What I think is still missing in the game

I thought quite alot about functions and other stuff as I was trying to do some 1:1 IJN builds, so it would be a waste to just let them sit around in my brain and not share them. Maybe its somewhat interesting or inspiring for one of the devs!

1. Multiplayer

Of course every game needs a Multiplayer, well not every, but fun games like UAD would have quite alot of Multiplayer potential. Custom battles against each other with customizable rules, Multiplayer designed Missions where teamwork is essential. For a start it can also run over GameRanger since introducing a friend system and such is a good amount of work ... I think.

2. AA Gunnery

Being able to build AA batteries was something I wanted to do from day one. Having this lovely modern BB with a impressive AA Battery would be a sight to behold indeed. As of now there wouldn't be much use for small caliber AA guns like 20's or 37's and so much more, but it really would be a nice Addition for shipbuilding itself. Aswell if you want to get out a use for them, a Mission where you, for instance, have to protect a Convoy from an Airstrike with a CL (Light Cruiser), or something along the line of the battle of Midway where wave after wave of Torpedo-; Bombers came along and tried their hardest to make a hit that would be devastating. I see this point as having alot of potential, but I can already see that this would be quite a bit of work. Either way I'd be marveled to see something along those lines in-game one day.

3. More HULLS!

As I was doing 1:1 builds of real life ships I noticed just how little unique hulls there are for DDs and CLs/CAs, which is quite the shame as they are also a big part of naval combat. I know that this is also alot of work, modelling the Hulls as accurately as possible, but having Cruiser hulls like for instance for the Cleveland-Class or K-Class and so on, would be quite worthwhile.

4. More Ship customization

Something I also noticed when doing the 1:1 replicas. As it is now, ship building is quite fun, but when using Barbettes it's always this fight of wanting it in the right position but there aren't any placement slots (A bit infuriating when building a Fusō-Class on the Japanese Dreadnaught II hull). Having more control over the Barbettes would be otherworldly, like being able to change their height and width (instead of always having to choose from 20 variants of 1 Barbette), integrating them into the ship hull (as mentioned when building a Fusō-Class on the Dreadnaught II hull. If you aren't sure what i'm implying, search for the IJN Fusō and look at Main Battery Turret 5's Barbette) and just having free placement options with them. Though this point is alot more Customization oriented and not as heavily gameplay important, it's a dream one wishes for.

5. Carriers

Though I have already seen somewhere that introducing CVs isn't planned, it would be marvelous anyways. It also would make Point 2 more valid, since after all, the biggest weakness of a Carrier is AA. But being able to build your own Carriers like for instance a Kaga-Type CV on the Tosa-Class hull, or a Shinano-Type on the Yamato-Class hull. There would be so many options to choose from, but after all, it's alot of troublesome work.

6. Conquest idea

Though I've yet to see anything from the Campaign and how it's gonna play out, i'm just making this point so I don't forget about it. Basically what about a Conquest-like gamemode where you take over the seas? Capture important Military sectors or ports, destroy your enemy fleets and so on. Produce your own ship designs and let them take over the world. Advance your Technology by having Naval Military institutions research over the years for better equipment, armor-types and hulls (kind of like the HoI4 research tree). With different types of conquest goals and being free to choose the country you wish to play.

Something along those lines atleast, having a world domination mode like in Hearts of Iron or Star Wars: Empire at War (weird comparison, I know) would be a treat. But let's see what the campaign is first and maybe this point is nullified by then.

7. File sharing and steam workshop

Something I saw from the user @Skeksisin the comments, which I also wholeheartedly agree to. Though of course the game still has to be released on Steam, it's something that would be nice to look forward to. Aswell I feel as though it could take some weight of the Devs shoulders, as there are probably a few enthusiastic people who would like to model some hulls and other ship parts themselves, on which the devs could also do something similar like Gaijin and do a paid partnership program if the Model is well received and makes it into the base game.

Anyways thats all I have for now. If you have any feedback or ideas to these points, feel free to tell.

Thanks for reading and have luck on your future naval endeavors!

Here's some of my thoughts on these:

1. multiplayer will probably only come after the singleplayer campaign is done, but if it does get added, I see it going one of two ways. Either they ad a bunch of FFA rooms where you build a ship and plop it down into an arena, or a multiplayer (probably LAN first, then online) campaign in which different players play as different powers.

2. depends on if carriers get added, closest thing we have to this are the 2 and 3 inch guns (50 to 76mm).

3. agreed, could use more pre-dreads and dreadnoughts as well (dreadnoughts 2,3,and 4 are all the same except for USA dreadnought 2).

4. I think there should be a balance in customization. too much and new players will be overwhelmed, but enough to make each design feel unique. However, I do agree that some of the hulls can still be a bit restrictive in barbette placement.

5. Amongst those on the forums, I think that about half are cautiously optimistic about carriers and the other half vehemently oppose their inclusion. Personally, I think they should be DLC material or get their own game (Ultimate Admiral: Air Ops??).

6. that basically is the campaign as far as I know, along with some basic diplomacy and politics, i.e. alliances, naval treaties, stuff like that.

My own take:

1. I disagree, best option in my opinion would be co-op. But multiplayer would just offer a world of headaches for the devs, not too mention costs and the constant whinge of having to 'balans' everything. Co-op for 8 players max should be fine too be fair.

2. If Aircraft get added then carriers, then we will see AA guns otherwise atm, best to focus on the surface stuff as the team is quite small and stretched as is.

3. We need a lot of hulls to be fair, especially pre-dreads and ww1 hulls (and between), plus hulls for other classes later on.

4. I would like either a modular hull system or a modular part system at least, but yeah more customisation pls.

5. Im neutral on carriers, although with the amount of work needed just for surface ships still and the game as a whole they should probs include it years down the line or in another version like RTW2 did.

6. Currently, what they are aiming for in terms of the campaign. What some would like is a total war/hoi-4 style campaign as that would be pretty unique too be fair.

Welcome to dah forums btw 'w'/

1) nope

2) nope

3) being added in all updates.

4) "Having more control over the Barbettes would be otherworldly, like being able to change their height and width (instead of always having to choose from 20 variants of 1 Barbette)" And this variants give you different height and width options so i fail to understand this part. More ships customization was being added and imo is already in a very good shape. The priority should be now in focus in releasing the campaign and continue improving the AI design and combat behavior. Of course other players would always want something more.

5) you didn't notice until now that custom battles only goes to 1940? There is a good reason for that. No carriers, no planes, no AAA.

6) irrelevant at this point since we have no idea how the campaign will work.

We actually do, the devs have hinted at it, AND if you check the help section, there are multiple sections in the campaign telling us how things are going to work out.
In short, it's similar to Rule the Waves 1 & 2 so far.

Well when building ships I generally want them to actually look like capable and reliable ship designs that could also look the part in real life. I feel as though having the player themselves optimise the barbette size would rid of the confusion "which of these barbettes do I actually pick ...?" Sure after some time of playing you understand which is the right to use, but moreso my point was being able to integrate it with the ship hull (aswell as being free to place to them along the centerline as one wishes, atleast for the BB Barbettes) like in the attached Image with the Fusou-Class. This may be a more customization like function than anything but I do believe it also helps when optimising space on your Hull.

And yes I have noticed that Custom Battles only go to 1940, I merely said that Carriers would be cool but I also realise that it's unlikely for them to be added. So it's more of a 'would be nice' point which you may have taken too seriously.

Yeah you are right. We have information from the devs about this since the beginning.

I definitely am a huge proponent of having more cruiser hulls and superstructures added especially for light cruisers.  Most nations currently have the same hull and superstructures for their light cruisers,  so nearly all light cruisers look alike.  I would love to build an Atlanta class with the 3 forward firing dual 5 inch, with all three being superfiring.
