  1. What do real life french victories and losses have to do with being french in a game like this? Losing a lot in real life does not have any bearing on wheather french will win battles in game. It should not be discouraging at all.
  2. Let's just get this one as great as it can be. We are still talking YEARS here..
  3. I am unsure. As a fighter with limited time, I like the idea of keeping the arena... However, I would hate for the open world to lose fighting men to it. Let's also remember success in the open world will likely have much less to do with the kind of fighting we see in arena, and much more to do with chases, deception, risk, and evasion.
  4. I'm not French, and I don't plan to play French, but why does it seem that so few are around? I would think that between France, French Canada, Louisiana, etc. that there would be plenty of people around wanting to play French...
  5. I've really been enjoying my NA time since joining you guys! Thanks for the great times.
  6. I was sailing my Vic in a fight yesterday. I took very light fire at the beginning on my left side that did no armour damage at all, but I lost my pump, magazine and rudder right off the top. As it is now, those things are far too easy to take out. I agree that the ship should have to take a certain amount of damage before these systems can really be threatened. Something is wrong with the current damage model in this. Perhaps 4.0 will be better.
  7. I would like to see different animations for shots that don't penetrate. Right now all shots send wood and dust flying even if they do no damage at all. I'd love to see shots bounce off the big line ships etc. It would help people better understand what effect they are having on the enemy as well.
  8. Wow I love this discussion. For my 2 cents, I am all for reality when it makes sense. I am hoping that in in the open world game, getting into these bigger ships should be a monumental group effort. So if it ends up being an absolute beast that turns well, that is fine as long as they are very rare to see and very scarey to risk in battle for the owners. I am hoping that a single person operating on their own will not have a practical way of getting into the medium to large frigates and line ships should be totally out of reach. We will see... I see myself in cutters and brigs for the most part, and I'll be happy with that unless I become a member of a well organized group.
  9. I would find it fun to try a no health bars option once damage becomes visible..
  10. My thoughts exactly. The wind that suits one captain best may be different than the wind that suits another best. The ship, rigging setup, fighting style all factor in...
  11. I think as long as it is not magic...and perhaps not an instant effect, then we have something good. I like the idea of sliders to set crew ratios, but I would want to be able to preset keys to issue those commands quickly. No clickfest was said earlier, and I agree.
  12. I'll gladly second this thread. I would be very interested in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and the others you mentioned. I like small engagments like that. I like the ideas for scenarios. It might be fun to have a simple race setup for the sailing enthusiasts where no shooting is allowed. You could also have racing where shooting is allowed LOL There could be some kind of cat and mouse type scenarios as well. 2 big ships try to chase down/corner and capture a smaller more nimble ship. or the other way around... Of course like you mentioned, bigger battles that would resemble port battles would be fun as well.
  13. The fact is that this genre has been mostly ignored by the industry, which makes me very sad as it is one of my favorite times and themes. More reason to support and get the word out about this team's efforts!
  14. It certainly would not be at the top of the list of early needed features, but I think it would be a great down the road feature.
  15. I'm sure the OP meant that the men on deck and in the rigging would automatically take shots at each other....Seems like a realistic and cool looking feature to me.
  16. Of course including these sorts of features would be great! Cannons booming, smaller arms cracking when in range, Sweeeeet....
  17. Customization is an absolute must in my mind. Without it everything just becomes far too predictable! It also helps moe ship types find viable rolls in varrying situations.
  18. If you like really rude songs, there is always the good ship venus...don't listen with kids around though...
  19. Hey Guys! Old POTBS player here too Went by Craig Hustler, and other variations on that name. Looking forward to this. I hope it takes off.
  20. I'm enjoying this show. I wouldn't call it trashy... I think trashy would be a bunch of peg leg, parrot shouldered POTC clones. That would be trashy, but this show seems to want to come off as authentic. The pirates talk rude, as they were known to do. They drink and have sex, as they were known to do. The pirates are violent and fight, as they were known to do. If including sex = trashy, then this show has that. This next tangent is unrelated to the OP's original post. I don't quite get why some people get up in arms about sex on tv, but those same people have no problem watching someone get shot in the face on tv. I would much rather my kids see people loving each other than killing each other... In any case this show is worth at least checking out.
