  1. im against duros on anything 6th and up. it is bad design and hurtful to the crating/economy. 1 duro, losing permanents but keeping normal upgrades is far more preferable IMO. Once the figure out the surrender issue it will be far more likely a ship is captured rather than sunk
  2. Agree, ai fleets suck Boarding game needs more options and better AI. Marines, rum, swords boarding Hammocks & barricades = auto win on any AI...even with crew junk its still screwed up
  3. But the issue is you can't fight port battles.....the timers are being set against you. you take ports and we dont fight back. we pull flags you cant defend. I still like port battles i just find it hard to get a population to do anything that is contested. If there was a way to keep my players logging in then we would contest but when you are faced with the inability to do PVP and AI until a flag is pulled then it is a problem. If we do an AI fleet while waiting in our defence timers we cant get out to get to the PBs fast enough. If we try to PVP people hide in port because theyare not ready. I cannot hold the interest of players to have them sail around doing nothing in case a flag is pulled. You didn't pull any flags last night we took a port uncontested. That isn't fun. Port battles dont work in the current format because there are no players to play them. pre 3rd rate cap nerfing there were players because the grind was longer and people felt they had to go chase AI fleets in the local vicinity. Population is low because there is nothing to do other than wait for a PB in their eyes and they don't get the combat when they do it themselves. I enjoy a battle, I enjoy slowly achieving a goal......i have none atm as last night showed me again. I'll log in again tonight and i expect there will be a port battle or two to get to but will i have the players to fight it.....based on the enjoyment last night gave them....unlikely. this is the issue not the PB being on or off. how many of those port battles were even remotely contested fights. I fear if you actually got a poll of those people who actually played the PB how many of them felt it was a contest you would find very little of them. It isnt resources it is manpower available to make the current mechanics work. the recent changes make it harder to get to a battle not easier. The current meta is take a port set it to somewhere your neighbors cant fight .... that sucks, devs can stop it by making timers locked which would help.....turning them off is not addressing anything I am pretty much on the same page as you but i blame the devs for bad decisions and lack of focus on enabling battles and enjoyable play and focusing on features that are detrimental to the game at this stage. You seem to be looking at the glass half full side of things which is admirable but when something is a work in progress i expect work to be done on things that need to progress to create active play not features detracting from it. Surely there are people who see a test server before it goes to PVP1......if so they are very bad at it.
  4. I still think people are missing the core issue that once you get to top rank there is nothing to do. No reason to log in. Ports have basically no value outside of the 6 you need to make your buildings. There is no penis measuring system so it comes down to how to get good battles fast......Port battles don't work because people dontcare enough to sail the distances.. You cant queue for battles with any confidence and really only sailing to peoples capitals where you get short access to battles before there is a counter PVP fleet sitting around and you end up having to run away. Turning on or off port battles wont help anything. The reason we are having trouble in the game is because of open world design and lack of carrots.....i play less than ever now as I have all the gear all the ships all the crafting. once people max out there is no content. The general masses need content to fill their time and then events like port battles can be a nice interruption to their grinds. There is a reason why daily missions exist in other games......the problem is that the daily grinds need to have carrots and NA has no carrots. Promote battles, create fame, create goals for top ranks and create difficulty that you can defeat through skill and ticking boxes. I personally think that the last thing they should be doing is creating content like fishing, perks that are OP etc etc etc. The boosts you get from gold mods is stupid. Boarding is auto win on AI and the only concern is crew which is rebuild throughnon PVP methods vs detracting from the core of the game. The idea is to have 75% of people logged in fighting each other and 25% supporting them via trade & crafting at all times. you cant do that when the map is basically populated at capital cities and a couple of free ports. Teleport to capital is a bad thing it should be teleport to nearest outpost as a quick end of night exit. TP to capital merely makes people feel that the capital is home. Currently the numbers are far closer to 800 logged in at a good time and less than 100 in battle. This is not action and not healthy The list of things that are in the game that make getting a battle harder is growing. The direction the devs have taken with fishing, officers & such is probably not a bad thing but it is not implemented in any way that make it encouraging to do stuff. Fishing in WOW for instance took you to different places to catch different things for different reasons.....ship wrecks were sort of meant to do that but at the moment its just another broken thing that they have to rework.
  5. like making temp upgrades not loseable ever... leave 7ths and traderswith duros just military and 4ths 1 duro
  6. re surrender : 2. first 5mins only Also do yourselves and make permanents die when things sink/surrender. Make non permanents not loseable ever and get rid of duros.....this way people dont want to lose their ship more desperately. duros are for newbies and modusers....grey ships are far too over used and you need to make the economy work better which means ship turnover.
  7. I agree would be nice. I actually built one a while back website style for battle plans http://www.fastidius.com/map2.html down bottom is waypoint mode and of course you can printscreen etc... I even tried to replace the cursor with an image but it got a bit too clunky. Burning sail and http://map.licornes.eu/ have their overn options too but it would be nice if devs built a little functionality into the map
  8. nah nothing player related at all other than contracts. basically you get port information, item information and the shops info that leans on each of them..... so you know what the items are and some info like drop chances of BPs etc You know who owns what ports and their location and what stuff is there for sale, what produced, consumed etc....no ships data oddly and no player data and only at server down (or server up since the file seems to update as the server is booting again)
  9. no its a shit perk for the game. PVP is dead learn to lead your target. if aussies can kick the shit out of euros at 300 ping you should be able to be average on 200.
  10. EU is where the server lives not the populations silly
  11. You can also flip your front sail and counter rudder to make your ship drop it's belly as well as T. this will drop your speed but make lower leaks shots near impossible. Also vics and and other higher end ships like bellonas that have decent pen can fire down into the smaller ships and create leaks on opposite sides. I tend to prefer to call the health pool - hull integrity integrity. ie how much flex the ship can take before the cordage and oakem, tar and frame parts buckle. If you are reallyreally good with timing and luck you can go to locked sector when side by side and actually shoot into the cannon holes which will cause more cannon damage and fire chance also. Interestingly I think cannons have their own Armour thicknesses as sizes go up as you don't seem to break cannons on lower lbs guns.....i expect cannons are like modules and have their own structure/HP pools. A santi having so many cannon holes seems to make it far more pennable than a vic too.. aim at cannon lines or belly . Very good write up of the mechanics involved.
  12. Nvidia Laptops should be pretty "OK" with NA. I run 50-80 FPS on a 980m. drivers do cause differences im on 362.00 atm and thats been pretty solid across many games including NA
  13. Options i see as viable. No outpost option in freeport, sail in / out or lg off only Restrict to no military ships restrict to 5ths and down Make outposts only have 1 ship slot so it isnt a base just a trade port..
  14. nice to see devs are right on the hotfixes.....
  15. Teleporting is intrinsic to playing the PVP PB game if you have a map this size and a population this low. If they get enough people that you can defend a port inmultiple locations at once then thats cool but at the moment we cant get enough people to fill battles let alone defend both sides of the map. I am all for turning off Teleports between outposts IF they put in some form of Teleport to staging area for port battles. The issue is that it is an all the time thing.......Let the people who want to play big battles in ports get their big battles in ports..... Democracy allegedly means multi country battles which means more population for these PBs HOWEVER if you make us deal with timeslotting like we are all you do is make PB players in one area of the map where they set timers that they can fight on......see yucatan and Aus timers for instance. Reality is that until they make a system where by people can access the enemy in a timely fashion then out post teleporting is essential. same with ship TPing. there is a reasonably fine balance between too easy to access and to hard to access and at the moment they may be a bit further to the easy access side but then there is so little activity in PBs and PVP in general that it really is a choice between teleporting and loss of players...........they already have the no carrot issue which is causing loss of players. I have suggested a few different things however at this time there is no action other than admin threatening to turn them off "sometime" which basically means it aint happening till they fix the other stuff. Realism is a bit of a grey area for devs and I think that they should focus on realism in battles and more arcade in open world. There could be a 3rd option for the world inmy view which is.......Operational areas. This would be teleporting to the Regional capital or somethingin an area which is insta but OW for that area....i have talked about it as hyperspace teleporting as teleport to activity etc etc. It is ONLY an issue because the ma is so big and the player base s small. If this is the level of players they expect for this size map then they have significantly bigger issues. TLDR: it has to be there until the make a way to get PVP more active. it is the only way people can get to both OW combat and PB combat.....and it sorta fails at that too atm. Personally i want more outposts and teleports right now because getting to a fight sucks. Even more so because everyone is fishing in cutters/traders making anything over a rattlesnake OP and too slow.
  16. When they run behind they will use adding a button in battle to allow fishing to replace actual content..
  17. I am positive there was an amendment about a month ago where pirates can fight pirates green on green if they are actively working against you. Admin maynot have updated this link but im surethere was a multi paragraph post by admin in one of the tribunal threads.
  18. actually if you auto spawn PB timers....then your going to have issues with timezoning.
  19. sounds like an interesting system however i would think that hostility levels would be affected by freeport locations...
  20. so basically the vote implies that being a pirate should be a negative and removes 2nds and higher and maybe 3rds.....and they can't own ports. these are all negatives to being a pirate.....what positives do they get to make them something people ant to play or do we actually just want to remove pirates as being a thing people should want to be?.
  21. Duros bad design, make perms disappear on sinking but make upgrades and officers stay with captain uless surrenderthen lose all duros = bad design creates less need for ships to be crafted....10 basic cutter missions = a snow easily so it isn't like there is a price issue
  22. i like the idea of a long one....ie get from the far west to the far east for a great prize.....through enemy waters etc
  23. ok a more specific answer. Turn off pirates as a nation as soon as democracy hits. after 1 month turn on piracy but announce it as 4ths down and no crafting over 4ths but they can cap 3rds and up but only crew them with 450 because thats a pirate cap. crafting of mods is better for them thos...ad a rank or 2 higher mods for pirates in swordsmen etc that way they are the underdog always but can compete.....ir hard mode everyone is bitching about what mechanics should be and such but it boils down to make it underdog hardmode IMO once they move everyone from black and give them a new version with issues....they can then spend time designing something better than a fake nation. At the moment they have a lot of noise and no real precision on any changes
