Collisions, and Piping
Grim DeGrim replied to Windy's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
If I hear a whistle, I and I didn't change a sailing / gunnery / survial focus, then I know there is a potential collision. One whistle I believe is warning, 2 whistles very close proximitry. Or I dreamed that part...not sure. But yes. I use the whistles. -
lol, He sailed for France briefly as well. I cannot remember his handle then, I think it was Wolf MacDonnell.

You might enjoy he link I provided. Much of it is based out of Halifax, in terms of the telling of the history. -
FRANCE: The Auld Alliance
Grim DeGrim replied to Grim DeGrim's topic in Guilds, Clans and Trading companies
I will have to get Amphore to come on and make a post in French. We have 4 member so far, and 3 of them have french as their mother tongue. Je ne parle pas Français. That said, we are building this society to cater to both. We currently have "Coin des Francophone " as a sub forums on our site. Come to think on it, they are catering to me as I am the minority! lol You will find friends to speak French with -

http://www.blupete.com/Hist/NovaScotiaBk2/Part5/TOC.htm Some more info. Table of contents here, but chapters 2 & 3 are with respect to Privateering out of Nova Scotia (all along the seaboard, down into far south). Packet is also discussed herein. -
Please visit the Tribunal. We have our bad eggs A Captain cannot vote with out registering. A review the last 69 votes, looking for obvious made up emails associated with the account will confirm or reject fraud at the polls. Half those hits are mine (125,000).

Furthermore, the rate of change is 3 times that of the average. Smelly cheese. Edit: If legit, so be it... Just asking that a check be done. Edit Edit: I like salty soup... (miso soup)

I have no bias as the Dannebroge went out in round 1 (unfortunately). It is curious that a ship can go up 120% if votes in 1 week. Over one third of all new votes to a single ship. Note that existing ships have not gone down in votes, so that hypothesis does not hold true.

As they say in Internal Audit: if it looks like a cat, and it's got black spots, it is a Leopard. You might be scratching you had right now going "huh?". The point is this: if it is obvious that something is what it is, they's no need to second guess it. That jump in the HMS Indefatigable is outright bogus. Admin should step in and review immediately.

Improving Size of Trafalgar map
Grim DeGrim replied to PIerrick de Badas's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Make it half the size and we can finish in 1h. Lol, Nah, I'm all for making it bigger with random spawns. -
Whoops, name update: CrimsonWolf

He received his key today. And yes, it would be good to do a family unit! Granted, he's in a gaming clan and one of the main guy is from Sweden so who knows as I will sail for France.

Well done - a French Squadron in the Sea Lords Fleet will be a fine addition. Or are you saying a "fleet that fights for France"?

Universal Language Chat
Grim DeGrim replied to William the Drake's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
If symbols, at least make it flags. Even if the flag makes less sense (because it is historically referenced), you localize it in chat just like Henry said. Even the chat with the flag signal right beside it (err, left beside it). Kinda neat to add in the historic flag signals. -
Let's have forum moderator move you to Tribunal for judgment Joking! In 1 match, I ran over and sank 2 lynx on my own team (I was in a constitution)... The first, just bad luck: start of match, I had 15 month old "co-piloting" at the keyboard. I looked away to "intervene" with her using the mouse as a telephone (holding it up to her ear). When I looked back, a lynx had done a tack through the wind and was turning into mt path. The second: pure tunnel vision in midst of fight focusing down target in gun view, and the lynx and I collided (I honestly don't know how this one happened, but I certainly was not watching closely)! EDIT: I might have been in a Bellona, as this was really recent... SideStrafe was in the match, probably recorded. I took a SS of the end match with the 2 ships, zero dmg...

Fleets, Families and the Open World.
Grim DeGrim replied to BadVoodoo's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
My captain skills will include: whine making, and smelly cheese... And endurance for long walks on the beach! Grim. *Carryon, I got it out of my system. I do like the thread idea. Especially the motivation for surrender. -
Ofc no hard feeling I had to Google "potbs + gng" and that was the 2nd or 3rd hit... And then I seen my name! I always say a forum troll. But as you said, clean slate. I'm going the PVE route with these forums...

Fleets, Families and the Open World.
Grim DeGrim replied to BadVoodoo's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Sounds interesting. Most of which can be done without an avatar. Adds content. Maybe not sailing, but some peripheral depth for those into that kind of thing. I like the family Crest idea... -
I hear you the way it is simulated might not be representative, but crews DID have the ability to address damage to some extent while in battle. In our case, that limited ability is represented with 3 "repair kits".

Reminds me of the battle between the USS. Hornet and HMS Peacock: "In this position the Hornet kept up such a destructive fire, that, at 5 h. 50m., having her commander killed, six feet water in her hold, and her hull and masts cut to pieces, the Peacock hoisted in her fore-rigging an ensign with the union downwards, as a signal of distress. Shortly afterwards her mainmast went by the board. Both vessels were immediately anchored, and every exertion was used to save the Peacock; but the efforts of both crews were unavailing, and in a few minutes she sank in five fathoms water, carrying with her thirteen men, only four of whom were rescued." Even after capture, both crewed endeavoured to jointly save the ship.

I am less inclined on the idea to be honest. Imagine in the heart of battle trying to transfer sails, mast braces, planking, etc to another ship. Seems unlikely. My bigger concern, realism aside, is that it becomes a type of meta. Little fish (cutters) following the big fish (first rates) to provide an endless supply of repairs. Perhaps there are ways to mitigate this? I'm not against brainstorming the idea... After battle assistance could be an interesting reputation builder. Of course, it could have costs associated with it too. Financial. Your own stores being depleted for duration of the journey. Possibly crew injured. Even damage to your own ship in the process...

I've read of, after battles, where joint crews would endeavor to save a ship. But it was intensive and effectively disabled both ships 100% from all other activities. Not sure if that helps or hinders your post. I have some concerns it could be unbalanced. Eg, a cutter providing full reps to a victory. If the disabled time were an extended period of vulnerability, and reps scaled based on the ship size providing it, then it could be a possible implementation.
