Slightly disgruntled customer waiting for a key

I'm having my men load my cannons with tissue boxes as we speak. Don't worry, they will be delivered as soon as you get your key. -
Arms of Chaos - Pirate Court
Thomas Blackwell replied to Thomas Blackwell's topic in Guilds, Clans and Trading companies
Cheers! There are a number of clans now, started by enthusiastic captains across the globe. It's a great way to establish groups of people by nationality/language/interests/gameplay/etc. Which will later lead to strong cores of different yet similar people willing to provide experienced help and guidance for those in need of it. With luck, we will have a selection of clans for each major nationality (both in-game and out) ready to set sail as soon as the Guilds are launched.- 38 replies

Arms of Chaos - Pirate Court
Thomas Blackwell replied to Thomas Blackwell's topic in Guilds, Clans and Trading companies
We don't yet know quite how the clan/guild system is going to work. For all we know it will be impossible to have a clan of 'pirates'. If this is the case, traders are always welcome. Especially if they have no intentions of paying port fees. Once the Caribbean and South American coast opens up, we will probably be spending a lot of time with the Spaniards and the Americans both. Whether as friends or enemies is yet to be established and will probably be done on an individual basis as our Clan has no real 'core leadership'. Every nation needs smugglers, mercenaries, and privateers. Many of our members will be only too happy to provide this service... for the right price, of course.- 38 replies

Ahoy matey. May fortune smile upon you and your ship, though it shall do little good should we ever find ourselves at odds. -
I would have said 'Got Wood?' My suggestions: 'I See Your Balls' and 'I fought In Trafalgar'

Repair mode / Long term repairs
Thomas Blackwell replied to StaleMemes's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Any 'mode' that removes repair kits gets a +1 from me. However, if repair kits are removed, smaller ships should get an increase in their armor values. -
As I said in another thread, oh glorious were the days I could go to war, fight yardarm to yardarm with another ship, strike my colors, join the enemy officers and captain for dinner before turning in for an early night.

Whaling
Thomas Blackwell replied to Devante del Nero's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Devs have said that they will not be adding whaling into NA, and to be fair I can understand why. Though it was a large practice in the late 1700's to early 1800's, it is a topic of strong controversy today. The developers are probably concerned with getting thousands of letters from angry Greenpeace supporters. Perhaps the trade of whale byproducts like oil, but the actual act of whaling I think opens the door to conservationists with nothing better to do then cause problems for a small group of gamers. -
I see what you did here, and I like it.

I edited the title as it was too long and slightly distasteful. I'm sorry to hear you're upset, but look forward to meeting you upon the waves when you do finally get out to sea.

This game is unique, and thus so is my username. I go by Fancy Tom in almost all of my videogames, however Thomas Blackwell is the name I chose for NA.
-
Do not be disheartened by the sparse look of NA's current interface. It serves its purpose for now, and allows the Developers time to focus on aspects of the game that really matter.

I like the Lynx, but that ad makes me cringe. "The British knew the prowess of her kind, and respected it" Yeah, they liked it so much they captured it.

Alas, who was your father? I shall carve a headstone for the both of you.

The Pirate Ship: Hot Rods of the Age of Sail
Thomas Blackwell replied to William the Drake's topic in Shipyard
I seem to recall a documentary on the Queen Anne's Revenge. It stated that the guns on some pirate vessels were a collection of mix-and-match, due to the pirates lack of accessibility to guns of the same caliber. The Queen Anne's Revenge was supposed to have had a number of differently weighted guns aboard. In my mind the common pirate had to make do with what he was given, especially as he often did not have access to the shipyards and resources of the Navy, privateers nor even merchants. -
It doesn't really matter whether you are a writer, a role-player, or someone like me who's just got too much time on his hands. I'm willing to bet there are others out there who have been working on back stories and lore regarding the ships they will eventually be able to sail in Naval Action. This thread is a place for such people to share those stories. Perhaps you worked your way up through the ranks of a nations navy until you were given the command of a mighty frigate, or perhaps you are a merchant turned pirate. What ever the tale, lets hear it! HMS Bermuda HMS Bermuda was a 14 gun brig-sloop named after the country in which she was first laid down. She was sold into the Royal Navy in 1795 but saw little action during her short career. While on a cruise in the Gulf of Florida, she sighted a strange vessel and began her pursuit. By mid-afternoon she had caught the vessel and lay in along side. The vessel; an American merchant of six guns and twenty men was quickly boarded by the crew of the Bermuda. The action was short but bloody and the Bermuda took heavy losses, including her commanding officer Lieutenant Jonathan Davidson. Once the American merchant had been secured the Bermuda's first officer, Lieutenant Thomas Blackwell ordered that she be taken as prize into Halifax, Nova Scotia. Comprising the prize crew from Lieutenant Davidson's supporters, Blackwell quickly won the loyalties of the remaining men aboard the Bermuda. Together the remaining officers and crew defected, sailing the Bermuda south into Port De Prince where she was refit and renamed Gloriana.
