  1. I am massively pro this change. Its a great step to limiting 1st rate mania. All the people crying about it down t seem to realise you dont HAVE to sail the biggest ship possible. You can sail every ship and have fun. If you NEED to sail a 1st rate then fine, grind your way up to it, but be ready to either hug it in port ["my precious!"] because you are too scared to sail it, or to sail it, possibly lose it and then tear your hair out. Losing a 1st rate was no joke. And the more this game reflects that the better. They should be brought out for the big boy battles and there should mucho pain on all sides as they are lost.
  2. well actually i mean more that chasing should be distance based, and that chasers would just allow a chaser or chasee to do damage in the meantime. so a good tag in a fast ship, you could just ejhad straight for enemy at best speed an hope to close distance to "engagement range" so the couldn't escape, rather than having to get a ship with chasers to allow constant tagging...
  3. Yes, chaser ships have an advantage with being able to damage ships as they pursue but it would be good that really fast ships didn't need to "tag" to keep a ship in a fight. I. E an distance escape circle that meant no count down timer starts? Currently you can be gaining on a ship hand over fist but it can still "escape"
  4. Good idea and a further way to discourage people constantly sailing about in 1st rates etc
  5. Great Idea. Then Port Raids and PVP can really mean something.... Each "incident" adds war points with a certain cool down (eg port raid + 50 points for a week) and ocne threshold is passed then its war. Raids on regional capitals count for more, etc etc.. Also I am a big fan of the idea of more raids and MUCH less port flipping. Well done devs... I have a whole thread about war and who controls diplomacy HERE
  6. zomg, the excitement.... But the original patch note mentions some gun and crew tweaks but nothing about land.... then he posts pics of land in battles! Did Wind hit the rum too hard? Or Is there land in this coming patch? Or is this a "pre-land" but a few other tweaks only patch....
  7. I heard rumours of a mid April patch, is land going to be involved, or will that be a ship release and a tweak or two? or does it not even exist?
  8. Why are people so harsh? Game is developing nicely. If he had waited a DAY or so, he would have found Essex, Niagara, Grosse Vente and Ingermaland, and who knows what next....
  9. So basically you have seen players surrender when they feel it is appropriate to surrender...
  10. Forcing negatives is pointless I think. Some mods have appropriate negative sides currently and it's a reasonable system.
  11. Yes currently, deep water Port Battle is the only reason for power leveling as it's the only part of the game where you just can't join in otherwise...
  12. I have said what a great job I think the devs are doing before but I want to repeat it post recent patch. I think they are doing a great job moving what was already an awesomely done "base game" alpha forward. They are listening to the community, but not pandering to it, and keeping their vision of what they wanted.. a "realistic" Age of Sail game. The crew updates were great and more importantly the timer reduction to 2 minutes plus the "into the wind" sailing change where zero speed = zero turn made the act of sailing much more of a challenge and MUCH more fun.. You really have to plan ahead how and where you sail...just like you would in a ship. It's GREAT! Even when i was floundering in the wind getting wrecked by an AI ship, I was celebrating how good it was! Reading and using the wind is now much more part of the games combat, so it actually feels like Age of Sail, not World of Warships. Also the promise of more crew changes . officers and morale, plus LAND in battles and port battles... I cant wait (well I can actually - keep doing it right and in your own good time!) So far so awesome!
  13. Spain's perfidious forces attempted to assault the peace loving RN forces south of Cuba yesterday, and purchased an assault flag. Fortunately an Australian Colonial RN Naval attachment spearheaded by the honourable Vykorie and myself were patrolling the seas to keep the King's peace. We saw the intended assault brewing and pursued then drove off the Spaniard who had hoisted the banner to assault, resulting in a failed Spanish project (yet again). Also a mention for the brave Captain Hiram who kept a powerful Spanish patrol at bay singlehandedly in his frigate, allowing our patrol to sweep up the Spanish attempted assault unimpeded. Following this mishap for Spain, Santanillas was reclaimed by the RN in a well run operation...
  14. Also note, he didn't say WHICH Thursday or Friday.... 8)
  15. Our yards arms will soon bend with the weight of pirates hanging from them...
  16. The OP made the error of referring to a pirate nation and peace. The King and his Royal Navy plus and good citizen of Britain would NEVER have dealings with the pirate hoard. As for the other nations, peace deals come and go, and judging by the game so far, it's mainly go!
  17. It's all exciting times. To those desperate to play the updated version, take a week off and log in then and hope!
  18. yep, trying to log in and big queue to log in and only 1100 players on.... in fact player pop seems to be dropping as it was around 1300 a few minutes a go....
  19. Verseaux, I am speaking with no real tech information, but it seems to me that stuck rudders wouldn't be that likely? I would think that majority of "destroy" damage to rudders would be either destroyed totally, or control ropes to rudder destroyed so no actual control of it? Perhaps a cannon ball lodged into a "steering" rudder would force it to become stuck til it could be dislodged....?
  20. She's a good woman and Master Keith does good work for his flock
  21. It's undisciplined American crews running amuck that caused this sad situation to develop. Many of the good British citizens at home feel that the American "navy" are like unruly children with no experience, no discipline and no guiding principles and moral grounding. While I don't wholly share this view and am an admirer of Yankee enthusiasm, I do believe US efforts are better directed on your own shores or fighting the Indians navy.
  22. Thanks to our American friends for listening to my heartfelt appeal. The peaceful exploration forces of the RN have successfully protected the citizens of Mugeres from the incursions of lost American sailors causing havoc. God Save the King!
  23. I thought they were all rapists and murderers though?
  24. Ah the irony of the "freedom loving" rebels longing to crush small islands into imperial 'protectorates' while using a slave based economy to enrich them selves. One of the many reasons why his Majesty wants to extend his protection to the region. He can't bear to think of these poor people under the dreadful yoke of American Imperial "freedom".
