  1. It would need to be done in such a way that cartographers/explorers are needed throughout the game. Perhaps only society/guild/organization members can have access to said maps? Or a cartographer/explorer can draft a map of a specific area, make a copy of it (labor hour intensive), and sell it on the market?
  2. If that is so, then the devs need to narrow their timeline and toss everything else out the window. The ignorance is damning.
  3. I guess the term "Manila Galleons" means nothing to you then, yes? To anyone that played the game Pirates of the Burning Sea, this would appear to be the "Bahamut" Pirate refit Bark: I don't have the historical details of the ship, but I do recall that a bark is a type of cargo/merchant/transport vessel with a specific mast and rigging set up. I'm all for selecting merchantmen and 4th rate vessels from the Scandinavian countries. Spain and Portugal need more representation too, if we can get them. I'm going to highlight that sentence for you so you can re-read it. Convoys, do they have any meaning for you? merchant convoys were still in use up until WWII. Merchant ships of the particular time period we're sailing in were still slow, and while armed, were still easy pickings, even if they put up a show of force, like in the Battle of Pulo Aura. Please, tell me again why they shouldn't be allowed. It's like saying "Trincomalees shouldn't be allowed to tag Trader Snows because they're undergunned and easy pickings". Also, I like how people conveniently, and continually ignore the devs when they post the time-line of acceptable ship designs: Ships from the years: 1670-1825 are acceptable. 1730-1790 is preferred Acceptable, not discouraged.
  4. I'm going to call your bluff on this and ask for a more detailed reason on why they're out of the time period when they were quite well used (and copied!) by many nations, including the English/British. There's no point in adding the traditional Spanish and Portuguese galleons if Fluyts are not going to be allowed in the game. You might be able to fill the merchantmen gap with several different East/West Indiaman designs, but there'll be no small amount of hue and cry about the lack of historical designs missing that were the bulk of the Spanish/Portuguese and Dutch trade fleets. Don't get me wrong, I understand your opinion, they were most definitely dated designs, but they DID operate in the time period, and are still worthy of consideration. And you can keep saying it too, as will the devs when they say: Limitations: We want to bring ships from underrepresented nations into this voting; thus English/US/French vessels proposals are discouraged. Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Portuguese, maybe German built ships are encouraged. They won't add another ship of English/American/French origins unless they have no choice, and there's still plenty of fish in the sea.
  5. The HMS Indefatigable is already filling the role of counterpart to the USS Constitution, perhaps in the future we'll see more British made ships, but I would rather see more representation by Spain, Portugal, and the Scandinavian countries. We also need to see some more medium to large merchant/cargo vessels, be they galleons, fluyts, or Indiamen. While not necessarily a merchant vessel, I'm wondering if anyone can dig up plans for this Portuguese man o'war: Portuguese third rate ship of the line "Principe Real" (1771)
  6. This yacht was in Pirates of the Burning Sea. She was unarmed, but fun to zoom around the map in. Would love to see her ingame here!
  7. I have a Teak built Cerberus. Definitely seems to have a speed increase, but I've noticed she springs leaks more than the Oak wood types I've sailed. Nothing major unless I ram somebody, but definitely not as durable as oak.

    POTBS

Hello you two, nice to see y'all are still alive!

    POTBS

Last two people I talked to (diehards) that played PotBS have not played in 2 weeks or more. You go to Portalus's webpage and check the last update that brought in a new ship and you'll see the discontent and rage in the comments section. I hope the staff for NA is taking notice of just how quickly a game can go downhill when you ignore the player population. I remember when the fiasco for Brit Ventrilo (Antigua) went down and almost the entire Brit population moved to TeamSpeak (Save PAX and 3Sheets). Brit Vent is still up but only a shell of what it used to be, with hardly even one person on it. Brit TS went on for longer, but almost everyone in it nowadays is playing Naval Action, indicative of how players are no longer showing interest in that game.

    POTBS

Well of course, that's what my name reads I never used it on PotBS though. As for your link, haters gotta hate, *insert wistful tone* I do wish though that we'd gotten more respect. I wasn't around for that particular 6v6 I believe, but there were many after it, some against SOS, others against OSJ, PAX, SND (and their french toons), IL, etc. I do wonder though how many of us y'all proclaimed to be speed fit gankers actually were speed fit. I personally never ran more than 2 runners and no other speed mods, no need, and spec'd tough crew and never looked back. Skelator was the survivalist, that dude could go down to 20 structure and live to tell it, I swear he must've been a cat irl with the amount of times he survived. Domina, well, he was the feeding noob. And the list goes on. My point is, we were most definitely gankers, but I seriously doubt "speed fitting gankers" was the norm for us. Ah well, notoriety does you in, in the end. A lot of good memories there, I miss jenerik and wish he'd get off the burr he's on and get on here instead of playing Europa Universalis. I've got no hard feelings from PotBS toward you Grim, or most any other player, excepting a few Brits. New game, CLEAN SLATE, time to move on and make new memories.

    POTBS

I missed the first few years of PotBS and wish I hadn't, they sounded like fun times. I came in toward the end of 2011 and enjoyed the game up until the major frigate nerfs that, in my eyes, ruined combat on the OS to the point where I quit pvp'ing period. I loved PotBS for what it was and what thrill it gave me, but once the thrill was gone, the will to play was gone. The last thrill I got from that game was sailing a Sovereign in port battles and catching people unawares with the range fit. I'd been hearing about Naval Action for a while before I quit playing, and now I can finally say I have my key and am playing the game. The sailing mechanics aren't much different but the aiming mechanics are. It's a thrill to sail again, and with a game that shows a lot of promise. If you think you know who I am, give a holler sometime, would love to chat it up about the old days. I feel like a noob all over again, ain't it great.
