  1. Sorry for misunderstanding what you were saying. I read that as you thought the russians did not have over 20 1st rates. If what you said was true that they also had 20 outside then it seems the russians have a fleet that is rather huge because if they have that much on the east side of the map and what i have seen on the west side it is a scary thought of what they could do if they use the raid mechanics to weaken potential targets. I dont have any real access to what the dutch are up to besides the occasional one that shows up to destroy traders. So my appologies as my view is that while britain may have a population near what russia does, i have yet to see anything that would stand against the proposed fleet size of this ai raiding fleet.
  2. Now this is down right comical, some raider is complaining that he cant camp outside of a port and rape any traders that undock because they hope back into port. Seriously Greg, is your need to club something that is far weaker so important to your ego that you have to request that the developers add something to assist you. Wow, just wow.
  3. Actually it would require both a coding change and a alter table change to the database.
  4. Has anyone realized yet that in order to remove or change the port bonuses it (to be fair) would also trigger a ship wipe. Without wiping out existing ships that have the bonus by removing the bonus you would compound the very thing you are complaining about now. Remove the bonuses without removing the ships there will be a very small chance to defeat these 14.5+ kt wasa's that have been floating around recently. So as it was stated before, be careful what you wish for.
  5. Port Battle for Cartagena de Indias last wendsday, Sorry I miscounted, there are only 19 1st rates there. So before you accuse someone of something, you might want to actually check your facts before it makes you look stupid.
  6. What is going to really suck is when nations start using the Raid as a tool to attack with. While Russia seems to be able to field 20 first rates, i doubt any other nation has the capability to at this time. That is going to make this new feature more of a stake through the heart than something to generate content.
  7. My guess is that once the port is captured it loses one level of each improvement, this will drop that port from the highest developed port position until it is recaptured and built back up again. While this idea sounds interesting, fielding 2 large groups of first rates to do it might be a bit much for some to be able to defend against, this is compounded by inviting hostile nations to participate by preventing the defenders from being able to engage the raiders. GB for instance is already losing ground due to the constant daily raids and now we have to worry that a fleet of 20 1st rates are going to sail in and take the port making it open for anyone to capture it during the night. I don't think this new feature was fully thought out on just how it will impact some nations.
  8. Also, while I understand that yes this will give the solo / small clans some equal footing towards fielding ships that have a chance, but what is preventing the solo / small clans from just contacting a clan that has access to the shipyards and purchasing the ships?
  9. What about the reverse of the situation. Say a clan does some action that is against the nation (like aiding the enemy or opening a port near the shipyard port). What is to prevent them from continuing to use the port?
  10. If they are modules, like upgrades that may allow someone to capture extra ones.
  11. It would be interesting if the Loki rune disguised you as a different nation. Imagine the chaos that would cause.
  12. But why give them pinpoint locations of where the battle is? Within a battle the sextant does not work, but this will in effect.
  13. And that is the point. The sheep will remain clueless to threats around them while the wolves will get a radar to use to find either each other to join in or those that are hunting them. It is already difficult for some nations to gather resources (money, materials, etc) why make it even easier to choke them further? Last I checked (though it has been a little while) this game was not listed as a strictly pvp game set in the age of sail, there is an expectation of other ways to play the game besides pvp. Those other ways are being sacrificed to aid and feed the pvp side of the game. I am not trying to rain on anyone's parade towards pvp, but I do draw issue when one group is being used to feed another one by making their way of play much harder.
  14. Ships Logbook - if there were so many people complaining about the GPS ability of the sextant....you might want to reconsider an item that is a 100km radius radar of the location of other players. Unless your goal is to help the gankers wipe out more traders and avoid any hunters that are active in the area. i.e. a very one sided item that lack any kind of balance to the community as a whole.
  15. I think the issue stems from a lot of things changing in the past to the point of making some guides completely wrong. Since things were changing and being very unstable the drive to update the guides changed to one of wait until they are done, then write something. The problem is that they are finally done (i think) but the writers of the guide may have moved on.
  16. If you left france to just turn around and some back and blockade the ports, then you are exactly what i described and not amount of excuses will distract from that. I witnessed this kind of bullcrap when VCO left the US to join britain and then try to turn britain against the US. Just to watch it repeated once again when they left for the pirates..rinse and repeat and I am sure they are not the only clan to do the same maneuver and still people wonder why the server population is declining.
  17. Burgandy, while I sympathize with your situation because britain has been dealing with the same kind of attitude from an ex british clan, I know it is just part of the game and has been for quite a few years now and is NOT going to change. While this game has many respectful players it is balanced in the fact that it also has many players who have the mental capacity of a 3 year old who didnt get that shiny little toy they wanted. These knuckedraggers are a pain to deal with and are frustrating but they are not going away anytime soon because neither the admins or the community feel any obligation to remove or curtail the activities of these players. I think by now just about every nation has had to tolerate them and they follow the same pattern every time, they join a nation due to an issue with the prior one, they try to rally the nation against their former nation, it fails, so they switch and repeat the process. This pattern will continue until either of two things occur, they find a group that is similar in mind and both groups then begin bullying weaker players to farm marks or they dont find someone and move on until there is no nations left that will tolerate them (a very long process that could take 5 years to reach).
  18. Going after AI and going after a player I doubt is different to the coding. So unless the devs want to add a timer for when the battle is vs ai then PVE and PVP will continue to use the same timer and that means that in any battle you will have to deal with the possibility of getting ganked by a large force. It would be nice if there were different timers so that low level players could go after an ai and gain some experience without having to worry about some knuckledragger deciding to join in a wasa.
  19. The problem with not using port ownership as a basis for getting a vote is that it didnt work last time. It was viewed as too easy using alts to manipulate the votes and, at least on pvp2, some groups (pirates) complained because the 2 larger nations banded together to fight them. Granted this actually helped keep things in balance and stopped the pirates from sweeping across the map. The pirates still complained about it with claims of it was reducing the amount of pvp (there was more pvp still going on then there is currently).
  20. The invisibility lasts for only about 30 seconds, this can be decreased if you are unfortunate enough to encounter lag upon entering open world. In addition, there has been a reported issue that the first time you enter a battle or open world you will encounter a delay. I have not heard of this occurring more than once but it is not beyond the realm of possibility.
  21. I think the mechanic changed from having more ships in a circle to completely controlling a circle to combat the doing a port battle in small ships vs large ones. With the smaller ships usually having more ships on the field they could have a majority of ships and just sail around in circles avoiding the large ships. This change occurred over a year ago after a group entered a deep water PB in nothing larger than princes and sailed circles around the larger ships. While the PB did not have many large ships due to BR limits there were over 20 small ships making it easy to cap the circles simply because they could put more ships in the circles.
  22. To bad that the enemy constantly brings friends in bigger ship no matter how much you try to build up they are able to build up faster. Just ask anyone trying to get out of KPR and getting constantly attacked. It is difficult to leave a port to set up somewhere else when the only outpost you have is KPR and you cant even get more then 20k from the port without getting ganked. No new player is going to be able to get a ship that will be able to outrun these raiders showing up in 15kt snows. The game needs to change, not the tactics used by the new players. They are limited in what they have access to and I think the veteran players have either lost perspective on what that is like or (more likely) prefer it so they have easy kills for those pvp missions.
  23. Why destroy the improvements to get back at one clan? If a clan caused you so much trouble and can not be trusted just remove them from the friends list. That will remove all access to any improvements the port grants. Destroying the improvements instead means that your intention is to actually weaken all clans that have access to the port unless they cough up the materials to rebuild the improvements. I think the best option in that case (since they would need to produce and ship in the materials anyway) would be to just go improve some other port that they either control directly or have a good relationship with the owning clan.
