Has anyone read the Horatio Hornblower Series? Form C.S. Forester?

Not a novel but a great read. I have a copy of Dudley Pope's 'The Black Ship'. It looks back at the mutiny on board the frigate HMS Hermoine in 1797, She was commanded by Captain Hugh Pigot.  For me this is the worst case of mutiny in the Royal Navy's history and also a study in what can happen when a captain goes off the rails and the powers that be do not pick up on the fact.

I have read the entire Hornblower series as well as all of the Lucky Jack Aubrey/O'Brien books. Oh my but I do love those stories. It's such a tragedy that no one has taken up the challenge of continuing either series. I can't imagine a publisher would mind selling a few more books.

The problem I have with Hornblower is that CS Forester wrote the first one as chronologically in the middle. I did a chronological read through of the series and the change in tone is really jarring. His later works, which are chronologically earlier, are the best ones.
