Questions to developers

Recommended Posts

This question has probably already been asked before, but I haven't seen it yet.

How will long distance travel work in the open world?

Will it have warp gated? (Please don't)

Trade winds? (like highways where ships travel faster)

Or will the world just be smaller than in real life?

I hope you will have some sort of travel mechanism, since spending weeks sitting at my computer seeing nothing but the ocean doesn't sound very fun to me.

I apologize for any naive remarks as I'm very new to the game (waiting for next Friday for my steam key).

A question that I know has to of been asked before, but will wind strength vary IN battle? And will battles be instanced or on the open world? I think you have alluded to it being instanced when you said "escorting" captains could be anywhere in the world when they are called on and be "warped", so to speak, to the battle, but I do not want to assume.

Can you tell when this game will be available for playing? I used to play Pirates of the Caribbean by Disney/Playdom which was a very popular game until new developers ruined it. I think a lot of my friends in that game will be amazed when they find out about this one! I actually have Steam!

There's no ETA on the final release yet, but the game will be available in Steam Early Access at the beginning of 2015.

But we can already pre-order the game and participate to the Sea Trials (alpha testing).

Just asking out of interest

-what is the most frequent ship type players use these days?

(gut feeling wise its neither a Lynx nor a ship larger than the Constitution)

i started a poll long time ago about it: 5th and 6th rates where the common choice wich is understandable since near the end trinco/consti upwards playerskill isnt the winning factor since having the most and bigger guns is more important. the most enjoyment comes from using the smaller nimble ships like Surprise and Ontario(Snow) simply because you are constantly firing or manouvering wich takes longer on the bigger onces leading to an easy to predict outcome where a to slow turn can deside the battle in the first 5-10min where you get more chances on the smaller ones.

the small minimap only shows as much as she currently does if you mena that

While you are in battle you can see only from your ship on the map,  but I was watching a u tube video and the person who shot the video was above map looking down and  you could see all the ships in the battle.  How did he do that?  Thank you

If you mean the camera viewpoint was doing that, you can press Home to unpin your camera from the viewpoint on your ship and fly it around.  The person shooting the video may have done that.

The person doing it have to be dead though

Is that a recent change?  I've done it without being dead, and I know a number of folks have used that technique to create screen shots and videos while under sail.

I might be wrong. I dont know why but it just seemed like a after death mechanique to me.

Alright, well I personally have a lot of questions but for now I will only list a few of the major ones that have popped up in my head and go on from there!

~If a player is drawn into a contracted protection battle, lets say he or she sinks. Do( or would for open world) they keep the ship when replaced on the world map? Or rather would they then be out of a ship at the nearest port or location to the battle in which they sank?

~To add to the scenario of the previous question, what would be the typical replacement cost based on a ship class? I bring this to mind because historically the HMS Victory sailed by Lord Nelson in modern sense cost approx. 200-300 million British pounds to manufacture and maintain. Secondly would there be an upkeep cost of having a ship( ie. - maintenance costs)?

~Bit to the future aspect, would there be a port system to house the economy or would it all be done via ship?

~Lastly, what could we expect in terms of ship development for future prospects? By this I mean will the current damage system pertain or will we see a rotation to a tier system per nation? Also to add to that, will we see much more in the customization aspect of the ships or will we all be sailing the same USS Constitution around merrily?

Quite a lot to answer of the bat so to say however; I feel this sums up my questions nicely. Any response from the crew would be great! Thank you.

B) Here's to a wonderful gaming experience with Naval Action! B)

Sadly most of us are in the dark too. The dev's haven't mentioned a lot about the open world yet.

1) We don't know - but one would assume out of a ship

2) We don't know although upkeep on ships was mentioned somewhere before based off usage.

3) It sounds like there will be a port system as ports will be built by players/guilds but nothing concrete has been mentioned or promised.

4) There will be ranks in Navy's but also the ability to buy ships as a privateer/merchantman. How it will all work is also still unknown besides the odd hint or mention that doesn't shed a lot of light on the situation.

Hopefully a dev will answer your questions but remember it is extremely early still.

Hi,

I just started and to be honest I'm very much impressed how much game there already is for an alpha! While it is possible to find stuff about almost every ship/concept/gun in the forum there isn't really a spot where you could get a rough overview of the available ships and their roles/different kind of guns and their role and so on. I'm kinda looking for the introduction section of a tutorial where someone is listing all available ships with some further information about them and what their role in battle is. Also I'm kinda confused about the pro and cons of the different guns and stuff. If something like that exists I would be really happy if you could share the link. Otherwise.. we really need a wiki! It would make things much easier for starters.

i am sure there will be later an interactiv list of ingame ships later on the homepage like other shooter games do with hand guns and other stuff.

to the ships above you can add soon

an 64gun 3rd rate

a 16gun Brig and some other frigates wich are roughly  between the Leda class and the Surprise wich are currently  work in progress
