  1. Pirates why didn't you just attack them on open sea?

On the other hand I will never understand why it is obviously necessary to avoid pvp in hostility missions. Seven russian 1sts + 2 spanish. I would like to see the spontaneously asembled Pirate fleet you guys wouldn't be able to defeat.

But RvR vs PvP will probably always be apples and oranges.

    Edit: not tribunal worthy imo

  2. Aside from the fact that you won the pb should be worth more than some shallow ships: why dont you drop out of the battle one by one leaving in different directions if you want to safe your ships? I don't get what difference it makes to stay 15 mins longer in the battle?

I disagree on ending the battle instance when one side leaves. In rough nights these 15 minutes are the only real breaks one gets when dragged from one battle into the next.

The downwind profile is a joke.

Huge BR means big reinforment, (which is more dangerous than most players).

The only thing the requin has left is speed upwind, reduced now due to pirate rig nerf and large crew which still requires 2 seperate mods to reach a decent amount.

Do I smell salty tears?  (do they actually smell, someone got empirical or factual data on it?)

Huge BR means the same reinforcement as before. Are there other 6th AI reinforcements than Brig, Snow, Merc?

With an Elite Pirate Rig she still runs pretty fast downwind. And now tell me that staying behind an enemy and killing crew and guns with the swifels and pudhing him into the wind is a skill, when you're faster downwind? Pirate rig got nerfed by 1/3 and not to unusability.

The Requin now is just fine. It's where it belongs.

  4. I think I love you @Percival Merewether. Sounds like NA wonderland except for the issue Basnished has adressed.

I see no reason to cut the rewards.

"Most importantly:  Casuals will never be annoyed again by any gankers or actual PvP’ers looking for a fight. PvP’ers can now fight each-other and brave PVE’ers can explore the beautiful map of Naval Action in hopes of finding new riches while I search for them.!"

That perhaps sounds a bit too idealistic though :P

Very nice fight Sir :) damn those beaches, sorry for having to quit early, I owe my fellows a bunch of ships.

@North can you come and take Carta now please? We hoped our little Volkssturm would sting the bear a little

We also had an arranged fight with KoC and Co.  in the patrol zone. A random Frenchy joined but did not really do harm to us (or the french side I hope). Donner leaked one full health Buc after the first engagements, pretty sure that enabled us to win as - until then we couldn't really get a grip. French stuck together finely, as always I got greedy and cocky and when seeing to sink, had to yell at  @sam121252 for my mistakes 🙈 Nice fight overall. Room for improvements for both parties I'd say.

Oh and ofc: yes Donner you did well :)

    Morgen zusammen,

habe nun wieder mit Naval Action angefangen und bin als Swede auf PVP server unterwegs, da der Clan Thread nicht aktuell ist, wollte ich fragen ob auf der Sweden seite ein deutscher Clan unterwegs ist ?

HRE (Havelock), SMC (Blurun), SAB (Germann). Clans und (ingame) Namen.

concern is not for me personally (never been sunk or boarded by a requin), what you should understand is that the new players and those who return to the game after a few months of absence and even those who will never learn, continually complain about how this requin is broken (and indeed it is)!
They do not accept to be defeated with the methods that I said in previous posts (chain, push, board, kill) in a few minutes. There is no fun in this (apart from the pro @Licinio Chiavari that has fun always and only in the same way!).
Why these captains never complained about your sinking when you came to KPR in pirate frigate or Bellona or Trinco? Have you ever asked it to yourself?
You offered a "fulfilling" experience even to those who you defeated, there were people who would face you to learn from you (I remember three duels I lost with you).

What's satisfying in the battles with the requin now? NOTHING!

I understood Massimo :) thanks for the credit, I don't really think I deserve it.

Well I will try to be more precise aswell then. Every player has a certain preference in sailing. Some have always been fans of the hit and run tactics. This one may like or not. To me there is basically no difference between the fir fir 5th meta and the Requin meta now (talking about capital areas). To both tactics, the targets are limited, as it will always be newbies/casuals that will suffer the most. And the coastguard will always be annoyed, as it's harr to catch them. It's a "natural development" of hunters and coastguards, which has always existed. The appearance may differ, the problem stays. Hunters establish a meta, the coastguard counters it. This problem will exist forever (unless we have fixes).

To me there is no fun in push-pull-kill, but it is a valid playstyle. So who are we to judge different playstyles? Can there be a judge at all?

I bet there are numberous people that dislike me kiting them when they outnumber me. I dislike people that only engage when victory is certain. Does this matter? Not at all, imo.

What I can not stand are these "pro" players who consider themselves to be "fair fighters", when they are players like all the others: they fight if they think they have chances to win and they try to flee if they think they have no chance.

And here is the problem with requins!

The requin is a 6th rate with crew able to board even many 5th rates, with excellent sailing profile (even after the fix), exaggerated cannons, a profile of the hull almost impossible to hit at 200 meters, and with the escape option even without a mast and with 50% sails!

It is here that I ask you, does it seem fair considering that it is a paid ship?

Fair wind my "dearest enemy" 🙂

Well I have to disagree on the Requin Massimo. As I said imo it's a question of experience. Any skilled captain in an average square rigger can escape Le Requin (also consider the amount of chains she is able to shoot). Considering the ability to catch her - a comparison. Will you catch a fast 5th with only ohne fast 5th? It's not that likely imo. Why so coastguards outnumber their enemy? They want to catch him/her. So transfer this to a Requin and you will be forced to sail schooner's (that the correct term?) to catch it. One may not like that, but to me there is actually not much of a difference to very fast Hercs, Endys or any other ship being trimmed to hunt in capital waters.

It's a question of how far people are willing to adjust their playstyle to new metas. I used to "hunt" in capital waters and had to quit this style after battles stayed open for 90 minutes - it probably hasn't been fair before and after the changes it wasn't fair either. Okay the perspectives changed. It's a constant up and down in capital areas. And it's in the same way double standards to want hunters to be always caught as it is to be able to hunt down proper targets and be able to always escape if it gets too much.

So imo that's a question of RoE of reinforcement zones, but that's another topic.

Overall that's not an issue of  Le Requin, but players willing to adjust their hunting styles and being honest about that.

Fair winds, apologise my impoliteness please.

  9. I think it's fine not to be able to catch a Requin upwind. If it had been a prince the same "issue" would have occured. One could discuss the issue of demasted vessels and their performance. Overall rig damage has a gamey performance, though imo that's not too big of an problem. For sure not one of higher priority.

@MassimoSud methinks you describe a classical meeting of vets vs newbies. Nearly every square rigger is now able to escape a Requin (even with elite pirate) on 180° (even broadreach). That's ofc if the player knows that. So all (from what I read) you could accuse the two players of, is that they picked on noobs. But who doesn't, or does not gank etc. Think there is a biblical picture including guilt and stones...

I am just against those double standards . Nerf sailforce on requin but let my bellona fly 15.5kn with spanish rig

Point is that the Bello still has it's negative side with spanish rig. Requin hasn't with pirate rig.

Nontheless the rig mods are a pain. Just too stronk (remember we had them before and they were no meta). I guess if we found a way to balance them between being completely useless and totally over powered, we achieved a lot.

    That would be great !

Given the nature of OW and unknown Permanents/Knowledge books&encyclopedias, could those mock-up battles be run with basics or no equipment ?

    Awesome if so. Thanks.

Both. We tried biggest broadside weight as well as only 12pd carronades with pen mods or 9pd medium guns or all 18pd carronades. We had the basic hull, basic carpentry basic strong sail combo as well as northern carps/navy hull/elite british. I'm pretty sure we always sailed AOS, Carpenter Combat Reports and Winged-out-Ballast, some reload/precision mods.

Though I have to add, that we leveled the ship in pvp only (you might be a fan of the new player experience ;))

Until the move to more historical sail plan based curves? And changes in turning based on hull data?
    Or until when?

Until mast thickness and HP changes and ofc the addition of the Herc. Hercules is better now after tunings. Still she is making most 5th rates obsolete. Why? Turning in relation to bow-to-stern-length, firepower, sailing profile, base speed, chaser amount (compared to other 5th's).

I hope we can soon bring out a Herc report based on multiple battles we used it on the OW - let me collect some screenies. Currently it is opinion vs opinion. Imo the Herc is the bigger problem currently than the Requin. This ofc also depends on the pov. Newbies and coast guards will tell a different tale as it is tremendously annoying (= very emotional) to be unable to catch such a ship, when hunters just pick (mostly) easy targets and disappear then. Yes this has always been a case and will always be a case, Xebec is the new fir/fir Surprise.

Xebec is much easier to encounter/or to escape from now though imo. I still struggle heavily with the pirate rig refit adding only boni to this ship.

The real difference are turn rate + crew + firepower.

Aye. Frigates are feeling. I currently sail Essex. She tacks awesome. Gunnery 12 pds and 18 pds medium. A dream of a reload. But she's a brawler not a hunter.

Endy fights on distance and uses it's high calibre. The turn rate (esp. considering her length) is not as good as the Trincs' or most other frigs. Endy is and was always something completely different than the Surp.

Every frigate has it's use. Well, had :(
