  1. Actually no it isn't. The Constitution (and what is now called the USS United States) were originally 4th rate ships that were "Promoted" to 3rd rate for some undisclosed reason that still baffles some players. The Constitution is a wonderful ship if you know manual sailing well. She only has about 2800 points of damage output on a broadside which places her weaker than all but one 4th rate. So a few still feel that she should have remained a 4th rate as she was the trade off of reduced damage to having more damage absorption. So if she was still a 4th rate then yes you could call it a trade off, but since she was reclassified as a 3rd rate with little adjustment to put her on equal level with other 3rd rates then no, it was not a trade off, it was a way to reduce the amount of usage of the vessel since for 90 more BR you can get a ship that has as much side armor and twice the firepower.
  2. Considering you are describing things that do not exist in the game how am I being dense? If you mean the remote camera view, then describe it as that, otherwise chose better words to illustrate what you are trying to convey. On a different area, I hear that now forts have a longer range than the mortar brig, if this is true then the mortar brig is about worthless now as in order for it to defeat a tower a mortar brig has to take constant damage or have another ship draw the aggro. Neither approach is good and makes little sense. It is not like the mortar brig is a strong candidate for ship vs ship combat in a port battle. It primarily has a single function, destroy static defenses. Now that task has been effectively taken away since i am pretty sure that mortar brig vs tower the tower would win (taking into account rate of fire and accuracy)
  3. isnt the constitution 15100 vs the 3rd rate at 15000? And the constitution has 2823 damage output vs 3rd rate's 4169. Turn rate is 2.2 vs 2.2 Still wonder why they are asking for the Constitution to be tweeked a little. It is a 3rd rate ship that has about half the firepower of any other 3rd rate.
  4. Just in clear up any questions: Capn Rocko is a Sverige / Flaggkapten / 11/22/2016 Greasy is a Pirate / Raider / 1/19/2016
  5. My guess is that they were ports that had the option for the building pre release but it was not corrected when the building option was removed.
  6. The academy is a cheaper way to go once it is built (1M reals) as then it only costs about 8000 reals and some time fishing to build a contract, it is getting past coughing up the million plus a build slot that may cause some pause.
  7. So you are saying that Greasy attacked and sank bwa bwandais or just looted bwa after he sank (just to be clear). If Capt Rocko attacked Jorge Boisseau I would think that would classify as green on green regardless if it is an ai or a player. As for getting you involved in a battle, it sucks that he tricked you, but in the end it was your choice to join, live and learn. I don't think there are any rules in place currently pertaining to this type of action. The reason may be that it is near impossible to prove without a video of the encounter as a screenshot would not provide enough evidence.
  8. Short of buying the Herc and Requin, the other DLC ships I think are really not worth the price they are asking for it. $40 for the Ratt?, a ship that will get squashed by over 60% of the other ships in its class (without bonuses). The only reason to get it would be to have a fast response 4th rate, and even then it is a hard push.
  9. Nakomuro, could you provide details on what actually occurred? Did one join the fight on your side and not engage or did he shoot at you?
  10. The only real plus to the DLC ships is as Stalememes said, you can redeem them in any port. That is it. You can say "with the proper upgrades" this and that and all you're doing is adding variables. Any ship can be a "beast' with the proper upgrades, but apply the same upgrades on a crafted ship and it will beat a herc. So the end result is that the DLC's are good for fast response ships without having to use a tow to get a ship to a particular port. And even then, chances are you will be stuck using medium guns as most of the DLC ships are viewed as throwaways to respond or harass someone who has entered your nations waters.
  11. I still dont see how the herc 'rule' the small ship battles. Against maybe 6th and 7th rates maybe, but put against anything other than a Cerb and the herc will lose. Granted this is going straight by the stats of the ships since operator skill can not be factored in and should not be included in the comparison. A herc with live oak / white oak still has a weaker side armor than any other 5th rate vessel.
  12. As i said before, if you are invading you do not get to dictate the tactics being used by the people defending their area. First, with the comment of i can apply it, grow the hell up. You sailed a slow ship into hostile waters and got bested by someone who actually knows how to harass an intruder. Learn from it and as KOC and Wraith said, get a faster ship and stop being so butt hurt because of your own poor planning.
  13. You claim that i am assuming that the requin is doing a delay action waiting for other ships to arrive or at the very least is attempting to determine what cannons are onboard the Trinc. You are equally guilty of assuming that the requin is only engaging to grief the trinc. Since we have only the one picture to go off of lets examine a few things and make a few more assumptions. 1. It is already 15 min into the battle and both are sitting there with their sails down, this would suggest that this is not the first engagement as the OP has stated. Does not prove either theory. 2. There is no damage to either the trinc's hull or sails at the time of the image and the trinc is 16 seconds from being able to leave. So this may suggest that the requin is only doing minimal damage (most likely from the front guns) to keep the trinc held in battle. Does not prove either theory. 3. OP stated that one option they tried was to log off at sea, this would suggest that either the trinc was very far from shore or was in enemy waters and no accessible port was in range. This could be either as well but I would lean towards the trinc was the invader since if the requin was in hostile water it would be better to avoid heavy frigates and continue raiding. Add to this that since the OP never indicated that he called for assistance this would further support the idea that the trinc was the invader. End Result: When you invade a hostile nation, dont bitch about the tactics they use to gain the advantage. This includes delay tactics waiting for a larger ship to come deal with you. Demanding that the enemy close and fight you close quarters is pathetic. Cheeky tried that crap with me when he attacked me at a friendly port, it didnt work then, I dont see it ever working in the future with anyone. No one has the right to guilt someone into playing the game in a manner they do not chose. You want to fight close quarters, get a faster ship or suck it up buttercup.
  14. Firing at a target last i checked by definition is engaging. Just because the requin is not being stupid enough to get into a broadside to broadside duel is not sufficient ground to call foul. You run a 100% carro load, expect to get ranged to death. It is the choice you make for being able to maul something at point blank range.
  15. Ok, looked at the image, OP was in a Trinc and was engaged by a Requin. No issue there. Requin is firing at the Trinc - thus he is engaging. Trinc has forward guns, but if he was stupid enough to put carro's there then he has no right to complain because someone figured it out. If the Trinc has mediums or longs then at that range he should fire back. Results: Nothing in that image warrants a tribunal. It seems that the Trinc chose a weapon configuration that was not able to deal with a target that was able to stay out of it's range. Chances are the requin was ascertaining if in fact the trinc was a 100% carro configuration.
  16. Ok, maybe I am missing something here. Once battle is started if no hits are achieved either side can leave after what...2 min? After you have 30 seconds of invisibility and heightened speed to get a fair distance from the annoyance. I can see using the tactic in a couple of situations, 1. to hold an intruding vessel (such as outside KPR) so that a defensive fleet or group can get organized to destroy the ship and 2. To intercept an approaching port battle fleet and keep it occupied. The thing is, if no hits are achieved then either side can exit in 2 min or so. If you are being kept in battle past 2 min, it is because you are taking pot shots at him. Am I incorrect in this? If he is not firing at you and you do not fire at him then about 90 seconds later you can exit. What is the issue? If you are staying in battle trying to squash the little bug and he is there to delay you until a fleet arrives to kill you than you are making his mission a success. Sometimes the best tactics are the ones that use the opponents ego against himself.
  17. I still vote to remove the 3 "impossible" nations as their concept no longer fits into the current game mechanics.
  18. in addition to what Wraith pointed out, there is also the fairly large amount of coding that would have to be created to determine the loot gained by raiding a port, making database changes upon completion to how many accounts, some of which might be in the process of trying to evacuate the port being raided. Add to that the assessed damage dealt to the port and if ships are to be considered up for capture by the raiding party...etc..etc..etc... Unlike your internet, it is not fixed by just "flipping a switch" (note: that isn't either but many ignorant people think so)
  19. So in an off handed way, punish those families that play together. At the very least discriminate against them and since they do not have your little star they will be viewed as a spy/alt/traitor/general piece of Slime. It seems that you feel that alts have no useful function and instead are only used for nefarious means. How wonderfully near sighted of you. What about alts that are used just for additional storage, or as a trade ship that the main account can escort (since it seems finding escorts sometimes is like pulling teeth). What about a dedicated crafter so that perk points do not have to be constantly reset, or a mortar brig operator for the same reason (that 400 gold gets expensive over time). Not every alt is a fricken problem just the same as every alt is not benign. Accept the fact that there is no way to punish the malicious a-holes who use alts to disrupt the game without equally punishing those that do not. Think of the community as a whole, not just yourself.
  20. While this may be true and I agree that they should not be the best in class, but it is not going to do much for sales when it becomes widely known that they are the weakest in class and not worth the same price you pay for the entire game. So getting what you paid for, that is seriously debatable since many purchased the Hercules and then it was cut to ribbons in capabilities because a few people whined about it. Just to put things in perspective. Hercules - Side armor is half of the average of the 5th rates. (about 500 less in side armor then the next ship in the list). Even a Live Oak/White Oak will not even it out with the next in line. Pandora - same firepower as a Renommee but has only 83% of the side armor and less speed and turn. The 2pd cannons are nearly worthless due to placement and unless shut off, will disrupt aiming of other cannons. Rattvisan - the only odd ball of the bunch as it is not the weakest of its class (by 74 points) in side armor and is only slightly stronger than a Indefatigable on damage output. Le Requin - the only other ship that is not the weakest of class by side armor but it does have other limitations but is still about the best of the DLC ships i have tested so far.
  21. 1. The DLC ships do not get port bonuses at all. 2. The DLC ships are also the weakest in their class. 3. The only advantage the DLC ships have is that they can be redeemed anywhere.
  22. oh and by the way, the final exam the cerb's DO have a rather large supply of double shot and none of the perks you have are active. (after capturing one he had doubleshot loaded)
  23. The 2 fleet perks are 10 points, which means you will not have enough for even hold optimization or sextant. So the best you will be able to do is have 3 ships maximum with 6 points remaining.
  24. unfortunately they did away with officers in favor of perks. I guess too many people complained about losing the officer in battle and having to train a new one.
