  1. Please see my sig......we are Mainly EU based at the moment with about 60% of our active players being in EU timezones
  2. Not disagreeing with you RAM at all, simply trying to bring some balanced thought and opinion. I do not know him well, I just had a completely different experience. Yours does sound unpleasant and I would condemn it also. I think my wider point is that before this forum becomes a kangaroo court we should look for a pattern of similar behaviour rather than condemn a man on a single instance.
  3. IMO...we keep the existing 3 repairs with their options and have a single extra repair that can ONLY be used on masts and will only repair 1 mast.
  4. Gentlemen I am sure this is fascinating stuff and we are all for realism, but there must perforce be some balance with gameplay. I am not here for "sailing a square rigger sim" and I suspect very few of us are. It seems from previous posts in this thread and others on this matter we are unlikely in the short to medium term at least to get full and realistic control of individual masts, yards and sails. And frankly, for me, that would be too much anyway. So if you could perhaps condense the issue and provide a workable solution, that might move the topic/issue along quicker?
  5. This is disturbing to hear your comments re Mr Doran and I am not saying they are not accurate, BUT, I have had the pleasure (and I DO mean pleasure) of being in battle both with and against him on a number of occasions in the past days. We even had a scenario where he jumped into a PvP at the last second, when I and a Guild member were looking to do some manual tacking training. We explained to him that was our intent and he readily agreed to not fire on us if we didn't fire on him, without asking. So... I guess my point is let us not tarnish an individual with 1 bad experience, we all have our off days etc. So perhaps we should confine ourselves on this public forum at least to only "outing" serial offenders. That is not to say that the AUSL should not keep a collective "watch list" but only when we get repetitive bad behavour should we out people here. I am sure most of us are guilty at some point in time of being precipitous in our responses and then getting carried away. I believe what i am saying here is more in the spirit of the fairness we seek, than this instant public damnation.
  6. I often find on the first battle of a session I fail to connect and get the NO Responce (sic) error box. When this happens CRTL/ALT/DEL out of game and restart NEVER puts me back into the battle. It seems that you have to first connect tothe battle instance to be able to log out (for whatever reason) and then rejoin the battle by logging back in.
  7. Exactly...I KNEW something was wrong instinctively for a while but I just couldn't out my finger on it.
  8. Am I the only person who has noticed the compass in the bottom left of the screen is wrong. I have been scratching my head for ages knowing something was not right and finally today it struck me....if I want to go from a heading of 045 to a heading of 090 (or NE to E if you prefer), I would turn to Starboard right? Well not on the compass on screen. The bearings go counter clockwise not clockwise. Do I win the prize for spotting the deliberate mistake?
  9. You'll always be tryptix to me, but out of courtesy I shall use your new style Sir! And very stylish it is too.....
  10. No-one is stopping anyone or a number of individuals from getting together and practicing. This is what people who want to be good at something do. If you want to operate in isolation, there is nothing stopping you setting up in a practice room until you have mastered tacking a ship as fast as possible using the Manual Skipper option. There really is no need to be anti-clan on this is there? Oh and remember that there was significant historical domination by clans ...they were called nations.....
  11. You don't need range lines, knowing the enemy is 150 yards away is meaningless, there is no setting on the guns to fire 150 yards...it is only a number, you will still have to fire ranging shots and adjust....utterly pointless
  12. Fail to Prepare, Prepare to fail. Read PO'B, his books are full of Aubrey's crew doing gunnery practice. Trust me the best navies in the world always have and always will practice, whether it is gunnery, missiles, torpedoes or whatever. If you don't practice you don't perform. FACT! So.. the option to go into some kind of "training area" and do gunnery and manual sailing etc without the major distraction ofr shot raining down around you, is to me, absolutely essential.
  13. Intel i5 Quad, 8GB DDR3, ATI Radeon HD5780. Runs fine in High with 20 fps which is perfectly playable....tried Ultra and tbh couldn't see a difference except the fps dropped to 12.
  14. You can't have everyone on the same TS channel it would be mayhem
  15. You really aren't helping you know, for those of us yet to receive keys......
  16. Always a pleasure to see another "well ripened" captain here.....
  17. I play WoT because it serves a need for me, but I agree, I would hate to see this game turn out like WoT and please don't even mention War Thunder in the same paragraph! Damn! there I went and did it, shame on me.
  18. Back in the Age of Sail you would have been a hoary old seadog at 16....so maybe not so young...
  19. Welcome Sir....you arrive at a most opportune moment it would seem. Prepare your Sea Chest and await orders......
  20. Well obviously you didn't stop reading it, because here you are back again replying to it. Why are you so "angry" about this?
  21. Surely Mirones you are not suggesting some form of censorship on these forums? It's all pretty much on topic, so really people may post what they like. It isn't spam either, not as if the same post is being repeated over and over. If reading this thread bores you because of your perceived repetition then simply mark it as read.....
  22. It would generally have to be pink gin of course....and whilst Gordon's is the norm, Hendricks would be a good deal better or Plymouth Gin..... Horse's Neck was also a commonly ordered drink, but rather more contemporary I suspect. And of course, let us not forget a decent glass of Port, post-dinner with the Cheese. (Anyone suggesting pouring the port into a Stilton cheese WILL be taken out and shot as a scurvy heathen... ) For the port I would suggest a Croft '63 if you can a. find any and b. afford it. I was once the proud owner of 2 bottles, now long since imbibed very appreciatively at a special occasion.
  23. Anyway the best rum in the Caribbean, IMHO of course, is Cruzan Gold 120 proof which is from St Croix. Mix with some Ginger Beer (NOT Ginger Ale) and a little Lime Juice for a "Dark and Stormy". Sadly I am virtually teetotal these days, Liver not quite as good as it once was.
