  1. mirones so you think it will be fine to mix the earliest ships with the latest in this game? also considering it looks like most will start the game wiith late model ahips
  2. It will be very strange to have an early 1700s ship breaking the HMS victory with smaller cannon?
  3. these kind oof comments are why i always prefer devsto sttick with history. Then at least what. Isabsorbed is at least in some way real learrning. What this gent has learnnnt is even reverse learning because it nott just not learned its learnt wronng on purpose.
  4. i cannot disagree. Was the only scenario i could think of that remotely made sense.
  5. I am not a fan of maintenance costs. Especially time based ones unless they are based on how often somebody plays. Again Mechwarrior Online used to have repair costs and they dumped it because casual players could not keep up. Basically if the maintenance costs were based on how much the actual ship was used and not if you leave it in your ship bay. Then possibly I would be ok with this. it also begs the question of how this would work for skirmish battles.

    POTBS

Thanks Hyperion74 . But generally I watch a movie instead of playing an arcade game for a storyline. Same goes for POTBS... I won't play a game that has autofire/aim like world of warcraft. I tilt on the side of simulators and realism not MMORPGs with pretentious combat systems.
  7. I also like the idea of initially plain ships. Once again mechwarrior online follows this model. All initial mechs are green.
  8. I don't think there is enough to do to have more than one person. The devs seem to be steering away from things that make it hard for one player. What is the point of making it harder for two players just so the second player has something to do. In addition to this there would be no advantage.
  9. I was just thinking that unless the admiralty gives you default cannon or none when you purchase the ship initially. That everybody will just use the biggest cannon possible on each deck. What disadvantages should using the biggest cannon have. * Heavier cannon make the ship more sluggish in performance * Heavier cannon make the ship lower in the water. In heavy seas this means your lower deck may more easily be rendered unusable. * Heavier cannon in some cases may mean you can carry less of them - although I think in reality they either fall through the deck or not. So this cannot be true. * Heavier cannon take longer to reload - this should be a BIG factor. Well maybe not big. But I need to do some research as I know larger cannon had more crew but I do not know if they reloaded slower --- well not significantly slower. * Bigger cannon need more crew and so putting larger cannon on takes men from other duties making other things on the ship slower * Bigger cannon means losing crew affects reload times more than with smaller cannon. * Bigger cannon would mean more ship movement?? If fired in anything but rolling volley the ship may be adversely affected especially if damaged? Not that different firing patterns are available. I do not know if they would be. What do you guys think.... are there sacrifices to be made by Captains who try to BOAT if you will their ships? I mean if you are on the HMS Victory who is decked out for the biggest and best fine. But if you carry the maximum size cannon on say the surprise. Should their not be disadvantages. Obviously carronades are a different story that may actually increase the crew you have available.
  10. Even though graphically there is not a 1:1 representation I would like in the main menu to play with my crew % For instance if I could choose the ratio of marines to seamen for instance.... The number of topmen to waisters. Pressed men vs able seamen. I guess you would have to promote, train or pay for better men and these men would also be in short supply in some cases.
  11. Yeah I especially hated the painted sails they had in POTBS. I don't think they were realistic.
  12. As much as I would love all of this. I don't think that the devs can have a 1:1 representation of crew on board ships. I would love to allocate crew to different tasks manually though. This would make the game extreme in the way of configuration difference. I am fairly sure that crew will gain experience with the ship? Lack of crew does affect things at the moment in game and the game does show lost crew. you can also prioritise the crew to do things like plug holes and maintain the pumps.
  13. We are getting a bomb ketch? What can this be used for .... not ships?
  14. Well it would be a valid tactic in any wind going against it But yes I can understand.
  15. Personally I think unless people can literally choose their own names it would not be much fun naming a ship. There were simply too many good ship names never utilised. Personally I think the only restriction should be on swearing and offensive language if it must be restricted at all.
  16. Would there be any point having the ability to deploy boats at all to pull your ship out of trouble?
  17. OTmatt historically hordes of small gun boats - usually very small craft with one cannon. Were used to protect harbours. A famous example of them winning is when the Philadelphia ran aground in Tripoli harbour North Africa. Because she could not move gunboats just sat away from her broadside and pounded away. In large numbers they are hard to hit and can actually out gun a larger ship with there total broadside. That is why I would suggest that some ports have fleets of these vessels that the AI can deploy to deter a frigate waltzing in to a harbour. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fa/Gunboat_battle_near_Alv%C3%B8en_Norway.jpg Gunboat_battle_near_Alvøen_Norway
  18. Amazing. I don't mind having to bribe the admiralty to name my ship.... that gives me something to aim for.
  19. I think perhaps only the AI should have access to little boats with guns..... gunboats. But that they should be in game.
  20. Apart from hating chivalry and its arcade gameplay in comparisonn to warooof the roses (which has just been announced as dead because the devs wasted roses profits chasing chivalry and. Cod fans with war of the. Vvikibggs arcade game) i doooont mind. Payyying for cosmetics as longg as they are grinndable. As. Well. mechwarrior oonlinnee. Isa good examples of. This. Mmodel
  21. thunder ii guess we just don't play the same games. The ones you mention are pretty simplistic and are certainly not cutting edge.
  22. in mechwarrior unless targetted you had to hold down q for name tags
  23. Exactly!!! Like in real life you sometimes know who commands what vessel according to intelligence or encounters. Especially friendly vessels. "The HMS Flower, that's Cochranes boat" you would say bringing the glass down from your eye.
