Perk: Ships Log

Recommended Posts

Ahoi fellow seafarers.

What about a Ships Log? It would be a nice perk for your (1st) officer.

Like in real sailing trips there will be logged (with some delay) main courses and events so you can reenact your adventures in high sea. There could even be a small map, but not with a tracking, instead of with the general courses (as lines) and the points of events. Again with some delay (5 mins or so) to preserve the navigational experience.

Examples:

Ship Log "Lynx"

============

Skipper: Bragan Benigaris
Waters: Waters around Mortimer Town

Nationality:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
* 0700: Left La Tortue
* 0700: Set course northwest
* 1200: Encounter with Pirates (Surprise,Mercury)
* 1230: Managed to escape
and so on

Example for a map:

With this perk you have a nice archive of the journeys and battles of your brave seafarer - for the historians and storytellers among us.

Logs = data = database entries.

Unfortunately with the multiplayer game our hands a tied with what we can record and in what amounts.

Having a log will force us to cut corners somewhere else.

but good idea mate. .thanks for the proposal

It would be cool to have a notepad in game to keep track of personal logs for those that do role play. Although they could always use the blog on the forum for that. :)

An in Game note Pad would be cool (but a player could track that sort of thing using the Microsoft Notepad application as well).

A blog at NA forum would work as well. I think Pagan Pete has a thread in the Naval Actin Tavern where he recounts his adventures.

The clan that I am in has a "Ships Log" in the members only section of its website where members can create and update a log of their ongoing adventures.

Maybe it would be possible to have a client-only log. Means, the log gets saved on your PC rather than on the server. It's a bit wacky since you couldn't access it when you log in from other PCs, but since you don't really need the logs from previous game sessions this shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Since this is for the player only, it might be stored locally on the players computer only without any connection to the server or database on the server.
