  1. I know she should have, but she didn't. Not even close. From the funds I'm guessing she got nothing and I suspect my son got nothing as well. I hadn't logged either on till tonight as I had to pick a time when they weren't using their steam accounts for other purposes. I am thinking that may have caused the money refund to not happen at all. How do I recoup the lost funds?
  2. I logged onto my Daughters and sons accounts tonight, each had multiple factors between lvl 2 & 3 and a lvl 2 ship yard on my daughters account as well. Yet her gold total is 62,314, His is 105,593. Neither can come close to purchasing what they previously had. I had thought the same thing had happened on my main account but was assured that all monies were refunded, that plainly hasn't happened for my son and daughters accounts so I am left wondering if I lost out as well. My sons account is Xire, and my daughters Ariane.
  3. Unless the costs of utilising the delivery system have changed dramatically it would be prohibitively expensive to deliver goods that way anyway. So a free port wouldn't be much use. The whole idea of forcing people into these long sails is a negative one and is killing off trade and crafting. It seems like an idea thought up by RATS.
  4. Not 100% sure on this as yet, but my impression is that the money refunded for the deleted buildings and ship yards may be less than their cost. Did the refund include all the costs associated with leveling the building or just the final cost? For instance did a lvl 3 shipyard refund 1.3 million or just the 880,000 of the final step?
  5. Do not like the idea of the regional advantages or the attempt to make people build ships outside of the capital areas. If I read this correctly any mission you take will become an open invitation to the gank squads, if the missions are close to areas able to reinforce you this would be good, otherwise you will be raped by large groups joining missions with no hope of reinforcement in time. Is anything being done about all the high level missions in shallow areas which are populated by NPC ships which aren't capable of entering those areas. I like the fortifications, though the idea of one durability coupled with ships becoming harder to produce is going to stifle PVP. How big will the join circle be for combat? This seems on the face of it to play right into the hands of the gank squads unless it is a big circle indeed. Overall it seems like some worthwhile changes.
  6. This is just rubbish, Captains didn't aim or give the command to fire to individual guns. Each gun captain fired individually unless a full broadside was called for, usually after the initial broadside the guns fired independently anyway with the captain positioning the ship. Rakes were very often done at point blank range and while a rake can be done at range using convergence in game, that is pretty ahistoric and I have never seen anyone in game duplicate the types of rakes delivered in real life even when they could get all the balls to hit. Take into account lag, convergence etc and it is very difficult to get the straight down the decks shots that happened.
  7. This was exactly how a rake was done, its stupid that its not in the game. The skill involved was in getting the ship into that position and its almost impossible under the present system to duplicate the rakes that were done in real life where each gun captain fired as they passed the target. Arguments about it being overpowered are just gamish BS, this was how it was done and is how it should be done in game.
  8. The 2 min timer is one of the worst features of the game at the moment. You can be quite close and at sea and not come close to entering the combat which is a joke. I understand why the gankers love the 2 min timer, but it is the single most destructive feature for both PVP and the game in general.
  9. What point in boarding other than to screw up someone else"s day? you wont be able to pick up the chest anyway other than to presumably try and sail away in an already crippled trader with no repair kits. As I recall everyone just took traders and it was all over in first 15 minutes. Most people couldn't be bothered going considering the huge effort to get there, the 4am start and sensibly just went to bed rather than go for the the meagre chance of a reward.
  10. A truly bad poll, you should go into politics.
  11. Actually both the LGV and the Indiaman were nerfed in this patch so the explanation that the smaller ships were decreased because of the the two larger ones doesn't hold much water. Some of the traders holds are minuscule now. One of the small ships took a hit of almost -75% and the LGV and Indiaman took big hits as well, the Indiaman from 8000 down to about 5450 from memory. One of the small traders actually went up by 50 against the overall trend. I don't mind if these are historical capacities, my suspicion is that they aren't and the figures are being manipulated for other reasons to make people use the bigger ships. This doesn't help much when your trading into shallow water ports where there is now no significant cargo capability. This is I think just another attempt to placate the small but vocal faction of pirates and merchant raiders.
  12. Does Sorry still exist? I've never seen anyone from that Clan in game though they seem to be on the forums a lot. Thought they may have disbanded.
  13. Hi, I would like to put my name forward for PvP 1 as a mod. My main reason is to help the game grow, I love sailing and love the experience of playing Naval Action. I am 58 year old father of two older and two younger children. English is my only language though I know a smattering of terms in German and French. Can I count Australian as a second language? I have some experience as an umpire but none as a moderator in online games. I have a lot of hours of play time including lvl 50 crafting and Rear Admiral. My day job is that of a college teacher so I am quite experienced in dealing with teenagers and others in what amounts to a moderator type function as well as explaining how things work. This is also a job which requires a thick skin. I am in a British clan and was formerly in a French one, plainly my French wasn't good enough I have a good knowledge of the game mechanics but am always willing to learn more. I am also friendly and approachable and try to help new players.
  14. Very soon I think, it has been on naval action craft in the BP section for a while now (that guy seems to have something of an inside track on when stuff is being released) Its in the Naval action API (so I have heard) though with placeholder stats and is appearing in game now as a wreck.
  15. I've read about them and would say that their reasons for being a pirate seldom had much to do with not wanting to bow to a higher power, that's the fantasy Hollywood has promoted but far from reality. Most pirates got into pirating simply due to circumstances often beyond their control. Being given the choice of becoming a pirate or death being one of them, economic desperation another, sometimes pure greed or slipping into the role after operating as a privateer. There were lots of reasons, freedom and and resistance to higher powers were seldom the reason though and many of the more successful pirates did their best to re enter normal life if given half a chance.
  16. Good stuff, but whats the effect of both? and if running upwind?
  17. These figures are correct, the length and breadth of the Ocean class ships is given in Pieds which is an old measurement. It is equivalent to 1.066 feet and the ocean is 196 pieds long, 196 x 1.066 = 208.936 feet. Ditto for the breadth 50 Pieds x 1.066 = 53.3 feet. These conversion issues are also present in the guns, with the French 36lb guns being closer to a British 42lb gun than a 36lb. Incidentally Victory for a long period of her service only carried 32lb guns.
  18. Your only an ally for a forced period, and who seriously is going to support the nation that just conquered you. I certainly wouldn't and would do all that I could to hamper them, but thereafter you don't have any ports in your home area unless they are free ports which don't support industry. Lets assume that you then ally with someone who opposes your original conqueror, you are then faced with either waiting for your factories to be recaptured or destroying them and trying to start over in allies ports which you could lose simply a change of alliance.
  19. If this was the case you would only be able to operate from free ports assuming you had any bases there? Or after the expiry of the no fighting part be able to attack your conqueror's from ports they now owned since you would have none of your own? All in all I think this will see smaller nations crushed early, and players leave the game in droves. Appalling doesn't seem adequate to describe these ideas.
  20. In reality I don't think people did this at all, like I said the fire wasn't that accurate. So I think you don't really need to complicate it but just give a percentage chance of hitting either crew. That would dissuade people from firing in the first. place. If you did want to make it more complicated simply base the hit chance on the percentage of crew left. Though to be honest I think even in its simpler form it would not be an issue because people wouldn't fire into a melee unless they were jerks (yes I know there are plenty around but you choose your friends and allies ) This would also discourage people attacking outnumbered and relying on friendlies fire to win the fight for them.
  21. I and I am sure many others have enjoyed the pleasure of sitting behind or beside a boarded enemy ship pouring ball or grape into them and killing large amounts of their crew. One of the strange things about this experience, is that somehow my grape and balls selectively kill my enemies whilst leaving my friendlies totally alone, unless I happen to hit the friendly ship. While fun this seems to be a magical effect since neither grape or ball were all that accurate even if you could see to differentiate between foe and friendlies which given hull and smoke you can't. I would suggest that such fire should hit the crew of both the boarded and boarding ship (given that a large proportion of the boarders crew are on board the defending ship) I haven't researched this but I would be very much surprised if any friendly ships historically fired into boarding actions. Generally firing into your own troops was frowned upon unless the situation was truly desperate.
  22. Think this sounds like a great idea, simple and effective.
  23. Hopefully the suggestion to balance ships is never taken up, ships historically were different and should be in the game. If they were ever to balance the ships as you say I would cease to play as Naval action would become just like WOWS and other mediocre games. Vive la difference!!!
  24. Seems like a good synopsis of how many people operate at the moment.
