and exploring the centre of something (ie the Caribbean), not the tip of it is a funny idea. However, as you wrote it, it has been discussed long ago and I may not see the whole picture, such as the fact that exploration may have to be linked to trade and that the Caribbean may be wide enough for 3000 players (whatever their activity : warfare, trade, exploration) or that exploration may not be a priority . So my comment may be of no interest.
  9. There were pirates and alike all around the world (e. g. in the mediterranean Sea). For that, you just need a boat and evil intentions.
  10. Do you really mean that the next dev stage regarding maps will be adding made-up islands in the middle of the Caribbean Sea and of the Gulf of Mexico, where it is "empty", to "fill in space" ?
  11. Where OW takes place doesn't really matter. Every seas, every oceans are beautiful. Every waters would do. What matter are beautiful landscapes, good physics, day and night cycle... We have all of them. Stating that the most epic XVIIth-XIXth century naval battles took place in Europe is a european vision !!! For example, the mediterranean Sea saw some epic battles and isn't only an european Sea. I hope someday we'll have other maps, all around the world (and maybe also Terra Incognita). It would add diversity and immersion. But, in the meantime, we can have fun with the Caribbean, a lot of fun !!!! Besides, the Caribbean is a concentrate of history between lots of nations (lots are european, btw...), naval warfare, exoticism, adventure... An "European"
Bon jeu.
  13. Maybe I am wrong but I think there's no teamkill between pirates. That is pirates can kill pirate fellows. That's a rule. Offensive langage is another matter, much more serious.
  14. So no big deal here... OP : quote from testers, if you wish to have a written record of what they posted. But please, delete what is not worth it. Small quotes are much better.
  15. However, testers can't change what you quote from their writings, can they ? (edit ) As a matter of fact, I never read the date of the last editing of a post. I don't have time. I think most people don't either. So a member can edit one of your previous post, I'll never know/pay attention. So if hidden edit privilege exist, it's no big deal to me.
  16. I don't "enjoy" slavery. Admin said : Slavery ? No way.
  17. Being the ship look-out at his post is right now the only on-deck activity while not in combat. To me, the trend should be in diversifying those on-deck activities, not automating the only one. However, the hail mechanism can surely be improved. When/if there are several on-deck activities sometime (navigation, exploring with spyglass...), I guess it could be great to have the ability to automate some at will (that is to delegate some tasks to the crew) in order to focus on others. In the meantime, there could be an option for the focus/hail mechanism : automatic or manual. I guess it is all a matter of boredom / activity in the OW : what will you do if you don't hail and steer ? Besides, right now, the test of the game focuses on combat. It is quite logical that the only on-deck activity is about combat. Just some thoughts on an interesting matter...
  18. An interesting thread about that : http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/380-musketmen-sharpshooters-swivel-guns/
  19. Perhaps, I didn't explain myself properly. When talking about "what kind of warning", I was referring to : - should he be officially warned ? (my point of view) - or should he be ganked all night long ?
  20. +1. Of course, he does. All the question is : "what kind of warning..." ?
  21. There are rules about profanity, among other things : http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/6023-open-world-behavior-and-chat-bans/?hl=profanity http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/2346-forum-and-sea-trials-rules/ Can't understand the logic of such an argument. If a guy doesn't break any rule, he shouldn't be punished... If a rule needs to be added to the official list, ask Game Labs to do it. That's grieving. Private justice... A game, as any fiction, convey values, RL values. One can pvp in a civilized context without promoting lynching, grieving and expeditious private justice. I guess it's no good keeping on arguing about that... Our views differ too much. Have a nice day, gentleman.
  22. I don't think so. That's being judge, jury and party of the same cause. It never works. What will the first offender's friends do ? Fight back. If he ain't a lonely wolf. That's not justice. That's vendetta. The law of the strongest, not of the fairest. Definitely not my values. And don't retort "In those days..." My opinion...
  23. +1. Really great RoE From a french captain. Can I freely sail through the dutch waters, if I introduced myself as a non-hostile explorer (whatever my rank is) ? I guess the situation could be exploited...
