4th rate Rebalance

Recommended Posts

There are a few issues with the 4th rate ships. Several new 4th rates have been added to expand the class. This has brought about an unbalanced class.  Simply reclassing a couple ships.

First thing is to upgrade the WASA to a 3rd rate which will add depth to that class and remove the overpowered ship from 4th rate PBs. With this move you also increase the BR rating of the Wasa. Many players complain that the Wasa is overpowered for a 4th rate and needed to be reclassed. It doesn't effect its PVP abilities only locks it out of 4th rate Port Battles.

Second thing is move the Constitution to a 5th rate since it is classed as a frigate. Now that there are several other 4th rate besides just the Connie and the Aggie to choose from. Also increase the base speed by roughly 2 knots to allow it to compete with other 5th rates. Also lowering the BR rating by 50. Justification for reclassing the Connie is simple. Before the other 4th rates added to the game and the Aggie wasn't craftable player needed a craftable 4th rate. Since times have changes and the addition of the Indefatigable to the 5th rates and the multiple craftable 4th rates including the Aggie, The Connie is no longer needed as a 4th rate and can join its proper class. Why bring up the Indef.? Simple, The cannon load-out for both the Connie an Indef. are almost the exact same mine a few cannons. SO why is the indef. a 5th rate and the Connie still a 4th rate when they bring the same guns to a fight.

the constitution is a heavy frigate so its sitting well

the devil that's the problem but that will be addressed soon tm  the introduction just made a artificial imbalance of ships where aga and constitutions were becoming obsolete in normal gameplay

Ratings are purely artificial, whether we're using the artificial-historical system or the artificial-videogame system.

In reality, Wasa and Agamemnon were both 3rd Rates. The former was built small for economic reasons; the latter was left outclassed by the arms race. Ingermanland was a 3rd Rate in her time as well. Wappen was just a convoy escort and not a proper warship.

We don't have any typical 4th Rates, which would be 50-gun two-deckers.

Constitution was billed as a Fifth Rate for propaganda reasons, but was longer and heavier than a 74 gun ship like Bellona. She mounted over 50 guns, putting her squarely in 4th Rate territory by dint of firepower and armament.

Once the world's navies caught up with this development, frigates of her size were considered 4th Rates. This considered apace until there will single-decked frigates longer than 18th Century capital ships.

Wasa does need its BR raised but just wanted to point out that there are no longer "4th Rate Battles". They are either Shallow (6th rate or smaller) or Deep (Cerberus and bigger).

We dont have that many 3rd rates and Wasa could clearly go under that category.  Ingermanland could be another good option.  This way all 32 pd ships would be 3rd rates.

This would help to balance masts as well.

We will have ingame in the future two (or three) new 3rd rates

Wasa should be nerfed in speed

Consti should be buffed in turn.

Aga should be buffed in speed.

Wappen is good as it is

Ingermanland ... no clue, never sailed or fought one of these things

Yeah, the problem is that Wasa is worth more than any other ship for its ridiculous current BR of 250 and even if they fix the BR and move it to 3rd rates, it's still broken in OW...

Ingermanland is an old out dated ship that is why it's with the 4th rates.  Though I do think all the old 4th rates need some of there old stats back to make them more on par with newer ships.

2 things

Make the Wasa be classified as a 3rd rate so all the books it gets in knowledge slots are "lineship" instead of 4-5 rates
make the Wasa have a BR of 380

Simple, easy. solves the majority of the problem

I been saying this since test bed and maybe tweek the acceleration for the ship so it takes it longer to get to it's top speed than 4th rates and maybe a little tweek

wasa needs a nerf.. with 4-5 rate knowledge bonuses and the ability to have that much speed with all those chasers and the broadside weight is redicilous.. Was in a battle with one just now with connie, 1st broadside down with my middle section on both mizzen and main mast.. basically dead right there, because after that i just got stern raked  so i lost 50% of  my cannons and 50% crew

The connie was designed to be able to over take frigates and smaller boats and out run the bigger ones. The just isn't the case anymore.  Basically the was this this. Anything that could catch you, you could kill. If you cant kill it you can out run it.  After all the changes to the game the connie no longer has this ability.

I don't even mind Connie having the turn rate similar to a 1st rate ( if that is really a realistic characteristic of the actual ship )but to make up for that it should be fast and have more thickness / ricochet potential ( "ironsides" and all )....
