  1. Semi joking but NA is LONG and if you get engaged you cant get out of fights and with enw reps fights can take ages too.... Now logging off can obviously be abused as a tactic, but some people NEED to go to bed after a fight and cannot then just then re-engage the next round of combat from a friend or after having escaped from an encounter etc. Having to go to bed doesnt mean I want to throw away my ship! Perhaps a "go to bed logout" that can be used in an instance after battle is over or while invisible after having escaped a battle, that will allow a safe logout BUT NOT ALLOW relogging in for 8 hours? Just an idea?
  2. How will this affect chain for chasers? As they only use 2 (usually) shots per load? Or will it only affect broadsides?
  3. Funnily enough i just posted something directly relevant to this : I think this can only be successfully addressed if the points about sails use and rep kits for sails are also addressed. in theory though I dont think its a bad idea limiting chain ammo. please have a read and let me know your thoughts Sails & Sail Damage and the Current Combat model Thread
  4. Just to be clear regarding the note, it wouldn't let me craft the Note into a ship, nor could I sell the note. As for Fenris, err, this IS the suggestions forum, and I am suggesting a way to make the game better??
  5. Where is Hermione docked now? As I live in France now, maybe I can visit one day!
  6. Thanks Victor. Exactly my point. "Should have" after the fact is pointless,as anyone (including myself!) can work that out. ALSO. You CANNOT sell NOTEs to a port. so that way out wasn't viable. "Find an alt" isn't exactly an easy thing to do. Texas says about warning labels, but there was no "warning label" saying: IF you open this chest the Treasure INSIDE is BIGGER than the chest! Consider this a complaint to the devs. As a "pauper" player who avoids grinding etc, I was really excited to get something good / valuable etc for the first time (woooo!) and so to wind up with nothing was pretty much a burn.
  7. Well I went to a treasure fleet wreck and for the first time ever SUCCESS! I found a dead mans chest wooo!!! I sailed nervously back to land in my trader brig (Dead mans chest = 1500 weight / Trader Brig capacity 1750) I docked at the first port I came too (it was a Bahamas Fleet a few days ago) which was a Swedish port, little harbour I believe. The Treasure chests also seem to have timers active on them... only 2 hours. I wanted to log off, but I figured I could open the chest, learn any cool skill books enclosed, squirrel away any nice upgrades and put any other treasure back in the trader brig and sail off when i got back online. SO ... I opened the treasure chest annnnnd! I got a upgrade (hurray!) AND a 3rd Rate NOTE! Nice I thought, as I was thinking of getting a SOL. Then I saw the SOL NOTE was bigger cargo weight than the CHEST! it was just under 3k weight! WTF??? So I was stuck in a SHALLOW port, with a NOTE bigger than my ship could hold, with no way of making the ship and selling it (or the NOTE) . So basically after all the time and excitement of my first treasure hunt all I got was an upgrade and a lot of disappointment! I had to scrap the note so i could leave port...... 8(
  8. whatever ship i can find is what i sail
  9. Ah but so few do. The quieter a TS the more likely that team will win.
  10. I feel like I have to post after last nights GB vs Spain battle outside of KPR. Myself and 2 friends were sailing out for some PVP and a laugh, and noticed a large battle had developed outside of KPR. We joined and were on the TS channel. What ensued was depressing in so many ways, I hope this post can possibly give some people a chance to re-think how they do things (probably not much chance but you have to try!) I can't speak for the Spanish but regarding the Brits: 1. As soon as we jumped on the TS channel it was confusion, with no clear commander designated, and multiple people speaking. People were complaining that: A: Not everyone was on TS B: Get out of my way C: People aren't obeying instructions. 2. The Brits were also acting as though only the core unit of Brits in the fleet were "worthy" and allowed to play; with people saying if you dont have TS don't join battles. 3. Players were also acting as though losing their ships was not an acceptable outcome. To respond to the above, I wa very disappointed to see these attitudes. TEAM SPEAK: As I say We were on TS, but 2 out of the 3 of us were NOT native English speakers, as many people aren't. Also some people dont have the tech. FINALLY it's not a TS based game, it has chat. IF you are trying to run a fleet and know the commander HELP the commander by relaying his instructions CLEARLY into Battle Chat. Its not a twitch game and clear instructions can easily be laid out. Commands should be repeated and updated regularly as people join often and aso need reminding of what to do. As far as I was aware I had NO idea who was in charge of the fleet when we joined. No one said who was in charge and no one updated order s (and I WAS on TS!) so just blaming TS was not in any way accurate. Communications is important, not TS. TS is just a tool that can help (but can also separate and confuse, as happened yesterday) TEAMWORK: People were threatening to Ram people out of the way, and moaning about what others were doing, but again there was no clear commands being given on TS or battle chat. How are people meant to know by magic what to do? TS should be silent in battle aside from Command orders and important time critical maneuver instructions. All the people complaining as if they were the experts would have been better off trying to coordinate the fleet in chat, or issuing clear instructions in TS. Just because you feel you are important (or in fact might be important) doesn't mean anyone else knows who you are. Try using peoples names, not "Me" "I" or "You" or "that ship over there". PVP: If you aren't prepared to lose it, dont PVP in it. The majority of the British fleet decided to leave "Because I am not willing to lose my ship because of these noobs etc". If you feel like that, bring a lesser ship to fights like this, and save your cool ships for well organised raids / PBs, clan outings etc. By doing this about face they left the rest of the fleet (who are playing a GAME and wanted a fight) to their deaths. No biggy, but it doesn't exactly encourage the new players to PVP when the big guns just bail out. We still had fun fighting a coni, but once the main SOL fleet had left it was only a matter of time before a bunch of SOLS decided to intervene in our little fight, and we got vapourised, haha Basically try and remember its a game, and played for fun, and to help your nation. Don't act as if you are the most important, just because you are an ace with a big ship. IF You Are important and an ACE with a big ship it's your job to help lead and guide your fleet, not bitch about everyone else who isn't one of your "ace squadron". Everyone bought the game and wants to have fun playing it. Also remember a commander might issue the ultimate commands, but they need help. If you are senior player, help your commander. Explain orders, relay commands, inform new arrivals, repeat commands, address the fleet as a whole (i.e dont think only of your own ship) and generally try to be a positive influence. Let's hope the next one goes better! 8)
  11. also a great chance to visually show if a ship is "copper bottomed" or not.....
  12. I understand that repairs are an essential mechanic in game, and that the devs are constantly tuning how they work and using different ideas etc. BUT currently the idea of Sail Rep / Hull reps is SUPER CONFUSING (at least to me). At least with RUM you know 1 rum = 1 sailor. Currently I run with small ships (eg Prince, Niagara, rattler) AND Frigates. Also I have NO IDEA how many reps each type of ship will need to sustain myself through a tough PVP encounter for example, so I feel that I have initially been totally under repped (when I was used to the old days of 1 repair kit = 1 repair). After that I feel I have been "over-compensating" by stacking tons of repairs in my ships, and when i sik losing them all (and they cost a fair bit). Is the new UI going to have info on ships saying how much repair kits / sail repair kits are needed for "one cycle of repairs" ? Maybe it does already? I have no idea. EG: BEL POULE info screen: Hull Reps: 12 needed per cycle Sail reps: 15 needed per cycle. This seems easy to add and will make understanding what you can carry and what you might need to carry manageable for the player. at the moment I am totally in the dark. Also will the tutorials explain repairs to new players, and how many cycles will fit in a long battle?
  13. When players are starting for the first time and entering their names. Suggest to them NOT to WRITE "CAPTAIN xxxx" or "ADMIRAL xxxx" etc and explain the game will assign ranks.
  14. Surely this can EASILY be detected and then insta banned from game? Damaging the same player over and over ??? Very suspicious.....
  15. Tried to redeem some of my ships due to this warning. Dock slot panic / chaos ensued......
  16. It is a major frustration. I had no idea how it works and when i got a message saying i couldn't teleport as i had not enough dock slots I reported it as a bug, as I had no idea how it works. I'm sure this is a common and very avoidable problem for new players...
  17. Its very unclear how the dock slot allocation work, and that it is across all ports, plus there is no way of seeing how many dock slots you have available. Will this be addressed in the new UI?
  18. Great post. I have 2 points. 1. I agree that guns are a bit unrealistic and too accurate and too fast re-aiming. However I think that changing things will involve changing the gun controls a bit to keys not just mouse, as they move to fast otherwise? 2. Smart gunners v dumb gunners. Why not make each full manned cannon have a "Gun captain" who is the best trained "smart gunner". Then every time you take crew damage there is a %age chance that one of your smart gunners dies and that renders gun still operational but "dumb" in terms of aiming (and I already assume slower loading due to less crew on guns)
  19. I would like to see some really nice damage modelling for stern damage for example. The ship models are great and the feeling of damage is good when you see the cannon ball holes, and the splinters flying and especially masts falling down and sails shredded. I would like to see damaged cannons going missing graphically, ie disappearing from the side of the ship and the stern suffering horrific damage when raked to pieces . The more visual damage the better....
  20. good idea. a few basic tutorial no risk practice tools would be good.... They can also use these instances to practice tacking and for testing out new ships equipment etc
  21. Having just rejoined the game one of my first PVPs was ruined by an unidentified "bug" that stopped my ship from working. It then happened again in another PVP, but that player, as I described the "bug" to him said "are you in Brace?" As I had no idea what that was I said so, then at the bottom of my screen saw in small green letters "brace active" Clearly this had been accidentally turned on by the legendary "no return chat typing", but as I had no idea it existed, nor what its effects were it had totally baffled me. How can something which TOTALLY STOPS your ships Rudder having an effect (But still shows Rudder R & L inputs) and STOPS YOU FIRING not be clearly signposted on the UI. If it's active, "BRACE BRACE BRACE!!!" Should dominate the audio, as officers scream at the crew to abandon all their jobs and brace and the BRACE ACTIVE lettering should be MUCH larger, possibly with the message "rudder and guns will not respond until crew is released from brace positions" written underneath to explain its effects. This seems a simple fix, and the audio alone would be an important and immersive element for the game.
