  1. Earlier today, Admin said in response to a "tickle" on that question: "Finishing the testing - too many things added ))) hopefully within next 10 days." http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/14640-devlog-forthcoming-content-patches-plan/page-34#entry319355 For you impatient types, please note Admin said "Hopefully" ... which means "Don't flame if it is later than that." ~ HK ~
  2. I have used "Delivery" to send goods from Free Port to my Outpost, even though the OP is not a Free Port. My understanding is "Delivery" works from any Free Port to any OP one owns. And Devs say the switch will be announced in advance. A wise shipper does not send a load out in the eye of a storm or a server reset. ~ HK ~
  3. Most of that could be player-generated content. Join with a clan and organize a discovery expedition, send a treasure fleet from port A to port B and announce it ... inviting attack. And if you are AFK sailing with valuable cargo, I suggest you are probably in PvE and could get more "excitement" by sailing in PvP server. ~ HK ~
  4. I welcome questions and offer help to any (non-enemy) newcomers I can. Sadly, many do not either see or respond to PM "salutes" ... ... and there are those percent who don't have patience to learn about the game's trading economics, the details of battle and the characteristics of the various ships. So, newcomers ... reply to that friendly "Private Message" ... "O7" is a hand salute, not a puzzle. Ask for help and be ready to spend time learning this complex and deep system that they call a "game." ~ HK ~
  5. I have been using Steam for years. Never had a problem. The concept is very good, as it engages network economics to enable small game publishers to start with a powerful, stable host and market to a large, established community. ~ HK ~
  6. Collaborate, as Sir Texas Sir says. Traders: announce on Clan or Nations chat that you request an escort and the general region. Don't announce details in open; work it out in Private Message ... enemies monitor nations chat. Warships: announce on Nations Chat that you are escorting traders and bringing junior commanders along to join battles. Build community. ~ HK ~
  7. They are opaque in OW. They only get transparent in the Battle Screen, if you have set Graphics Options as Anolytic describes. And then, only when you zoom in through them. Not when you are zoomed out. ~ HK ~
  8. I've been using Steam for a variety of games for several years. Works consistently and as advertised for me. Occasional outages, yes. "Disaster" ... not at all. ~ HK ~
  9. Steam and Naval Action are back online for me. ~ HK ~
  10. Thanks. Steam is up, but am in a queue for Naval Action, position in queue and estimated wait time ticking down slowly ... ~ HK ~
  11. Sou Sounds like there will be a demand for Escort Fleets to help the Great Migration from the Old to the New Ports. (visualizing the scene from the film Gandhi where the stream of refugees fleeing newly separate "Pakistan" pass the stream of refugees fleeing newly partitioned India for Pakistan in the opposite direction ... what could possibly go wrong???) ~ HK ~
  12. I see that assets are being moved, and that Production Buildings will be destroyed and compensation put direct into our cash accounts ... but did not see express reference to "Outposts". For example, if I now have an Outpost in Key West, after the "change", will I have an Outpost in Las Tortugas instead, and no OP in Key West? ~ HK ~
  13. Any military training says have or send out a scout BEFORE emerging from base with your full force. A Basic Cutter will be able to see a gank fleet on the doorstep. Send one out, then burst out your main force. Even better: ask a buddy patrolling the area to tell you if the "coast is clear" ... otherwise, you take your chances. ~ HK ~
  14. To be accurate, the "video" is a slide show of stills with graphics depicting positions of ships in battle and some explanatory text. ~ HK ~
  15. Actually, I'm looking forward to some "local" port battles. Lately, all the "action" has been far away from the 'Merican Homeland. Tough for us married seniors who like to be home at night with the wife or sweetheart. ("May they never meet!") ~ HIK ~
  16. Of course, you may wake up on 9/1 and find Cabo surrounded by hostile ports instead of your friendly 'Mericans. ~ HK ~
  17. Any good captain taught even the "squeakers" how to shoot the sun and calculate their position. Its very reassuring when sailing far at sea for days at a time, avoiding the coast for fear of pirates, kraken, etc., to know just what port that is in the haze on the horizon without sailing into the dangerous shipping lanes to see the name of the port floating over the towers. Leaving aside, of course, the 'realism' of having a port's name and affiliation magically floating over its towers like a billboard. ~ HK ~
  18. Jeheil's vid made clearer to me the role of crew and fleet ships. Fleet ships can be added in port, and some of your surplus (if any) crew assigned to it. Crew Management functions can be used to assign surplus crew to captured NPC ships, to be sailed back to OP or port or(?) follow along on your mission (with their damage). This gives advantages to sailing a ship smaller than you may be qualified for, in order to have surplus crew to handle prizes captured. He discusses the cost/benefit decisions that need to be made regarding boarding (costly in terms of crew losses) and the cost of replacing crew or popping the valuable MedKits (can be bought in port or crafted from Food Supplies, Rum and Tobacco). He also demonstrates how fish caught during OW sailing can be Converted into FishMeat right on board, and provides advice regarding what to do (and not do) with Bottles that contain Treasure Maps pointing to sources of good swag in Wrecks located on the Map, and how to access them. Also, your fleet escort ships added in port have to have all guns, upgrades, cargo REMOVED before you can sail. Capn' Jeheil reports that they will be set up with medium armament, etc. and sailed by the AI system. He indicated that their actions can be directed from the map screen in the Combat instance, which I have not tried of yet Your flagship will be reduced to the sailing characteristics of the slowest, deepest draft fleet escort ship. As always, a valuable, well-organized and concisely narrated instructional video. ~ HK ~
  19. Kudos! Instead of infernal, lubberly blubbering and whining about the changes, two captains who went out in the game world as it is after the patch, ran it up and down the coast, blew some cannon up and told us what the reality is now. Settling down to watch with interest, notepad close at hand. Gold Rattlesnake restless at the dock, new crew chipping shot and new 1st Lieutenant studying charts and tide tables. ~ Hardy ~
  20. Keel-hauling my boats, scraping the bottoms, renewing the rigging and fresh paint all around. ~ Hardy ~
  21. Did you sail for 1.75 hours (real time) from the coast due east of Wilmington, and stick to the Z:790000 coordinate? That got me a Good Landfall at Somerset, two days ago. Which is exactly where it is shown on the Naval Action in-game map. ~ HK ~
  22. Actually, the prize system under the Royal Navy during the time that this game is set, prize money was awarded not only for captures, but for sinking of particularly dangerous ships. Also, sometimes private citizens and ship owners would provide a cash prize to the captain and crew that eliminated a nasty pirate or coastal raider that was hurting their trade. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prize_money ~ HK ~
  23. In a thought to sail to Bermuda, I looked at its location in the map built into the Game. On that map, Bermuda was placed due east of Swannsborough/Wilmington. However, in the map available in NavalActionCraft.com (which appears to be based on the Real Life Google Maps, overlaid with NA location names) ... ... Bermuda is located due east of Beaufort, South Carolina. Which is my recollection based on my honeymoon there in 1980. Who has actually succeeded in sailing to Bda, in NA ... and which is correct for NA purposes? My money is on the proposition that NA devs *moved Bermuda* north. Why? Ask the conspiracy theorists. ~ HK ~

  25. There is a manual entry Captain's Log in the game? If so, where/how does one access the existing Captains Log?
