    steam

    veyron literally millions of gamers run steam without a problem every day. Every PC gamer I have known in the last 10yrs has it installed. steam probably takes more profit than Microsoft these days. What your saying is akin to i cannot install windows my PC, I give up and it's your fault. Steam has no relation to the devs, it is just a vehicle that once running makes your gaming life and the devs a heck of a lot easier. Patches eeetc are all auttomatic. What I am saying is that 99.9% of the gaming community uses it. So give it another go maybe. I hate not to see you in game soon. p.s. If you decide to install it again. Maybe message me and i can friend you on steam and try to help.
  2. Thanks to Wicked Mouse for thus lovely keyboard layout Thanks to Ghroznak for this handy category break down of keys. Shooting Right Click on the side you want to fire from to enter firing mode Space bar for single ranging shot Left click for full salvo Shooting Controls 2 Hold ALT while in aim mode to be able to look around you without moving your aim. Remember to stop moving mouse before you let go of ALT. [ and ] are for full left and right broadsides, respectively. More specifically they fire the full broadside straight out of the side of the ship with no elevation. (assume this means outside of shooting mode?) Spacebar (hold and release, not in aiming mode) shoot at 0 degree angle (for low distances) - EDIT This seems a little strange, don't see how this could work) Gun Deck Control F1 F2 F3 F4 to lock a deck for firing (decks 1 to 4 that is, a red cross will be shown on the deck that will not be firing). Press the key again to unlock the deck (red crosses indicate lock) Rudder Double tap A or D for permanent left of right rudder setting, Tap once the opposite way from locked left or right and it will centre again. Hold Rudder key A or D down to turn rudder temporarily. Let go and it will centre again. Mast and Yard Controls Tap W until you have the sail speed settings and right amount of sail canvas set Tap S until you have ordered less canvas set to setting you want Battle sails are activated by pressing "B" - same effect can be had by tapping W or S until you get to the same setting of course. Manual Yard Controls Q and E to adjust forward mast Z and C to adjust rear mast F to return to auto skipper Telescope Hold Left shift is telescope Scroll mouse to adjust it to the zoom you want while holding shift down Boarding Ships G Board ship at lower speeds (this option will pop up when you are close and slow enough to enemy ship) X Capture ship after successful boarding (your crew will transfer to the other ship) or neutral ship with no crew Chat Press Enter to enter chat mode and speak had to press ESC to get out of chat TAB to toggle team chat on and off after pressing enter Special Statistics L = show shot damage K = show sounds Fire Mortar M to enter aim mode for mortar on mortar brig Free Camera (could now be locked out for sea trials to avoid cheating?) Home key disconnects camera to go looking for the enemy Home key is spectator after dead Z X up and down Scroll for camera speed Right or left click changes ship in dead free camera mode Screenshots P screenshot F8 makes a huge 4K (3840 x 2160) screenshot, it may freeze your game client for a while. TAB Holding tab down shows team status and side make up. Misc Ctrl H to hid interface F11 bug report How to reset Gun Batteries to default: thx Gman I would add to this that to reset any gun battery to it's default position (such as broadsides to 90 degrees port and starboard, chasers straight forward and aft), aim your camera at said battery and, without entering aiming mode, hold down left mouse button. You will see the water highlighted with your current aim point. Continue holding down the left mouse button will swing your guns to default positions. Also useful to tap the left mouse button to see what direction your guns are currently trained in.
  3. I did not mention damage. Just wanted to see the shockwave hit like a nuke and wash over everything. THe moment and the shock would be sublime.
  4. Yeah I was told this was the place it was being discussed. I mean the shock wave from the exploding ship at the battle of the nile was so powerful it was heard well inland and the shock wave washed over the entire fleet like a wind.
  5. have shockwave effects of something as big as a magazine explosion been discussed here? I just thought it could be an amazing effect.
  6. Battle of the nile where the flagship iirc had the magazine blow. The noise was heard (quieter back then) for an enormous way. I feel a distrubance in the force would have been the catch phrase for natives that day. Like a thousand souls........
  7. You mentioned WOT on this forum. Shame be to your fleet!
  8. mine are all intended as single match scenarios.
  9. I agree. But you have to be careful with some of these guys. Some of them are so far up themselves and happy to give a game a right panning. One of my favourite games of all time War of the Roses got this treatment because it was too complex for the half wits who love call of duty.
  10. I was more thinking because PAtrick Stewart does have that classically trained british captain sort of vibe
  11. Well it's kind of tongue in cheek. But wars of the roses actually got Brian Blessed to do voice overs !! It was epic. I was thinking Patrick Stewart seems like an old sea dog.
  12. Some from me.... thought I would post them here for peoples responses as previously they were only internal I think if you can link objectives to mission oriented goals that would be good. I think objectives should also strongly discourage the "run away" attitude that some players will take when they have the wind. (i) Stop the fire ships from entering port (ii) Sink or capture a particular vessel - a randomly nominated player. Other players have to protect said player (iii) Land marines\stop marines from landing - this would involve being stationary at a capture point for a given period. (iv) Signal and receive a signal back from a spy ashore or pickup a spy. (v) Run in past some shoals using a map and your depth sounding (vi) Rescue an AI ship under attack before it can be sunk. This could a merchant man or even a convoy. (vii) Tow a disabled ship away from the enemy. This could be set after some famous battle with wrecks everywhere to navigate (viii) Take part in supporting or clearing the way for the copenhagen landings (ix) Capture the enemy admiral (x) Capture a new type of ship - remember the Aubrey ship the polycrest (xi) Protect the bomb ketches as they complete a bombardment mission (xii) Escort the convoy to safety (xiii) Escort the troop barges (xiv) Ambush and see how many ships you can capture as they come out of port. (xv) Interrogate the fishermen close to enemy shore (xvi) Stop the British from stopping and searching american ships for british sailors?? (NEW) (xvii) Put a prize crew on the captured or disabled ship (xviii) Destroy the signal station by landing a party ashore and recovering them For any of this to happen sea conditions must change to make the battle anything more than a chase. For all of this the admiralty will be greatful Actually a major function of frigates was to fire (set alight and burn) enemy ships in a battle that had drifted onto and grounded on friendly coasts. Thus if not burned they would be recovered later by the enemy. EDIT: Now I remember what I wanted to add. Frigate missions to pass messages from the flagship up the line. Early in the period and in a few instances later on in the period frigates did not just repeat signals but actually sailed to each ship in the line of battle with written orders while the battle was under way. This was done when an admiral wanted specific orders to get to every captain. To do this the frigate would travel up the line at speed deploying a ships boat ahead of the oncoming battleship. Then picking the boat up again after the battleship had passed. Apparently it was fairly effective and required great skill on the part of the frigate crew. Earlier on ships would actually heave to iirc to get their orders and the battle line was very strict before the signal code systems were standardised. Perhaps we could have a scenario where messages need delivering. I just cannot imagine how it would be exciting though. Actually it could be exciting if the orders once handed over actually made a difference to the battle and the battleships then changed what they were doing. It could also be exciting if the battle line was in disorder and under fire!
  13. I sure hope so. I want PVE and PVP battles without need for the campaign. I am hoping for scenario based PVP/PVE.... I aint got time to bleed (that was for Admin) No really. If the open world turns out to be too involved and time consuming that is all I will be playing.
  14. Reading all this text. Branders seem to have been considered the NUCLEAR weapons of the day. They were considered a very low blow indeed probably because they were so in discriminant.
  15. I hope this info helps. I had no idea that first rates and huge portions of fleets were so effectively destroyed by fireships. These circumstances could make for amazing scenarios.
  16. A few exerts for educational purposes from a book;
  17. Good question. I don't know if fireships ever destroyed one. I imagine a first rate might blow any fireship to kingdom come before it got to them?
  18. I actually think that one of the things missing at the moment i agree is that personal touch to a ship by way of the first officer and men sounding familiar and correct for the nation. I possted a huge post about relayibg orders by sound.
  19. You do realise next year is like 4 weeks away right? Also why does a game need to motivate pirates? Why does everybody that plays sailing games always think the centre of the universe are pirates?
