@admin I don't know if someone else has posted something similar, but I was wondering where we could post ideas that the development team could take under review? An area of the forums where we can post something and have you update the status to "Under review/Consideration/Denied or Rejected" with maybe a reply on why it's good or bad. That being said, I would recommend a few things in game that might fill in more of the world immersion. 1: Whaling, Age of sail was full of it, from off the coast of US to off the coast of South America. Maybe have some whaling ships imported or have a refit/mod for trade ships that lets you go out and go whaling? Or Fishing even. Could use the same "battle fight scene area" like a battle, except instead of cannons, have there be an option to load harpoons or something. Then a rendering station or something at Port that could give oil or such for shipbuilding materials. 2: Figureheads: gotta admit I would kill to be able to change out the Figureheads on a lot of the ships in game. Yes the stock ones that they come with are awesome but seeing 30 centaurs in a PB is weird. They had lions and mermaids and such, this could probably even come out as a $5 DLC and it would get snapped up fast. 3: Custom ship names: Nothing bugs me like seeing a fleet of 74s and all the names are Redoubtable or Bellona. Where's HMS Mars or Thunderer? (Those were just examples, not saying we need those ships). I recommend using the same naming algorithms as you would with chat restrictions so you don't get those troll names or weird characters to make a smiley or some such. Sorry I filled up so much on here.

Hello fellow Captains, Long ago me and my clan mates discussed a possibility for the Devs to introduce Whaling to the OW. This could be an option such as fishing which would in return enhance trading and economy as whaling was one of the most rewarding, however, harsh and gruelling activities in the Age of Sailing. If such a gameplay opportunity exists it would: 1. Enhance Trading and Economy, by adding additional depth to it (new resource, balance difference between other rare resources); 2. Enhance PvP. It could potentially bring more traders into deep seas where PvP would be done. To go into more detail, these would be specific zones for, say, whale migration, thus making some waters more dangerous and profitable. In return, not only us, PvPers, the Master Race, would benefit but also those who trade would have to defend themselves by adding combat ships to their whaling fleets; 3. Enhance Global Chat trash talk and PvE rage (depends); 4. Add some side history to sailing vessels and the region. The resource would obviously be, Whale Oil and it should be extremely rewarding, however, balanced between other resources so they don't become obsolete. What is very important - do not make it as a fishing option or Pray option (yes, I know). This should be a completely different action, which can be done at specific zones (need to do some animal migration research there) so it does not come a free ticket to unlimited wealth and has it's downside. I haven't thought about this in more detail but I'm keen to participate in developing this with and advice etc. Please share your thoughts on this. May the wind be with you, HMS Victory

I noticed a brief mention of whaling in another thread somewhere, and searched the forum but didn't find anything. Do you think whaling would be a good option to have for economy players? This last fall I found an old gem of a book entitled "The Story of Yankee Whaling" at a yard sale. Apparently it was popular during the NA time and potentially very profitable but high risk. It gives examples of whaling ships, and details the equipment a whaling vessel required including the row boats for chasing, harpoons, spear-like cutting implements for cutting them up, huge vats for boiling the oil (in Master and Commander when the Surprise is posing as a whaler, they create smoke to imitate smoke from oil vats). And lots and lots and lots and LOTS of barrels. Some very cool examples of scrimshaw with whale teeth and bones. (Fun fact: whalemen called ships carrying a woman "hen frigates") Apparently whalers could also be sealers... but I don't know if seal clubbing should be an upgradeable crew skill :/ then again, not as hot button a topic as women's rights or slavery, both of which I've seen discussed rather passionately on these forums so far. I'd like to share an excerpt from "The Story of Yankee Whaling", a journal entry from a mate on the whaling ship "Gazelle" regarding the captain's wife: "'Capt.'s wife got sick and so we made all sail for home. I wish she would have a sick time every day if that would only hurry us. She is the meanest, most hoggish and greediest female that ever existed. Her looks is despised by everyone on board and the whistle of a gale of wind through the rigging is much more musical than . . . her voice.'"
