  1. Just watch the way sails are lowered and raised in game. If you go to full stop from full sail you still take each sail down as if you were going from full to half etc... There is only so much room on the deck and in the rigging, as it is the game affords you much more control over this in a way that leads to very unrealistic tactics. The system right now is a good compromise from realism, anything further and it would become very arcade feeling.
  2. That sliver is after you should already have disengaged because your ship is fragments of itself. You are un realistically pushing the envelope for what is survivable and suffering the consequences. That said, there are only so many people you can send to work the same pump or plug the same leak, which is already modeled in game.
  3. I think you missed the part that only ships already at sea could join, no undock/teleport/switch to a bigger ship
  4. Yes but not in the way you are implying. With reinforcements arriving and leaving from different directions, over extended periods of time, this would massively break up the way we are used to a std 25v25 battle playing out. It would be much more like if open world allowed combat, with ships heavily spread out unless already carefully grouped. Part what makes battles repetitive feeling is this, you start on your side I start on mine idea. With a constantly growing, shrinking and evolving battle it would play out very differently.
  5. Been bouncing this idea around, hear me out, and I'm open to suggestions. Lastly remember anything we do is a compromise, it's about finding the best way of dealing with this issue. So the basic principal is to completely remove the reinforcement timer, and the battle timer as well, meaning you are free to join the battle indefinitely. However the only ships that could join would be ships ALREADY at sea. In other words, no swapping to a larger ship, no teleporting across the map to reinforce, no hanging out fishing in a trader expecting to join, etc.... etc... The second limitation is a captain could only join once (more on why next) It would drastically affect the feel of battles, no longer would they be artificially isolated duels, but now they could go on all day as ships escape and join the instance hour after hour. Helping to remove that odd feeling of isolation created by havining instances within an open world (tech limitation I know). You could start to have realistacally organic battles play out. Next, there would be an edge to the combat map (though it would still be fairly large), that if you sail outside of you are dropped into Open World. Combine this with removing outright the results screen, and people can try to hide/retreat behind an island but they could still be run down and sunk (the option to escape into OW remaining). This way it keeps players "in the game", while still offering ways to evade and not get "counter tanked" by a fleet waiting outside. Problems I see with it is those with multiple accounts could get around this, however they are few and their joining would hardly disrupt the function of it.
  6. Not in order of importance. 1. Lack of visual diversity in battles, we really need craftable paint, custom banners and flags, 2. Lack of weather which adds to both visual and gameplay diversity. Lots of wind will tear at full sails, almost no wind, heavy fog, waves that can enter gun ports if left open taking on water... 3. Navigation is all but nonexistent, instant GPS, no proper charts and lighthouses to determine approaches to port. Would give us something to do on longer sails, and add to coordination when running after or from someone.
  7. yeah, seems kinda obvious. With luck this will happen eventually with the updated UI.
  8. 1st rates are too cheap (though people already seem to be terrified to sail them), but that said.... I can solo a 1st 2nd or 3rd rate in a 5th rate any day. There is no "bigger is better".
  9. yeah, while I understand given that the scale has been heavily messed with, its a bit silly right now. The land should lose about half of its height. to start with.
  10. so on a a 30 min sail you "save" 3min? You don't mention anything at all about why this should be the case, and how it would impact the game in a positive way apart from "speeding up the game"... which can be both positive and negative depending on your view.
  11. I am totally ok with certain paintjobs being very rare and hard to get, HOWEVER there should still be "common" paint jobs you can apply to boats. This is EXACTLY the variety we need visually in battles right now. It would go a long way to making your ship feel unique and your own. Please Please Please Dev's you can keep some paint jobs rare, but allow us to still have access to at least 5 styles.
  12. if you are sailing side by side with a ship of line without at least an equal one you are doing it wrong. I love teak in lots of ships and do very well with it.... did you know by angling your ship when in a faster and more maneuverable one you can deflect shots? You do realize that positioning as a group and working together literally wins or loses the fight right? Are you seriously implying you would have won the fight had the ships been reversed? I am sure OCEAN could have won the battle with the Bucks you had and nothing else.
  13. I've always been curious what the dialogue was like in SORRY as they sailed from defeat to camping battle screen,.. thanks for reaffirming my suspicions. When you descend as a massive group onto a new player in surprise and sink them, do you think that Sweden is ragging at you? No one cares. Most of the time we don't even bother chasing you because you refuse to fight anything less then 2 to 1 odds, and even then you usually just attack each other to run away.... and on the off chance you decide to "fight" when you have overwhelming odds and still lose, you have more excuses than a pot head in middle school. Denial is not a river in Egypt.
  14. hahahhahaha you had 5x Bucks, a bunch of Consti and Ingers.... seriously you can't spin this. The armor of the first rates is barely better than even a Consti and they sacrifice all speed and maneuverability.
  15. Initially I agreed with this, but now that I think about it I think the main "mass" of cannons is all the ammunition and powder you carry for them. Reducing the weight of the cannons themselves would have only the smallest amount of impact. Maybe make the ship heel slightly less?
  16. There needs to be a minimum time you have spent with a nation to vote, or people can just hop to another nation to mess with the votes. Might not be that big of a deal, but knowing how some players like to exploit game mechanics as much as possible I think this is very important.
  17. I like this, including the crafter of the ship as well. Sure there is likely much to much date to include without it being silly, but I still think there is room for some interesting other bits. Like what nations owned it, what ships it has sank etc..
  18. Some of my ships I've owned since steam launch, they have survived unbelievable fights outnumbered, or been there for the first port battle our nation had. Some ships have been "borrowed" from other nations, and maybe even switched sides several times. Point is many of our ships have quite a story tied to them, I would love for there be a way to see this. Not just kill to death ratio (which would be nice as well), but go past that. I would also hope the dev's have this info logged away and we could have it added to the game in the future, but still get to see where our ships have been and what they have done in the past.
  19. Fixes to acceleration sound fantastic! Keep up the good work. Crew killing sounds a bit too dramatic of a game play change. I don't see it going well. Looking forward to trying it though!
  20. Meh, so you want to strong arm the players that don't want to stay in your nation to stay? Something tells me it won't work that well. You'll just have a bunch of complaining people clogging up chat. I stayed with Sweden when we went down to one port and a lot of people jumped ship, I personally don't miss the people that switched sides. Trimming the fat away is fine with me.
  21. Learn the lesson we all did, if you sail out by yourself anything can happen. Make some friends and sail with them, or learn to deal with it. Its the wake up that everyone goes through that enjoys the game. Once you accept this you realize its part of the fun.
  22. I did a mission once last week because no one was on and I wanted to shoot some guns, a month before that I helped train a new player.... before that I honestly cant remember the last time I went after non player characters. ....I play this game almost every day, and the only ships I fight are other players. I play this game exclusively for the PvP. I have stuck with the game as numbers fell and many I know have disappeared. If however they try to nerf the joyful risk of PvP, then that will finely be the death spell for me. I do not read or have ever cared about steam reviews, when you take the average of a population that takes the time to review then your results will be skewed. DO NOT, adjust the game because of steam reviews.
