  1. So. CHAT / communication does not affect my "gameplay"???? Nation / Battle chat is an integral part of the gameplay and play experience. It a an ON-Topic issue, just to put it right. By no means, Galileus, you are going to win this argument on this one... if you don´t have tools of communication (like chat) you start the game as a single player and stay as a single player...and very early on, you can get harrassed in NA, even in a small battle. It is an on-topic-issue...if you like it or not...
  2. Jetzt geht alles kreuz und quer. Mein "statement": The economics of Naval action ist kein einfaches Thema. The economics of Naval action from a Dutch viewpoint" weitere Quellen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_economy http://www.amazon.com/Virtual-Economies-Design-Analysis-Information/dp/0262027259
  3. So, it is an "off topic" - discussion !? I don´t mind, as long as it´s getting viewed...but I don´t see the point? As long as the TAVERN is frequently "clicked" and viewed, fine, but right now, it feels like putting a topic to the graveyard....putting it to bed. It is a general discussion topic, worth to be discussed by the community of players.
  4. Please, ADMINS / MOD ! Why do you keep pushing topics of me into "TAVERN" ! (happened the 2nd time, first time higly justified, but not this one....) It is a General Discussion Topic ! AND NOT a topic of "Naval Action: Age of Sail Historical Discussions" It is one of the reasons I stopped "sailing as a captain in this game..."
FREIHEIT!
  6. Please watch this (might be approved by Mod / Admin or be removed). I might have put it to suggestions, as there are many great ideas in it how to tackle the problem... Come discuss this topic ! (share your views and experiences)
  7. COOOLLLLLLLL!!!!!
  9. Even though, the question has been considered as answered, I am still asking myself (Before the Beaufort Scale, there was Defoe's Scale of Winds...) What was before Defoe's Scale of Winds. Was there any kind of measure??? (The first known description of an anemometer was given by Alberti in 1450) There was an anemometer...
  12. I am still figuring out anything about question 1 and there comes another question... http://www.vos.noaa.gov/MWL/aug_08/navigation_tools.shtml http://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Journals/TAPA/82/Speed_under_Sail_of_Ancient_Ships*.html Imagine, confronting the players in NA with these playing conditions... --------- "Wind conditions were often bad enough to force a vessel to stop at an intermediate port for days or weeks or even months. It took Cicero three weeks to cross from Patras to Brindisi in 50 B.C." ---------
  13. Because there is something in the game, which I consider being "senseless", and I ask for some "reasonable" connection to a faction by introducing new ships, you consider my argument being invalid by pointing on something in existence (which does not make sense). Interesting.
  14. >>Aswering should be as concise as possible and wherever possible share the source and link for the books ( this helps a lot to increase our own personal libraries ). >>Always give an answer quoting the Question. If several answers are posted it should quote like a pyramid - with all previous answers also included. Is "questioning" any answer being allowed? The question was, Question: How was wind speed measured during this time frame ? (What do you mean by "time frame"? 1600 -1820?) Answer: Beaufort Scale, question answered from 1805-1820 What was before?
  16. Don´t like it. The Tavern is a subforum of Naval Action: Age of Sail Historical Discussions. May I post something related to boardgames covering AGE of SAILS, fine. But, if this is open to EVERYTHING one likes, I might open a thread on WARHAMMER GAMES. I heavily protest against any content on warfare, which goes beyond the age of sails (like WW1 or WW2) Go and sign up for HEARTS of IRON 4, if you want to play fleets made out of iron and not wood. --------- --------- Okay, calmed down... If you are interested in this period, I recommend the "Great War" channel, here is a link....enough material which does not need to be discussed here...
  17. Yes, but only if there is a Brandenburg faction, would be "senseless", if there is no connection to a faction.
  18. Russia will be in the game anyway. Later. As plans for this game head into the direction of "uprising" and form new nations, or either linking it to new maps (Baltics, Europe), Russia will conquer colonies in the Carribean (and Poland?). So. In terms of "historical accuracy", it is vital to set a good starting point heavily linked to the historical setup at this special point. THe information given: "You can sail under the flag of nations that historically had presence in the Caribbean (had at least one port from 1600 to 1830)" is too broad and open in my opinion. Further, there is a clear focus on ships in the late 18th centruy. What comes after is in player´s hand (certainly leading to Spain´s fall, as there will be never enough players) Another approach would be, to lead the game a "historical path", aiding certain factions with AI-events or fllets invading, therefore forcing the game to "replay" a historical time period. I believe, this is not on the list. I put my money on it, that one day you will see Brandenburg-Prussia / Courland and Russia in the Carribean....
  19. It´d be nice, if you provided some source / links...thx
  20. http://sailsofglory.org/showthread.php?3355-Overview-of-Osprey-s-quot-Fighting-Sail-Fleet-Actions-1775-1815-quot http://www.amazon.de/Fighting-Sail-Actions-1775-1815-Wargames/dp/1472807707 So, I put this one on the list.... Sails of Glory starterpack, Flying Colors, Close Action 1805: Seas of Glory & Fighting Sail - Fleet Actions 1775-1815 Not a bad research and collection so far...good work guys...
