  1. Armament: 24* 12 pounders + dedicated bowchase port, 6* 12-pounder carronades on the quarterdeck Length: 126' (danish) / 129' 10'' (imperial) Breadth: 34' (danish) / 35' 1'' (imperial) Depth in hold: 14' 3'' (danish) / 14' 9'' (imperial) Height of middle gunport above waterline: 5' 9'' (danish) / 6' (imperial) Edit: Took some measurements off a cross section amidships: Thickness of the frame 8'', planking (outside) 4'', planking (inside) 4''. And it had a lot of knees, the Danes certainly liked their ships sturdy, even the smaller ones Designed by fabrikmester E. Stibolt and launched 1789, burnt by the british after the Battle of Copenhagen 1807. The french-style hull shape is typical for the pre-Hohlenberg era and given her rather conservative number of guns, speed seems to have been the focus of this ship. Very elegant vessel, wouldn´t mind modelling her myself, I have the complete plan set (high-res, 16 pages).
  2. Le Pelican Pélican was a French warship from the late 17th century. Built in Bayonne, France, the original Pélican was launched in 1693. A 500 ton ship equipped with 44 guns and commanded by Captain Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville, she ran aground on the shores of Hudson Bay a few days after an heroic battle, badly damaged by the encounter and a fierce storm. The Pélican‍ 's life was short but glorious. She set sail from France on 8 April 1697 and ran aground on the shores of Hudson Bay on 8 September of the same year. However, in five short months of service, her place in history was assured as the victor in the greatest naval battle in the history of New France. On learning that the English were planning to keep control of Hudson Bay, Louis XIV, King of France, assembled a fleet of warships, consisting of the Pélican, the Palmier, the Wesp, and the Profond, in order to recapture Fort Bourbon as the French called York Factory, Manitoba, the heart of the fur trade. On the morning of 5 September 1697, the Pélican, temporarily separated from her sister ships, came face to face with three English ships – the Hampshire, the Dering, and the Hudson Bay – which were carrying supplies to the nearby fort. Although they were outnumbered, the crew of the Pélican engaged in battle, and triumphed, thereby earning their place in history. The Pélican, however, was also fatally damaged in the battle. Holed below the waterline, the Pélican had to be abandoned. The Pélican‍ 's victory, later known as Battle of Hudson's Bay, was certainly due in large part to the leadership of Captain Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville. In addition to setting an example of courage and valor for his men, he fought a remarkable strategic battle with the result that the Hampshire sank, the Dering retreated, and the Hudson Bay was captured complete with cargo. Please provide more info or pictures if you can find it.
  3. HMS Enterprize (British 6th rate, 28 Guns) Ship designed by Sir John Williams; built Deptford Dockyard; launched 1774; 28 guns 6th Rate; harbour service 1799; broken up 1807 Ship Plans http://woodmodelbuilding.blogspot.com/2012/10/hms-enterprize-pdf-drawings.html
  4. I may have already posted the sheer plan for this one, but it lacked the details for the stern, quarter galleries and the head, so I combined the two sets so you can see how the 'complete' ship looked like. Dimensions (imperial feet) Length: 118' 6'' Breadth: 31' 11'' Draught aft: 14' Draught forward: 12' 11'' Length to Breadth ratio: 3, 71 Armament 20 8-pounders 10 Falquonettes (1-pounders) Crew 173 Other ships in class: Tranqvebar (1762), Alsen (1764), Færøe (1766) Launched in 1774 at Friderichswaern (Norway), broken up 1793.
  5. The Hermione (L'Hermione) was a French 12-pounder Concorde class frigate with 32 guns . She carried General Lafayette to the United States in 1780 for support to the Americans in the Revolutionary war. She fought at the Naval Battle of Louisbourg on July 21, 1781 where her and the frigate Astree (Astrée) 38 guns, captured 2 British Warships and and 3 Merchantmen. She grounded and wrecked in 1793. She was rebuilt starting in 1997, and was launched July 6, 2012. She traveled up the US East Coast in 2015. Dimensions (1779) Displacement: 550 tons; 1160 ton burthen Length: 44.2 m (145 ft) Beam: 11.24 m (36.9 ft) Draught: 5.78 m (19.0 ft) Complement: 255 Armament: 32 guns: 26 × 12-pounder long guns 6 x 6-pounder long guns I would love to see this Beautiful ship in Naval Action because of her important role during the American Revolution, what do you guys think? http://www.hermione2015.com/index.html#home https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_frigate_Hermione_(1779)
  6. The Russian Frigate Shtandart Штандартъ was launched in 1703 at the Olonetsky shipyard, and was the first Flagship of The Imperial Russian Navy. She had 24 guns (later 28) and was personally captained by Tsar Peter 1 on her maiden voyage from Olonets to St. Petersburg in September 1703. In 1727, She was broken up. On September 4th 1999, an exact replica of Shtandart was launched from Petrovsky Shipyard in St Petersburg. Her Dimensions are Displacement 220 Tons Length 34.5 M (113 ft overall) 25.0 m (82.0 ft) (length deck center) Beam 6.9 m (23 ft) Height 33 m (108 ft) mainmast Draft 3.3 m (11 ft) Speed 11 knots Compliment 120 seamen Armament 24 guns (28 after 1710 refit) I think that Shtandart should be in the game because of her important role in the formation of the Russian Baltic fleet which helped contribute to the defeat of Sweden in The Great Northern War, and for the fact that Shtandart is such a beautiful ship! Just like The Ingermanland... Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shtandart_(frigate)

  9. La Flore/Vestale 30-32 guns (?) French (1756) Plans in PDF: http://soubory.radekshipmodels.cz/plany/LaFlore.pdf http://soubory.radekshipmodels.cz/plany/FlyingDutchman.pdf http://soubory.radekshipmodels.cz/plany/JollyRodger.pdf Possibly her plans: Short history of her: Built in 1756 at Le Havre and designed by Jean-Joseph Ginoux. She took part in the Battle of Quiberon Bay and was eventually captured by the British in January 1761 by the HMS Unicorn. She was recommisioned as part of the Royal Navy in July 1761 with the name HMS Flora and was paid off in 1762 or 1763. Recommisioned in 1771 for Channel service. Sailed for Cronstadt on 2 June 1772, to deliver the new ambassador. Captain John Brisbane recommissioned her in December 1775. He then sailed Flora for North America on 29 April 1776. On 8 July 1777, Flora recaptured the Fox, which the Americans had captured a month earlier. On 30 May 1778 she sailed to support an attack at Fall River Massachusetts. On 30 July 1778 she was trapped among with other British ship in Narrngansett Bay.The captain ordered the naval vessels to land their guns, men, and stores for the benefit of the garrison at Newport. Flora was in the inner harbour and on 5 August Brisbane scuttled her in shallow water After the Americans recaptured Newport, they some time later refloated and repaired her. They sailed her to Bordeaux where the French Navy bought her in September 1784; she was known as Flore américaine, to distinguish her from Flore, built since. The French Navy refitted her in between January and May 1786. Then in 1787 Flore americaine was renamed Flore. The next year the Navy re-rated her as a corvette, and rearmed her with 8-pounder guns. The Navy struck her from the lists and hulked her at Rochefort in May 1789, disarming her some two years later, and then selling her on 4 July 1792. Her new, private owners, renamed her Citoyenne Française in April 1793. They commissioned her as a privateer out of Bordeaux in May. The French Navy requisitioned her in August, but then returned her to her former owners in December 1795. Her owners again deployed her as a privateer. On 8 September 1798 she was captured by HMS Phaeton and HMS Anson. When captured she was described as a frigate of 36 guns and 255 men. Flore was then sold for breaking up. 14. I am one of the few that has received the USS Essex, and I have taken on the duty of testing her and seeing how she fits into the game. Most of her reviews, I hate to say, have been mixed. And it is not just due to her lack of bow chasers either, but that her stats do not feel appropriate for her size and role. From my inspections, the current stats of the Essex seems to be designed as a contender against the Trincomalee. Both have similar speeds (with the Trinc a bit faster), and the exact same turn rate. If the Trinc is crafted with armor with mind should be able to have more hitpoints than the Essex. The Trinc however has a lot more firepower, being able to mount more guns and 18 pounders instead of just 12 pounders. The only true advantage the Essex has over the Trinc is that she have 360 crew in comparison to the 315. Other than the crew size, and decent hull armor however, she does seem to be an odd ship to be compared to the Trincomalee Below is an image of stats of miscellaneous frigates that the Essex would most likely fight against: If by looking at the stats, (which are not truthfully accurate in representing each ship type stats, as they are different woods and qualities of ship building) the Essex seems to be a bit odd. The hitpoints of the Essex is extraordinarily high for a 12-pounder frigate, nearly twice the armor of the Surprise, and 1.2 times the armor of a Live Oak Belle Poule. The Turn rate of the Essex is as full degree slower than the Frigate and the Surprise, which would make sense because they have less armor and hit points, yet that full degree makes a massive difference in battle, which would make the Frigate be able to be able to completely out maneuver the Essex. In turn, the Essex completely out classes all of her competition in crew size. While this may be fine, as the Essex appears to be designed to fight the Trincomalee, looking at the ship in comparison to the others, the Essex’s size and hull does not appear like to be an armored beast to fight 4th-5th rate Frigates: Here, it is easily seen that the Essex is significantly smaller than the Trincomalee and Constitution, yet is the same size as a Frigate. With her hull lines being shaped like this, it does not make sense that she has so many hit points. It also does not make as much sense why her turn rate is as slow when she is shorter than Trinc. Also, after a brief search, I did not find a time where the Essex was crewed with 360 crew, instead I found mentions of her crew only being in the range of 250-300. Also, most records call her a light frigate, of course, for the United States. Her hull construction was mentioned to be made from white oak, therefore her high armor value should not be as great, if not equal to most other frigates in other navies. She was known for her speed however, which should be her key advantage. Therefore, with this, here are the stats that I suggest for a basic Essex with no improvements or penalties: Max Speed: 13.00 Turn Rate: 2.60 Side structure (L/R): 3000/3000 Bow: 800 Stern: 350 Sails: 3400 Crew: 300 Battle Rating: 190 These are up to debate, but basically, this is a nerf to most of the stats, but a boost to the turn rate. The Speed can be higher, but that can influenced by modules. The turn rate is what needs to be tuned the most, as it is just too low. It’s still the lowest of the rest of the lighter frigates but that is the tradeoff for her speed. Wood types will also greatly influence her performance, where she can be more armored or built more for more speed. My changes also are not to make her a badass frigate, but to balance her out in a role she can better play in rather than being ignored as a sub-par Trinc. Please discuss below.
  15. Didon was a 60-gun Dryade class first rank frigate of the French Navy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dryade-class_frigate Didon took part in the Invasion of Algiers in 1830, and in the Battle of the Tagus the next year. She later took part in the Crimean War as a troopship. Armament: 60 30-pounders (yep, it's OP)
  16. As some might know this was originally planned as a model build of the Minverva, well things have changed. SteelSandwich helped me find a more documented beauty. The dutch 36 gun frigat Frederika Louise Wilhelmina, 1789. I am really thrilled to start this and will keep you people updated during my project.
  17. Plan as published in the Architectura Navalis Mercatoria by F.H. af Chapman in 1768. The design of the stern and the head seems to have been simplified by Chapman, maybe because the original drawings by the master carver C.-P. Caffiéri already have been lost when af Chapman visited Brest in 1754. The chain plates for the main- and foremast above the gun ports also don´t conform to french practice in the 1740s. Designed by Jaques-Luc Coulomb, launched at Brest in September 1744, captured by the Royal Navy in 1760, but not taken into service. Dimensions (taken off the plan) pied de roi feet Length between perpendiculars: 121' 8'' 129' 7'' Breadth (to inside of plank) 31' 8'' 33' 9'' Depth in Hold 16' 9'' 17' 8'' Draught aft 14' 1'' 15' Draught forward 12' 5'' 13' 4'' Height of middle gunport above the water 6' 6' 5'' Distance between gunports 6' 6' 5'' Distance of the center of gravity 1' 2'' 1' 3'' to the midpoint of the length Length-to-Breadth ratio 3,82 I took the measurements off the plan because I couldn´t find a reliable source, Boudriot has a Sirène with 116' / 30' 8'' / 16' 10'', Dermerliac one with 118' / 31' 8'' / 16'. Consequential, even Chapman´s own specifications are different: 119' 10'' / 31' 5''. Oh, and to make a complete mess out of this, there seems to have been a second Sirène (118' / 31' 8'' / 16' 9'') , also by Jaques-Luc Coulomb and bought from the french EIC in 1755. Armament (as given in the Archictura Navalis Mercatoria) 26* french 8-pounders 8* french 4-pounders Chapman also added a short description of this vessel: 'La Sirène, Fregatte du Roi de France, tres exellent voilier, qui porte en même temps parfaitement bien sa voile' alt. translation of the swedish text: La Sirène, frégate de guerre de la Marine de France, laquelle porte parfaitement sa toile sans prendre trops de gîte, outre que ce bâtiment est excellent dans sa marche. Service History 1744 launched september 24 1747 various engagements with privateers between Santo Domingo, Kuba and Jamaica 1755 at Quebec 1756 transporting troops to Louisbourg, Canada 1758 cruise to St. Helena 1760 captured en flûte by HMS Boreas (80 men killed and wounded) off Kuba
  18. Frigate, 5th rate: The name of the frigate is "херувимъ" which you can read as "Cherubim". Cherubim is a supernatural beeing who has wings an animal body but a human face. She is a very powerful creature which is seen as a tutelary goddess. However this is not the whole story. You may have noticed the fallen off letters of the Frigate's stern (^image above)? Well that gives it a whole new meaning. "хер им" translates as "a dick to them" and means something like "they will not reach us". or "you receive nothing". A russian play on words. The ship is modeled after A Chapman design with a 135ft long gundeck. Fighting capabilities: The Figate is the first ship to be able to carry 18lb cannons. She carries 13 of those in her main battery. On her upper decks she can either mount six 6b cannons or if the player wants it she can carry 24lb carronades. Depending on this choice you end up with a broadside weight of either 270lb or 378lb when chosen the carronade setup. IMO Carronades work best with normal guns in the main battery. Her total compliment is 280 men and her Captain. Speed: As a squarerigger the frigate reaches her topspeed on a broad reach (135°). Her preferable sailing area starts at about 85° where she accelerates noticable faster than beeing closer hauled. You can find even greater detail in this post Handling: Turning: The frigate handles very responsive. She turns through the wind as fast as the Surprise. I coordinated a turnrace with a buddy to check her turning capabilities. She may even bequicker. We both used manual skipper to get the fastes possible tack so there is human error incorporated. Due to her short hull she is a really good turner over all. Through the wind or bevore him. Heel: The Frigat is a very stable gunplatform. She starts to heel over when beeing closer to the wind . This is no surprise due to her rigging. Sailing on a beam reach you still dont have to worry about depowering sails. In doubt simply go to battle sails. That will do the job most times. Only when fighting close hauled you have to neutralize the yards and depower the jibs as well if your foe is point blanc. Compared to her bigger competitor the Trincomalee the frigate heels a lot less. Conclution: The Frigate is a very powerful ship. Due to her exellent handling characteristics it is a real joy to sail her. You will be able to turn inside every Trincomalee. But be careful: Even tho she carries 18lb guns that does not mean she ins heavily armoured. She still is a frigate. That means you have to watch out how much damage you soak up. And try to acoid geting trapped between multiple enemies. Plan your engagements. Once stuck in the fight you do not have the speed for a quick departure. © BungeeLemming special thanks goes to Jodgi who provided this fantastic speed chart! _____________________ so. This was my first ever rewiev of anything in a written down form. Tell me what you think is rubbish or what part is plain wrong. I also appreciate tips for edits Typing errors. false grammar etc
  19. Designed by A. Groignard (who, amongst many other ships, also was responsible for the design of the East-Indiaman Le Duc de Duras, much better known as the Bonhomme Richard). Launched at Brest in 1767, broken up in 1783. No plans for the head and stern layout survived, but I suppose she had the same 'horse-shoe' transom and lion figure-head as the Belle Poule. Boudriot states that there are french sailing reports for the Renommée, but they, as far as I know, aren´t published yet. If you have any additional information about this ship, please share Dimensions: Length 154' 6'' (imperial) Breadth 36' 9'' Depth in hold 18' 6'' Height of gundeck sill 6' 11'' L/B ratio 4,2 Armament: 30 * 12-pounders (Dermerliac gives 30*8-pounders and 10*6-pounders)
  20. Part of the 11-ship Niger/Alarm-class, designed by Sir Thomas Slade, Great Britain´s most important naval architect in the Age of Sail (and No.1 in my personal 'all-star' team of shipwrights, with Sané, Blaise Pangallo, Blaise Ollivier and af Chapman ). The Pearl, like most of her sisters, was a higly successful cruiser, with a couple of notable single-ship actions (e.g. Santa Monica, L'Espérance). Arguably Slade´s best frigate design, she was capable of 13 1/2 knots with the wind abaft the beam and 10 to 11 knots close-hauled. Very weatherly, highly manoeuvrable and could carry her sail in strong winds 'as long as the masts would bear it' . 21. Is anyone working on HMS Triton(1796) for inclusion in NA? Quite a novel looking ship, 32 gun, 18lb frigate. Fir built. Would seem to me to be an excellent candidate for inclusion.
