  1. but yes if the direction water is flowing has an effect on battle i would like to see it in. Thus ships travelling in given directions ccould go faster, slower or get pulled if they did not have enough sail set. Would this not be worth doing? Or perhaps only worth doing near the coast?
  2. i always thought tides were part of what made up current in a given area. I had no idea that currents or the direction the water was running had no effect on battles.
  3. World of warships is entering BETA now. I have a few friends in the BETA. This for me because it is motor boats with guns is not as technical or challenging as the age of sail. However it is very exciting for a lot because it has Aircraft, submarines and planes as well as ww1 ships and ww2 ships. Night battles etc. It sounds as if these two games are almost being developed along a very similar timeline. Anyways just thought I would put it on your radar admins if it was not already. I shunned the world of tanks game because it was NOT a real attempt at a tank warfare portrayal at all. No infantry or any other support apart from artillery. World of ships may be similar. It will probably have no radar directed fire, no firing at realistic ranges with fire control, no proper engine management (ww1 ships blew boilers all the time, dodgy repair kits and times, incorrect fleet composition etc. What it does have going for it is that the modern navy does not need infantry to be portrayed. This game on the other hand has all the makings of being much more realistic and well made. http://worldofwarships.com/game/
  4. most good multiplayer games restrict class numbers to ensure that things remain some what realistic and to make things fair. if naval warfare were to do scenarios where ship numbers were known then that should form the restriction for that battle imho. this would prevent battles with 50 frigates and no ships of the line. p.s. Caan anybody tell me how frigates are faster than larger ships for delivering messages and scouting?
  5. if they did it only the signalling side would see friendly flags or lights. the signal would be simple and kept up constantly so friendly players could always check current orders without having to ask on voice or text.
  6. i have been thinking that it would be nice to have flag or light communications. However given that we can type to each other or skype each other i guess this would be a lot of effort for nothing.
  7. You know what. I would be keen to read something that was not based on the British navy. I picked Jack Aubrey back up. But would also love to read the French or Spanish side of things.
  8. I think I saw the 1951 version if that was with Gregory peck. Was not really that impressed with it.
  9. I played ancient art of war on land to death like you. I don't think it had cavalry though which was it's main detractor? I believe there was also a sky one but I have never played that. Admin if you want ideas for scenario's I would look through the ancient art of war at sea manual.... iirc it had some good ones.
  10. Had everything I wanted in a game of it's kind at the time. Showing my age. But the three levels of zoom made this game most easy to play.
  11. I have read a fair few age of sail novels and enjoyed hornblower probably the most. Started Jack Aubrey's first but put it down for later. I think I read sharpes trafalgar as well... Anybody got any suggestions?

    Sailing Movies

I suggest * Hornblower the TV series * Master and Commander Apart from small cameos in other movies I cannot really think of any more worth watching.
  13. I feel like I am just watching the AI do whatever it wants. I am not playing the game it's just like I am a spectator. I cannot keep units where I want properly without them being vulnerable. When I leave them they try to do whatever they want. to a certain extent this is welcome. But in the grand scheme of things it often means I have no control over the battle. I guess if you give us control that the AI becomes dead like total war AI?
  14. I would like COOP. If the AI is any good this would be great.
  15. I submit that this would be a great game to do coop vs the AI. However I really would like an option for regimental combat rather than brigade level. This way we would see more unit variety and be able to utilise more tactics. EDIT: This was supposed to go in the gettysburg forum sorry.
