  1. I believe she's already got a mention in a separate thread. Also out of the time period, still a nice ship. May the republic rise again.
  2. For a "Pastor" your attitude is rather suspect. As for Vicious, he is certainly living up to his handle, I do not believe I have met a player of his equal in terms of toxicity, obnoxiousness, and general misbehavior on the forums in nearly a decade. If he's the same ingame, then I will be glad to count myself his adversary, for such adversaries make for wonderful memories in the future. Lastly, concerning Johny Reb, you may not give a damn one way or the other Vicious, the man may have his faults, we all do, yours more glaringly so than many here, but I have known him for several years, dating back to PotBS days. I have never had a reason to mistrust him, and I have never heard him lose his temper. You can slander who you want, but be careful who you aim for, eventually it will cost you, and no amount of flaming and groveling will save you in the end. I will see you on the seas ere long. I would wish you fair winds and following seas, but it's Davy Jones's Locker for thee.
  3. Seems pretty straightforward. Among all the bs are kernels of truth. Speaking of kernels, I like my popcorn popped all the way through. I would like to see a third party (neutral of course) draw up a spreadsheet and/or chart to determine whether Vicious is actually spitting truth about having the advantage on the American nation in ship kills, or whether he's actually getting his stern handed to him from a double shotted broadside. If anyone does decide to set up such a thing, make sure you have the evidence in hand (screenies of course), and maybe make separate charts for single engagements and straight up brawls/port battles. PS: Way I heard it, LV was betting on the Council refusing his request to join, counting on it rather, so he could use it for propaganda against TF, TDA, etc. and had a fit when they voted him in.

    Ottoman Navy

If anything, the article sheds some light on why they built so many large ships, and yet, most of them saw very limited service before being broken up. I'm sure structural integrity was only part of it of course, but I can see where it would have a very real impact on the service life of the Ottoman ships of the line.
  5. Is it an indiaman that Chapman designed or did he get it from the Dutch? Wasn't uncommon for shipbuilders to do plans of vessels from other nations.
  6. There goes any credibility you attempted to establish.
  7. How much backreading have you done on the topic Anne? Not much from the sound of it. I'm unable to play the game atm due to real life constraints, but I and many others would jump at the chance to play pirate if it were indeed a hard mode playstyle. At the moment it's just another PotBS that just says "stay away".
  8. I think the poll reflects that statement quite well.
  9. Hard cap is 1830 I believe, though I think they lean more toward 1820. Not many of the ships toward the end of the timeframe are popular, due to construction details, as maturin has expressed.
  10. I linked a pdf on two other threads and I'll link it here as well. The article sheds light on why Ottoman ships had such short terms of service and also covers how they were built: http://www.reenactor.ru/ARH/PDF/Yener.pdf

    Ottoman Navy

Found this pdf link while trying to rediscover an Ottoman warship that fired massive marble shot. It's a piece, from what I can tell, on the Ottoman and Russian Navies of the period between 1768-1792. Lots of information on the Ottoman designs of the period and some light shed on the Russian warships as well. http://www.reenactor.ru/ARH/PDF/Yener.pdf This link can be opened in iBooks as well.
  12. No it certainly wasn't a fictional ship, she took part in an action in the Med somewhere, but it may be out of the time period.Found what I was looking for. The guns are called kantar and are essentially Ottoman carronades that fired marble shot. They were apparently based on medieval basilisk guns. The article also is an extensive piece with a wealth of information on the Ottoman Navy that we haven't seen yet. It also details somewhat on the Russian Navy of the period. Also within is a detailed plan of the Peleng-i Bahri and a picture of a 60 gun ship model. Apparently the plans haven't been prepared for online viewinf just yet. I'm still reading! http://www.reenactor.ru/ARH/PDF/Yener.pdf
  13. She's a French four masted sloop of war that was captured by the British. She's in the timeline, but a bit too modern by some standards of the period: http://www.bruzelius.info/Nautica/Ships/Fourmast_ships/Invention(1801).html Her picture is in one of the threads. There's been a few wacky sailing ships I've come across. Been trying to rediscover an Ottoman ship that mounted a pair of enormous cannon that fired marble shot, but I can't find the reference to it.
  14. I'm not I just see the thread as pointless. Certain historical ships will probably never make the cut, due to revolutionary ideas, like L'Invention, which were before their time. Who knows though, what the devs have in store.
  15. Carronade loadouts on ships have been done since the beginning, with nerfs along the way (lineships mostly). I don't see how this topic (no offense) is anything new, unless you mean having a much greater weight of broadside per deck than what is already the norm.
  16. Hard for it to be a surprise if people know where to look in the game files. If the devs want her to be a secret they'd need for a separate server to hide her and other projects on until they are ready.
  17. Damn double post on a crappy net connection (!)
  18. Or remove the pirates as a nation altogether. God forbid they be exactly like every other nation. That option just makes my skin crawl.
  19. I feel ya there. I'll be voting for merchant vessels (if they appear in future polls) as well as lighter gunned frigates and other smaller vessels in the future. That was one thing I loved about PotBS when I first started, before they removed most variants. Sure there was a meta and most models had at least two variants, but there was a plethora of choices at the lower levels/ranks.
  20. Indefatigable is already being prepared to fill that gap.
  21. Sid Meier's will get real boring real fast mate. Come back in a few months, maybe a year. It could be different. You can't expect change to happen quickly here. It's still not a full fledged game yet.
  22. She is probably the last big ship I will vote for for a while.
