  1. Website's new address is armsofchaos.wix.com/headquarters Join up lads!
  2. Big changes made to the Black Mongoose Tavern and Forum! The Black Mongoose isn't for AoC Members only, but sailors of all kinds -- there are several boards for public forum members: http://theblackmongoose.freeforums.net/, Including a non-moderated board. Ever had a quarrel with another sailor or group in Naval Action, and found that the language acceptable in a public board just couldn't quite communicate your ire in an adequate fashion? Out Back of The Black Mongoose is the place for you!
  3. I think the largest xebecs could rig up some square sails to take advantage of sailing with the wind, though it was a laborious process. I'd love to see one or two in Naval Action.
  4. Harbor Patrol Day 34: The manatees have accepted me as one of their own.
  5. I think it's interesting, there have always been shadowy organizations and influential groups doing their best to control and manipulate the alrgest amount of people, but the East India Company was kind of the first megacorporation with that kind of power and a ton of it. I think because of the sudden increase in possibility of transportation. Before that communities and people were more or less dependent on local sustainability (farming, etc) to survive, so how could one financial entity gain more than so much power over the essentials to life. Add in the advances in sea trade being able to haul goods without spoiling over seas and it kind of took a leap to where a much larger trade organization could have a certain degree of control over how well people lived. Now look at today, we have plains and vehicles and it's never been more possible for a community or even a country to be completely dependent on foreign influences for its people to literally survive, and today we have more and more wealthy/powerful moneyed institutions all the time.
  6. Do historical fictions count? If so Master and Commander is one of my favorite films of all time. For films based on historical events, I liked The Bounty with Mel Gibson I haven't seen the older versions.
  7. 2/9 was pretty awesome. The season finale is shaping up to be pretty epic. Did NOT see that coming, killing off one of the chief main characters.
  8. I kinda hope it doesn't go longer than 3 seasons, most shows just can't keep things good that long. Exception being Game of Thrones.... but they have amazing books to go off of. And The Walking Dead, it's based on comics. But usually standalone written shows can't go 4 seasons and keep things crispy.
  9. I agree, I had the same kind of experience when I first tried looking into it on their website, ended up going to Youtube to figure out what the hell the game actually was lol.
  10. Actually the last episode Vane and Flint hook up and rule Nassau together.
  11. e08 though. Aaaaw yeah, time for Vane to start kicking some ass!
  12. I will say I like where they're taking Anne Bonnie into psycho kill everybody mode.. But I thought she should have been captaining the other pirate ship Jack ran into, like, she took over a crew from Nassau and went after the same mark, then they'd have to confront each other...
  13. I was disappointed with E6. Like, the fight at the beginning between the two biggest rival main characters just kind of had them rolling around and then ended within half a minute... that should have been the most epic climactic brawl yet, all over the building, out in the street, picking random weapons up, beating the ever-loving shit out of each other until both are too weak to even stand up.. THEN proceed with the story. Like when Vane fought that huge guy toward the end of Season 1, that fight was badass. And Jack... they haven't really done anything to tie his story in with the main conflict he's just out trying to make it for himself he doesn't have any link to the Spanish gold yet or the big plots determining Nassau's fate so it's like why should I care about this guy? I don't know, I felt at the edge of my seat all the way up to the end of E5 and then all the conflict that had been building up just dropped itself.
  14. Anyone been following season 2 so far? That twist in episode 5 tho O_O I did not see that coming a mile away. A lot of ppl are pissed but I was pleased to actually be surprised by a tv series xP Really bold move, then the end when it throws you right from this really peaceful moment into surprise action... really good stuff, good writing, good screenplay. That may have been the peak though episode 6 kinda lowered in the conflict and intensity at least to me... They could've waited till later for the big reveal I kinda feel like they played all the big cards in the first half of Season 2 now there's just a steady downhill resolution. But yeah, I like the series didn't as much when I first started watching was just a ton of fan service and almost no... well, naval action
  15. One of the best games ever. It's always amazed me that in all these years nothing I've played in the 3d space rts category comes close to matching it.
  16. Hmmm well I started a thread about whaling: http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/3171-whaling/ But then, I got the idea from a post in another thread so...
  17. It would be awesome to have all of these wind conditions in the game eventually.
  18. You have a point about smaller battle groups and longer wait times. The problem the devs are facing is that the smaller ships aren't being played as much. I don't think the current damage progression system would have to change at all even though progressing players would be less likely to use it. I could see random battle mode being used mainly by the players that have unlocked all of the ships. But you could just give random battle mode a general damage boost to encourage use by mid-progressed players I suppose.
  19. I guess the way I was thinking, it would choose randomly from only the ships you've unlocked. So no change to the progression system.
  20. I mentioned in another thread regarding sea trial changes that a random ships battle mode might be a good way to help some of the less tested ships get more attention and a few people seemed to think it wasn't a bad idea. Is a random ships battle mode something the community would participate in for sea trials? That is: a battle mode say "pvp light random" and/or "pvp random", in which you enter and for the battle get put in a random ship of the ones you've unlocked, and the system calculates after assigning ships how to split them for even sides? If people would play it, would theoretically test all of the ships evenly.
  21. Yeah well as I understand it they have a top level universe server that manages millions of npcs or AI occurrences that aren't necessarily being rendered except when players come into contact with them, it communicates that info down to the solar system and player area servers that are doing the rendering, and in turn those servers communicate back up the pipeling what is happening as a result of player actions. So the whole universe behaves like a single "living" entity with everything happening in real time and effecting the entire rest of the universe in real time
