  1. Basic cutters should simply be not available beyond a certain level anyway. Same for small battles...they are just annoying and only used for that purpose... Nice idea STEELFURY. My POLL http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/12224-ship-crafting-restricted-for-every-nation/ heads into this direction, trying to give more incentives for real PvP without the PB-mechanics...
  2. You need to read the post correctly. I wrote "If I am a solo player", I am not and I do craft. Labour hours get offered (the complicated way) oftenly via chat.
  3. As I said, some minor adjustments needed....I doubt, it is planned by the Devs and I am not sure, if the community liked the restriction and/or the incentive being associated with....
  4. Having played the game for some time and witnessed some lack of incentives for players to engage in open world PvP (apart from annyoing others or assisting PortBattles), I had some "fancy" idea, either to find out how the community might react to the suggestion or to enhance the PvP-gameplay. Also, I catched up on the idea that every nation should have a certain "feel", making it special and distinguishable to every other nation. Starting from this page and having looked at the ingame-shipyard (s. attachement) http://www.kotiposti.net/felipe/England/england.html, I thought about the topic "ships per nation" (what´s in the game actually, historically). What happened, if every nation could only CRAFT their respective ships only? Let´s go through the following list: All: Basic Cutter, Brig, NavyBrig France: Rennomee, Belle Poule, USA: Lynx, Niagara, Constitution Sweden: Yacht Denmark (Russia): Mercury, (Cherubim) Frigate, St. Paul, (Ingermanland) Spain: Santisima Trinidad Pirates: none (Pirate Frigate) Dutch: (Amsterdam) Great Britain: Cutter, Pickle, Snow, Cerberus, Trincomalee, Bellona, Victory Assuming for now, Pirates will not be allowed to craft (maybe Pirate Frigate and for ALL ships) but refit ships, crafting national ships (and for ALL ships) only would certainly limit SWEDEN / DUTCH / SPAIN. Therefore, I´d bring in 1-2 ships for Spain/Dutch, skip Sweden (or Dutch) for now and rename Denmark to Russia (why not? or call it Baltic alliance or whatsoever). Try to balance things out, finding a compromise and start from here. Skip Sweden and add further nations / spots in the game as buyable DLC (Sweden + ships, or Venice + ships) based on consumer wishes and polls. If you did that, if you restricted every nation just to a couple of ships (2-3 for ALL and 2-3 extra national ships) what might happen? Certainly some nations would be favoured (they have better ships), but as numbers count right now ingame this is not a big factor. Assuming, I am a French player, I´d certainly fancy going for PvP to catch the famous Victory or another ship. I´d also made me feel pretty special if I managed to capture an American Constituion. Why should I have an incentive as a Spanish player to set sails for Dutch waters or even French waters? Because, there is something out there for me, I have never seen before, the well-known Rennomee, supposedly tha fastest ship in the game. Also, Pirate Raids made a factor now, as Clans have a target now heading for Dutch/French/US waters. It just makes a difference now, if I torment the British or really set sails to blockade Willemstad and bring home 10 special Dutch ships (sounds a bit like Viking raids...). Also, loosing a special national ship to the enemy would make me really feel bad about... Yes, war for ressources (as it seems to head that direction), but also war for ships is thinkable... What do you think? Any discussions welcome....
  5. Here we go, I am happy that I am not a developer, nor an administrator...purple sails... Dear Administrator, I surrender !!!
  6. I am not complaining nor "whining" ) if u check the posts, take it as it is, I am fine with the money spend...) I did make some contributions. (especially do i believe in the DLC policy...) and also understand that Santissima for the Spanish only....hm....why would this not work? You can capture the ship as being English and keep it? Thinkin about it again, I do believe it is 100% !!! workable. Pirates = no crafting, purely capture and own and refit the ships Nations = limited to crafting their 2-3 national ships, rest can be captured only...this would invent a massive "incentive" to the game to go for PvP and raids...and keep your Santissima as a Dane you heroicly captured from a lonely Spaniard during a night raid...okay, I am dreaming... Also, this could make the SERVERS different from each other. Why not play this style on PvP servers, PvE go for the "we craft all" route...??? I just have the feeling, that the game will not develop the way I want it. Nothing wrong with me raising my voice as 1000 others do it also. But surely, I am not about to spoil the party for anyone here. If the majority of Pirates are happy the way it is, I have no problem with it. Also, I understand that most players are more interested on focussing on ship technology "DO I want to see this awesome ship in battle"?, then caring about historical gameplay. (Oh sure, I did read the shipyard thread...), If the most want to see the awesome ship of the line of Peter the Great in battle, the Ingermanland, so let it be. I do not need to like it, sorry for being sarcastic about this topic. For me, it simply does not make any sense. as I am part of the narrative (roleplaying) type of player. I just simply don´t get the story then anymore. And no, I do not intend to insult others (kids, I am one myself, surely, thats why I play), these, you get ingame a lot (please, invent deactivat battel chat), the reason I stopped playing PvP and do only grind money through trade. Many, many seem enjyoing insulting other players.... And yes, if you want to silence critics, here we go. I will stop posting....
  7. Intelligent guy, I must say....appreciate your efforts. A bunch of good ideas and some bad ones (Port battles?) Let me focus on Trade ships (yes, Pirates I agree...but I presume---no changes....we will see) -Abolish AI traders. At least, as they stand anyway. Replace them with player-driven AI traders. YES, maybe. But there are useful to balance prices and supply/demand. We don´t have the DATA to know about... -Your traders might be captured by the enemy. They might be sunk. You'll have to be careful where you let them sail. HAPPENED once to me. I´d love to be captured, but happened once in the beginning as I was panicing and did not know about pressing the "rescue button" (=call in reinforcements). Trading goods from A to B is with no risk and you simply cannot call it PvP. It is just plain money grind and I did it every day to grind money. Now, having introduced the production buildings this does not feel right anymore, more like a waste of time. I do grind money now logging in every 3 days and retract ressource and sell them....well. Having been caught as a Pirate by a British PvP-fleet was the best experience I had in the game. 270k in goods being "killed" by the enemy, wow. How could we get this into the game? Hm.... 1. idea: Keep the mechanics "sailing from A to B on a Traders Brig/Snow" to make money. With no reinforcement mechanics, give the player a choice to call in reinforcements from nearby Ports, after being tagged into Battle. How? Asumming, as a Pirate I want a trip from A to B. Before the trip I "insure" my cargo buying a contract at Port A from the local government, I can choose how COSTLY this might be. (Full package = 1-3rd rates, medium package = 3 Frigates, everything is thinkable...) therefore depending on my cargo I have some sort of gamble here. The same applies to the enemiy, they spot me, the instant battle opens and they don´t know if I have a contract calling in big reinforcements. Nor do they know the size of my cargo. I can call reinforcements, depending on the distance there might be a "timer", they arrive on time or not. So, I might be unlucky. Also I could think of automatic trips, hiring a merchant to do the trip for me, making it more costly, but therby I could have a Port Battle instead. Also, I could think of "joining the battle" if the traders get attacked to add more fun due to playable reasons. 2. idea: Keep the mechanics "sailing from A to B on a Traders Brig/Snow" to make money. With no reinforcement mechanics, give the player a choice to call in reinforcements from nearby PLAYERS, after being tagged into Battle. How? A window opens I call in ALL Pirates to help me for a certain amount "bounty" (100k? or depending on BR), if they help me. All Pirates get this message in a window. (right now, you get in chat windows) and can figure out if they can make it until the instance closes. If they make it and do some significant damage they get the bounty from me. Also, this could make this ship letters valuable now for the enemy, they get important messages of Trade ships heading from A to B. Lots of variants are thinkable....
  8. Well, SIr, If you claim it is only about the AGE OF SAILS (which the homepage claims...) right, but if you also claim it is "Currently it is a Grand Wargame with no limitations - pure sandbox" then it is completely misleading. The homepage http://www.navalaction.com/#open-world says.... "You can sail under the flag of nations that historically had presence in the Caribbean (had at least one port from 1600 to 1830) Britain France Spain United States Denmark Holland Sweden" assuming that there is some sort of "historical" connection. Why did the devs care about history if they finally want to mix everything up??? You need to get the concept right and make a decision. Either you stick to some sort of Carribbean setting and historical relations or "open" the sandbox with no limitations. Then, yes, do the majority community votings (which I believe are not always good) and bring in everything into the game. For RvR-reasons, it might help to balance the game. Bring in Venice, Ottoman Empire, Brandenburg/Prussia and Russia as nations into the carribean to balance the RvR-battles and the corresponding ships. But dont mislead the customer with claims like "historically had presence in the Caribbean". If you want "fantasy gaming", here you go. A historical, well-looking map might not help. Sadly, if you go this way, it is another game that stupifies the individual. Another American kid will believe that all European nations had been in the Carribean by that time to fight for ressources. Why not add Russian/German troops into http://www.ultimategeneral.com/ ??? OFC you listen to the customer/market and those kids want Russian/Brandenburg/Venetian/Ottoman ships to be in action. But this kills the game and any Carribean "feel". Not talking of the "Pirates".... What remains, a run-and-gun-game that can only be played in "small battles", turning it into a copy of World of Tanks or Total War Arena. The Open World concept is broken then and is only fantasy gaming on a historical looking Carribean map.... I feel like a bit "misled" by the studio, assuming I´d sail only ships who historically had been sailing there by that time. Maybe I should have watched more youtube-vids and researched more about the ships. Well, my wrongdoing. Finally, stay away from Alpha-games, if you don´t want to buy a pig in a poke.
  9. Would be interesting to find out why this game is so awesome....put the awesome graphics aside for a moment... well, the feeling being a Pirate is really special. Played many "Pirate games" in my life, but nothing comes close... yes, even Sid Meiers Pirates cant compare....ups, I am getting sarcastic now. Right now, you cannot simply call it a "game". Its run and gun and grind....no content...XP fleet grind, PB grind...1st rate grind....yes sailing is fun....nice...but thenI could also look out for a "sailing simulator" (hm, good idea, is there on on the market?).... We will see, if it hits the market in 2 years....
  10. Argument not valid. Every other ressource is being traded. So should labour hours be. Clans/groups benefit greatly in any way by organising things, making items cheaper. If I am a solo player, the only way I can get money out of "labour hours" (assuming I dont want to craft ships, but buy them instead) is simply crafting NOTES and sell them. Here we go, "stupid clicks" again.... The idea is straightforward and should be implemented.
  11. There is only ONE way this game can survive or be "succesful": START it again, keep the basic battle mechanics, and rework the concept of the open world, Port Battles, RvR and so on....this can never work.... - If you want a game, like, we sell it, make it good looking and want all players to leave after 1-2 month, it works well - If you want a Top seller and an MM turn up with a concept, some tutorials, and a DLC concept... I suspect you are looking for the first and then go for the fast money, adding Premium ships...... This game had potential to be awesome, but I suppose, can never work for players looking for hardcore gaming (what you can expect looking at Gettysburgh)....
  12. I would like to see: 1) a feature allowing me to "disable" the Battle chat. I am tired of, "you can s*** my d*", too many nerds around in the game.... 2) single player mode 3) a company choosing the DLC route, add new features by selling DLCs (like Paradox studios), no subscription and don´t do Premium ships, please. Add content over DLC. 4) change of Pirate mechanics 5) a feature allowing to hire AI MERCs for special missions (I want to sink a friend) for a huge amount of money...this could be fun 6) more historical gameplay. Don´t bring in "new" fantasy nations. The Ottomans are great, but had no business to do, try to expand the game and split it into 2 different historical settings or add the North-Sea / Baltics for the Russian market.... and so on....
  13. Limit at 25 vs. 25 + BR rating? (could work) The idea of BR rating is nice.... But I guess those boys want the big guns and those massive battles...shame the Privateer/Snows are of no use....
  14. Nice ideas Antwoord. Unfortunately, nothing so creative will happen for the "pirate nation". The game will not change so quickly, believe me... Me too, 500h of waiting to play as a pirate... so boring grind machine the game right now....
  15. Guys, you all take this way tooo serious ! It is a GAME in ALPHA, furthermore you don´t work here, nor can you OWN anything.... if you want to build a HOUSE, do it in real life. You have no rights to own (general terms and conditions) and possess nothing here, if they want to take all ships from you, they DO so. It is ALPHA and even after you have no property rights (never) at PC games..... Just take the blows....
  16. Able seaman is right, too. The new patch tells the story. There will be so much work to do to balance even little changes. I suppose there will be no place for our perfect "Pirate MMO-dream" in the future. It will take 1-2 years. I personally enjoy Sid Meier´s game and if I have the feeling to need to fight with big guns I turn to Naval Action Small battles for 30 minutes. Time will tell. Guys, dont GRIND ! Waste of time...
  17. >>Wouldn't it be far more fun to have nations in the game with historically accurate ships, unique abilities, and played completely different than other nations with different goals and interests? Wouldn't be far >>more fun to feel like you belonged to that nation and roleplay a captain living as they did in the age of sail with the same concerns, worries, and missions? And to be able to play as different nations to >>have a completely different game experience? Yeah, Blackie my man ! But...maybe we need just accept what the market for PC games gives you. They need to follow this way as they need to penetrate the market. The ideal situation.... 1. a real game in the Golden Age of Pirates would exclude Russians and also Americans. No Ingermanland 3rd rate or St. Pavel and no American Constitution. Of course, living in an ideal world, the Devs could have 3 games 1. real Golden Age of Pirates (with Spanish Galleons and so on) 2. later Carribean setting (covering US market) 3. North-Sea Baltic encounter (covering German/Russian/Scand./UK market) As far as I know, they were thinking of... I can remember when they launched Total War Arena, I was hugely dissapointed to see Leonidas fight next with Ceasr in one battle group. Later on, Arminius alongside the Romans....ah ! Imagine, a TW title ! Basically, the majority of players don´t care about history, as long as it´s fun. The RvR concept never really lasted for long as far as I know (Dark Age of Camelot, Warhammer...), it is repetitive and can basically only be kept alive with further loot incentives (or rewards like titles...). Also the subscription model failed. So, there will be either Premium ships or a cash shop providing the much wanted costumizing features for the guilds/clans. As far as learned from the posts, the majority of sailors are quite happy with "new" ships, no matter if they fit into the game historically. As long as they are special... It is as it is and you cannot change it. What I learned from over 20 years of PC-gaming is....stay away from any kind of MMO games, you will either end up being braindead or....well. Having said this, I am tired of being insulted by players over the chat (I cannot mute), sailing off with my nearly dead Frigate to a Trinc ("coward"') or players find pleasure in trolling of any kind. Just wasting my time....cannot remember when I last had an even PvP-battle.... Basically, the most seem to find great pleasure in humiliationg others and pretend to be a great Admiral. Those "armchair-generals" are the majority of player I suppose. Just think of the grind for being able to attend Port Battles. 3rds and upwards. Rest stay outside and do something for a so called "pirate nation". Those hugely addicted armchair-generals spend 12+ hours in the game every day or played it since 1 year to give them the advantage to lead the clans. The only thing I am interested in is, when will this kind of grind come to an end? All on Santissimas/Victories and then? Dont expect any sort of "content" in an MMO. If you want content design your own boardgame or play an existing one. Just only the amount of time you put into this game to sail from A to B is...I tested it today....just went my odd trading route to pick up demanded goods, all the way back. 2,5 hours. And I did it over the last 2 weeks, every day. Actually, there is nothing else to do in the game, as I am reluctant to keep grinding XP (so called XP fleeten) for the next higher ship. It is the USS Constitution and here my Pirate career must stop. Size and the late construction time of this ship simply does not fit into my head. Not working with a Pirate life. Fantasy. So, what else to do? Collect millions over trading? Hm...what for? Repetitive, boring... No, put the game to bed and lets see what they bring in over the next couple of years.... In the meantime, I bought Sid Meiers Pirates over Steam, and yes, it is a good game. I played it as a school boy. Good game, which gives me some Pirate feel I am missing here. Worth every penny... there it makes sense to stick to the sloop/Brige-Pirate ship, less Crew, less Gold to share with as a captain. In Naval Action, I am about to own production buildings, ups?? I want a tavern...and renegades... Cheers.
  18. Well, sounds nice.... But, honestly. Having listened to 2 big German clans in the "pirate nation" and joined one...it is all about XP fleeting and grinding and getting stronger for Port Battles. This "grind" is the driving force and motivation of all players. Nothing wrong about that... The PRIVATEER is a fantastic pirate ship, but do you honestly believe anyone would join me to go to BRITISH waters to get sunk by gangbanging Frigates? Nope. Not being able to master the Privateer/Snow and small group fighting in these ships, all are driven to get BIG and strong in RANK. It is a shame, but why should I craft another exceptional Privateer to get speed instead of stiffness, as it is of no use? Remembering, the clan leader was laughing at me when I said, I am going to hunt Danish Trade ships in my Privateer, as truly only size 3rd rate count in this game. I am relucant to join the grind and even the TRINC is far too big for my Pirate feel. I just dont like it. And another downside of having launched Pirates as a nation whilst allowing them to attack each other is that you get abused and hunted down by the big clans if you do so. (comment: There are always "a***" who dont play for the common cause, the Pirate nation...") No, I cannot play the game I want to. I´d mean every time I left Mortimer town, KOTO and others would kill me. Having experienced that, I stopped looking for other Pirates. Okay, then get an outpost in Dutch waters. Ah, someone want to join me? Nope. Having done that, how long will you make it before they hunt you down? Okay, we need 10 Privateers and some Snow. Never ever would I be able to get a group of players doing such business. Let´see, if they manage to make a GAME out of this. Honestly, I do believe It is too late to turn the wheel back. You simply cannot take away the big toy from the kids. The grind needs to be there and this can only be fed in the future with adding more ships players want to have... At least it will take a year to have a game. I remain sceptical. W.
  19. THis game is a massive grind machine. Does not matter if I play British or pirates. As long as the TELEPORT is there, I dont need to worry about my TRADERS SNOW being captured by anyone. Therefore, Pirates never have any chance to capture a big fish in the open waters. Majority of PLAYERS don´t like to loose anything, and that is the way it is constructed. A massive grind to get a Santissima/Victory and as far as I experienced in TS, players only are driven by that. Any effort to create a pirate mission (like I did, set a bounty on a Dutch player I know) are in vain. Too much effort, no reward and to complicated. So, lets XP FLEET !!! omg Stop dreaming boys....
  20. After having read so many posts, I come to the conclusion: Replace the "nations" and name them green faction, black faction, red faction and so on....apart from the housing (coastline), there is nothing special about any, so called "nation". It is simply a fantasy game, let them colour their ships, give the clans a housing and branding/naming system and flags. Bring in the Ingermanland/Russian 3rd rate and mix time periods and vessals from different nations altogether. This game is so far from being called "historical naval war action" that any kind of discussion is obsolet. People want lighthouses, stars and whaling and as long as it "rocks" the cannon fires awesomly, 90% of the player I talked to give a damn about history and dont have a clue about what the pirate life was..... Well, I guess the nations are there for marketing reasons. Somehow, players have some sort of reason to fight for their ports. That the Santissima can be craftet by everyone, do I need to say anymore? This game has the potential to be a cash machine, because only of the battle mechanics. And the DEVS would be will advised to keep it the way it is, penetrate the market, please Americans and Russian players, bring in the US Const. and Ingermanland and skip the Danish ships (that must have been there in the region....). As it is so far away from the real world, why should I put energy into suggestions for playing Pirates ? In a massive m. online game, there can be NO historical-warfaring (a sceptical conclusion). Sad, but might be true....
  21. Exactly, and this is not provided by the game anvironment, nor supported by the Pirate community. Everyone laughs their a* off, If I sail on my PRIVATEER, being ranked Ravanger, and if I might attack a Pirates Traders Brig I get instantly blacklisted and hunted down by KOTO and other clans on their 3rd rates ! 3rd rates, a joke. Dont get me wrong, I have nothing against Russian and their ships, but bringing Russian ships into the Carribean is just marketing, well it is, so what? Of course, the Spanish should have the Santissima and no one else. Even the Danish and Swedish had enough warships to select from to make this a real game, but right now, it is mixing everything together, time periods and nations. It makes no sense at all and so I only play "small battles", at least small ships are of some use there. The world outside is basically a massive WoW-grind. I am too old for this boys.... But I am not complaining, I like the small battles, still good value for money, but dont expect your dreams come true. There will never be a "real" pirate feel with this Jack Sparrow generation....
  22. I agree to BLACKIE and his suggestions. Playing PIRATES is hugely frustrating as I personally feel "NERFED" in the sense that I cannot play as a true pirate. How can the devs can create such an amazing battle machine and fail to launch a true game in the open world? MY BEAUTIFULLY crafted PRIVATEER is of no use, and thats the reason the game is already "nerfed" for me.... I am reluctant to sail anything beyond Frigate, and right now the game forces me to GRIND only for a 3rd rate.... For me, the GAME is OVER, as simple as that. And yes, replying to this guy ("I will deinstall the game if I cannot craft a 3rd rate", for sure, I deinstall the game if I CAN do so....) The game will be taken over by the kids and, of course, kids WANT IT ALL and NOW and for everone. The MARKET forces the devs to remain the game this way and they will introduce more bullshit to the game (as PREMIUM SHPIS later on). Just imagining they introduce the Ingermanland (Russian) into the Carribean makes me .......uahaha..... Well, there is no FEEL to the play as a Pirate as there is no FEEL to be British or Dutch in particualr. Why not restrict the nations to their original ships? And here is the answer....the market forces them to open up the game for ALL, anyone wants it all and unlimited at every time....thats the main reason why there will be no sophisticated gaming experience. It is just the area of sandbox and WoW-gaming and not of historical-realistic naval action. It is a shame, but I personally found pleasure in watching all documentary films on Pirates and the age of sails while brainlessly sailing for hours with no interaction or fear getting caught...... Despite, the 37 Euro was well spent for the odd experience (I did not know that the Danish and Swedish had colonies !), I put the game to bed and will have a look at it in 1 years time.....
