  1. I also think that Trinconmalee should be improved (turn rate), same for Belle Poule and Essex (HP, armour). About Wasa, either her BR should be strongly increased, linked to future PB engagement rules, or the ship characteristics shall be sooner or later reduced.
  2. Taking into account above remarks, I made a lot of trials yesterday evening after our PB in Biloxi. The constraints were to keep the strongest BR to 650 and the weakest BR to 30 (for war ships), for not unbalancing other parts of the program and trying not to insert new bugs by error corrections or new setting… Among others, I tried Simple calculations based on HP, Armor, speed, masts turn rates and so on, Same using speed squared or power 3. Same using turn rate squared or power 3. Trying to introduce a factor for under crew (such as Indefatigable) Long test to try and balance with carronades for some ships Some test with thing I thought they should give stupid results (and proved to give it) Others… Most of them gave too big BR to 1st rates and none to schooners… Some was so “strange” that I will never recognize to have done it! LOL. At the end of the story, I went back to the previous file, replacing the Attack, Defense, Chasing and so on rates by the following, with target to make more a Port Battle Rating than an Open World Rating in which trading and recon capabilities should be highlighted. Max Attack Rate: 425 instead of 350 Max Defense Rate: 200 instead of 175 Max Chasing Rate: 30 instead of 100 Max Retreat Rate: 30 instead of 100 Max Transport Rate 0.001 instead of 50 This gives the following proposition: Lynx---------------------: BR 30 Cutter-------------------: BR 30 Privateer----------------: BR 40 Pickle-------------------: BR 60 Brig---------------------: BR 70 Prince de Neufchatel-----: BR 70 Snow---------------------: BR 50 Navy Brig----------------: BR 70 Rattlesnake Heavy--------: BR 90 Mercury------------------: BR 80 Mortar Brig--------------: BR 70 Niagara------------------: BR 70 Cerberus-----------------: BR 110 Renommee-----------------: BR 110 Surprise-----------------: BR 120 Hermione-----------------: BR 120 Frigate------------------: BR 140 Belle Poule--------------: BR 110 Pirate Frigate-----------: BR 160 Essex--------------------: BR 140 Trincomalee--------------: BR 150 Endymion-----------------: BR 180 Indefatigable------------: BR 170 Constitution-------------: BR 250 Agamemnon----------------: BR 260 Ingermanland-------------: BR 220 Wasa---------------------: BR 350 Wapen von Hamburg III----: BR 220 3rd Rate-----------------: BR 240 Bellona------------------: BR 370 St. Pavel----------------: BR 430 Bucentaure---------------: BR 490 Victory------------------: BR 550 L'Ocean------------------: BR 600 Santisima----------------: BR 650 Rookie Snow--------------: BR 10 Rookie Brig--------------: BR 10 Rattlesnake--------------: BR 60 Gun Boat-----------------: BR 40 Yacht--------------------: BR 40 Santa Cecilia------------: BR 150 Traders Lynx-------------: BR 40 Traders Cutter-----------: BR 30 Traders Brig-------------: BR 60 Traders Snow-------------: BR 50 Le Gros Ventre-----------: BR 90 Indiaman-----------------: BR 110 Basic Cutter-------------: BR 30 Additional remark: I suggest to modify some ships. The main parameters are in the "ships" folder. I hope this will help! New BR-01.xlsm
  3. That's another very good question! Today, all ships are similar in port battles, but tomorrow, I hope no for diversity benefits. I would personally prefer BR-count.
  4. That's true too indeed. Also differences in wood stuffing: fir-fir surprises with a lot of speed upgrades are common. Not the same for Santisimas! And what about the last Ocean I chased in a teak-teak Hermione, overloaded but with 3 speed upgrades, being obliged to through to the sea most of the cargo of the ship to be able to catch him... And getting this bloody message that my BR was not enough! So yes, and no for the yes because for sure the yes needs the no, BR issues are not so simple.
  5. It was not easy to balance the calculation sheet and each player particular skills have a great influence on the actual ship value (I just have to remember our last 1v1 to be sure of that). I won my last fight with my Surpr vs a Frig, but you were not in the Frigate... Same opinion for Connies. If there are several ships in fight, the broadside weight is more important, the speed is only important for tagging and keeping the enemy in battle, the turning ratio of an Endymion might make it. But a single BR should reflect all that. Surprises have the advantage of 4 stern chasers. This would pull you off a lot of traps. This is almost useless in big battles... For sure, arbitration will be difficult, and manual adjustment on the calculation results shall be necessary.
  6. To simplify the calculation, I used canons broadside weight. This avoids considerations on range and precision, even if my preference goes to using caronades with light frigates such Surprise.
  7. Several topics are questioning the applicable Battle Rates. Many parameters changed, being adjusted in patches, the apparition of new ships modified choices, etc. I’m trying here to give an hand for calculation of “new” Battle Rates, from these new parameters. Forgive me, but this message will be quite long and filed with a lot of formulas. Those who prefer to skip can directly go to conclusion. What is the Battle Rate? (in this proposal) The Battle Rate (BR) has several components: Attack Rate (AR), ability to make damages to the enemy Defensive Rate (DR), ability to sustain damages from the enemy Chasing Rate (CR), ability to tag using bow chasers without changing route Retreat Rate (RR), ability to fight in retreat using stern chasers without changing route Transport Rate (TR), ability to transport a lot of cargo, guns and repairs (with little impact on performances). These components don’t have the same importance, and coefficients will be applied to limit AR to 350, DR to 175, CR and RR to 100, TR to 50. And at the end BR= AR + DR + CR + RR + TR. Attack Rate (AR) Let’s consider that a ship is good for making damages if it has a good broadside, a good speed for coming on range, a good turn Rate. The broadside weight used here will be the canon broadside weight, considering this weapon as the most used by players. The Broadside Weight is squared because louder it is, shorter will be the fight, limiting the effect of enemy broadside. AttackRate= BroadsideWeight * BroadsideWeight * Speed * TurnRate / 143536 The coefficient 143536 comes to limit the biggest AR (Santisima) to 350. Undercrew factor for Trader Lynx, Trader Cutter, Trader Brig and Trader Snow reduce the rate of fire, reason why the AR for these ships is devided by 3 compared to others. Defense Rate (AR) Let’s consider that a ship is good for sustaining or avoiding damages if it has a good structure, a good armor, a good speed for coming off range and a good turn Rate to angle enemy shots. DefenseRate= SideStructure * SideArmor * Speed * TurnRate / 116492 The coefficient 116492 comes to limit the biggest DR (L’Ocean) to 175. Chasing Rate (CR) Let’s consider that a ship is good for tagging with bow chasers if it has a good bow chaser weight and a good speed for catching the enemy ship. ChasingRate= BowChaserWeight * Speed / 6.642 The coefficient 6.642 comes to limit the biggest CR (Wasa) to 100. Retreat Rate (RR) Let’s consider that a ship is good for retreating being protected by stern chasers if it has a good stern chaser weight and a good speed for escaping from the enemy ship. RetreatRate= SternChaserWeight * Speed / 4.957 The coefficient 4.957 comes to limit the biggest RR (Endymion) to 100. Transport Rate (TR) Let’s consider that a ship is good for transport if it has a good cargo capacity and a good speed. TranportRate= CargoCapacity * Speed / 928 The coefficient 928 comes to limit the biggest TR (Indiaman) to 50. Proposition for a new BR: This gives the same min/max rates than previously (BR 30 for Lynx, BR 650 for Santi), but this is I think more balanced: Lynx: BR 30 Cutter: BR 30 Privateer: BR 30 Pickle: BR 50 Brig: BR 80 Prince de Neufchatel: BR 110 Snow: BR 80 Navy Brig: BR 90 Rattlesnake Heavy: BR 90 Mercury: BR 70 Mortar Brig: BR 60 Niagara: BR 100 Cerberus: BR 120 Renommee: BR 130 Surprise: BR 170 Hermione: BR 150 Frigate: BR 140 Belle Poule: BR 120 Pirate Frigate: BR 160 Essex: BR 130 Trincomalee: BR 180 Endymion: BR 260 Indefatigable: BR 210 Constitution: BR 340 Agamemnon: BR 290 Ingermanland: BR 240 Wasa: BR 450 Wapen von Hamburg III: BR 290 3rd Rate: BR 240 Bellona: BR 380 St. Pavel: BR 410 Bucentaure: BR 460 Victory: BR 530 L'Ocean: BR 640 Santisima: BR 650 Rookie Snow: BR 10 Rookie Brig: BR 10 Rattlesnake: BR 70 Gun Boat: BR 60 Yacht: BR 30 Santa Cecilia: BR 170 Traders Lynx: BR 40 Traders Cutter: BR 30 Traders Brig: BR 100 Traders Snow: BR 80 Le Gros Ventre: BR 100 Indiaman: BR 170 Basic Cutter: BR 30 Remarks: Some results are unexpected. Among which, I propose an improvement of performance for the Belle Poule (confirmed here why it is so few used by players), Same for Essex. The 4th rate Wasa is better than the 3rd Rate Bellona. The Prince de Neufchatel seems to be over performing too. Something should be done for more differences between Trader Brig and Le Gros Ventre. Hope this will help and not hurt anybody’s favorite ships. This are just calculating figures which don’t take into account human factor. Artificial Intelligence is in development but not yet the Artificial Emotions! The Excel File is given in attachment, for those who want to make their own opinion. New BR.xlsm
  8. It was too late for me tonight, I hope to be there next time. And I hope that both red and green sides had fun!
  9. For me, it is so simple: Just linked to a proper use of the double ball perk. Either players get it or not, and I'd like to PvP against or with them, or not. Players using the double ball perk are those you find easily around free towns. And from time to time, they find me in a light frigate, escorting two traders.
  10. No. I am telling that obliging PvP to be also something else than ganking only is a good thing. My traders are most of times outside safe areas, because more profit can be done that way. Young or new players need learning areas. Before finding by themselves that staying in safe areas is not the best way.
  11. Before safety zone implementation, most PvP around our capital was trader ganking (not so fun for real PvP players), followed by defense fleet reaction (endless pursuit of rapid gankers by a bigger or equal fleet). Giving no real PvP because gankers always refuse combat if they don't have a double power to their opponents. They just go to the nearest free port or below their forts. This is why safe zones are necessary. They might have to be adjusted, but not removed. Ganking a Rear Admiral sailing in trader brigs with 4 Surprises, one Renommee and 2 Wasa is not PvP.
  12. There's at least one thing that most should find good in the Swedish team: in spite of a recurring legend, Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte, aka Charles XIV Jean, was not an EDR.
  13. Locked in the Paris traffic jams, I ever tried and shoot a broadside through the town hall. Unfortunately, the masts of my Belle Poule are too high for sailing below the Seine River bridges. Main reason why I was obliged to renounce to do it.
  14. I do not report something that was told me, but something I saw. The fleet was first signaled by DesMoines: they were chasing him from Guaya to the South. Then, they were signaled in El Toco, and as I was sailing to there with my traders, I placed my second French account "Eleazar" in the straits of Puerto de España after having docked my main account "somewhere". I saw this fleet. They chased me, Swedes, Danes and Pirates. As I was in a Trader Lynx, I went on scouting them. This "allied" fleet was finally intercepted by a French fleet in the straits (including DesMoines, Fofopicole et several others). The biggest ships in both parts were Wasa's. French won the fight, and the allies were sent back to Guayaguayare, where they arrived in small groups. Several losses, I think in both sides. I was in a trader Lynx, I did not find a reason to enter in fight, so that I don't have screen shots. The fight was Pirates vs Frenchs. Again, no one complains about it! We had fun! This is a PvP server!
  15. Yes! Let’s come back to the topic. And let’s do it in English (for information, the same topic was open in the French part of the forum, telling the same things by the same guys and for the same reasons) First of all, I agree with my beloved Jeanne de Belleville: EDR’s are not pretty boys! Especially after being insulted and bashed up so much in above messages… For summarizing, without going back to stories and legends that were not told me by my Grand Mother (she was too young at that moment): Did EDR’s fight against Brits and made screening in Santa Marta? Yes. Did EDR’s fight with Brits and made screening in the east of Louisiana? Yes. Do they have authorization to ask to Danes for that? No. Did Danes attack French’s at a daily rate, even before that, in FR? Yes. Did French complain? No Did Danes made screening for Sweedes during the la Desirade Port Battle two weeks ago? I am sure of it, they attacked me. Did French complain? No Did Swedes, Danes and Pirates joined their forces last Saturday to make an allied fleet which sailed from Guayaguayare to Puerto de España and attach Frenchs? Yes Did French complain? No Was I attacked by a Dutch player since we made screening for them? Yes Was I attacked by a British player since we made screening for them? Yes Do Brits and Dutchs have authorization to ask to Danes for that? No. Did I attack a British player yesterday? Yes Do I have authorization to ask to Danes for that? No. If concerns exist about that, with whom do I have to solve it? With relevant British players. Summarizing the last answers made in French: What is reproached to EDR by these French Renegades? To exist. Do we have authorization to ask to Danes or others for that? No. Will I ask to my Grand Mother to explain me more what was existing before the previous period occurring far before the map wipe reset before the asset wipe? No, she does not remember and Methuselah refuses to take the time to tell her all the story (he has no much time by now, he got a new girl-friend!) Is it worth remembering that? No. Let’s have a look in the future: Are EDR’s negotiating something with Brits, Danes, Swede, Dutch, US, Pirates or Spanish clans? Not to be disclosed here. Do they have authorization to ask to Danes or others for that? No. Hoping this clarifies this useless debate... I love you too!
  16. Port Battles are quite repetitive and I can here on the TeamSpeak more and more players telling that they do not want to do RvR anymore because it is “always the same”. Always 25 x 1st rates (some obliged to use Oceans or preferring her, some using Victories if their nation allows it, battle marks obliged) or 25 x 4th rates (most Wasa’s by now, awaiting remaining Agamemnon’s to be sunk or burnt) Or 25 Heavy-Rattlesnakes or Mercuries (also depending on Nations CM’s) for shallow waters. I would suggest a BR limit for Port Battle, this limit being a consequence of the tax recoveries during the last 2 weeks. So that important ports would have a BR limit of 16,250 (25 Santi’s), less important could decrease to 500 (25 Lynx, yes!) if no tax came from. This would create a lot of variety in Port Battles: Would I prefer 25 Bellona’s or 16 Ocean’s when the PB limit is 100,000? Or a mixture including some 1t rates, some 2nd and 3rd rates and some frigates?... What will be my strategy? What’s about enemy choices? Hoping that would help…
  17. Agreed. There's a French proverb: "Art is difficult, art critic is easy".
  18. Launched in France on January 16th, 1794. Captured by HMS Inconstant in April 20th, 1796 and renamed HMS Surprise.
  19. Agreed. Thanks Please remember what is a screen battle, in particular what are the objectives of a screen battle. Could you take the port ? No. You could not event enter the port battle! The screen main target was achieved. And as often in screen battles, at an accepted high cost. Thanks for the comment, but EDR is not the only French clan who tries and moves. Translation of the answer made by Kierrip de Badas in the French Language forum: "EDR’s do not intend to stop playing and they will not be submitted to wishes from any particular player or any particular Guild. We are free, independent and masters of our destiny. We will have regards to decisions taken by the nation. Without organization of the French nation, we will act to give PvP the Guild players. The PvP is one of the aspects of the game and we intend to allow everyone enjoying 100% of Naval Action. Your threats are slipping on us like water on our bows. I am a EDR, Captain of the King of France, I come from the sea and I go to the sea. The captains of the King, my master, shall never be intimidated." ...ooOoo... This topic of the forum is neither positive, nor constructive. Most of French players answering (and trolling) here are French captains enlisted in other nations... EDR's are kindly asked to stop answering here. @admin please close this topic. Éléazar de Damas Officer of the EDR Clan (and proud to be so).
  20. My "Magic Moments"... Including a tribute to the American Country Music Festival.
  21. Being a trader, and most of times when my fleet is not outnumbered by a gang, being an "offensive" trader who doesn't simply stays in protected areas, I must say that developping real profit challenges would be a nice solution to develop PvP. Including profitable trade lines and so escorts, corsairs, interception fleets, fun.
  22. Production is very low in level 1, and players can have 5 buildings only. This gives a strong limit to this solution, but with necessary adaptations, why not?
  23. It's just about griteria to lead them when frack to Bance. Sorry, when back to France. I proposed to bo it, when havong brunk enough. Sorry, when having drenk unough. Sorry, can't tell it properly. I've to drink something...
  24. Sorry Kierrip, not fortresses! Castles in the air only.
  25. MDR. Quand vous reviendrez, z'essayerai de drouver un goin de zigzag bour bostuillonner. Bardon, pour bostouiller. Non, pour bostuller. J'arrive bas à le dire, faut que j'aille boire un coup.
