  1. wooden ships rarely if ever sank. This is just a game mechanic.
  2. This would give even more use for the telescope in battle. You could spend time while being chased observing the other ships upgrades. Keen eyes knowing what to look for. Barricades - Barricades graphically shown on deck - this one is easy Boarding Ladders and Ropes - Boarding ladders and ropes shown on deck ready to go Copper Plating - As the ship heals copper plate sheets are shown under the waterline Extra Hammocks - Extra crew on deck or more folded hammocks shown on deck Extra Planking - Extra wood planks shown bolted on sides? Or just looks thicker than normal model of that ship Extra Pump - Extra pump outlet shown on deck - one is shown on deck for most ships in game already. Grenade Suppliment - Bags of grenades shown on deck Grog Rations - Crates of spirits shown on deck Improved Magazine Access - Loblolly boys with ammo shown coming out to deck and back Lightweight ropes and blocks - lighter coloured wood shown in rigging Muskets and Pistols - extra muskets and pistol lockers shown on deck or hanging around loose locked to railings and such like spare spars? Optimised Ballast - WELL This one is damned hard to show... except if a few left over stones in a bucket are shown on deck Optimised Rudder - A sleaker version of the rudder shown. Pellews Sights - If you look at the cannon on deck you can see a different sight for aiming? Or gunners look a little different uniform colour scheme wise. Like they still wear indefatigueable caps from that ship? Something to set them apart as ace gunners. A feather in their caps... something historical and accurate but uniformly different from other crews. Re-enforced rudder - thicker rudder shown Re-enforced masts - masts have re-enforcing or look slightly thicker Rum Rations - Rum barrel and ladel shown on deck Speed Trim - No idea what this is even meant to look like? Steel Toolbox - Steel Toolbox on deck shining away Turning Trim - No idea what this is even meant to look like? Copper Plating Muskets on HMS Warrior Barricades
  3. Joseph Marshall a painter from the 1700s seems to have been commissioned by King George III to paint the lines of a lot of ships. He also seems to have captured some of the colour schemes which I remember from way back was a major problem for the devs to research. arshall, Joseph active 1770-1780, artist, painter, British; http://artuk.org/discover/artworks/search/actor:marshall-joseph-active-17551779/page/2 Check out the amount of red. I wonder whether it is indeed accurate.
  4. Allied Access to ports - Diplomacy. This should be an option to prevent clans just deciding to give up a port to allow allied access to territory that really then just land locks and stifles the poor punters that are not part of a clan and have no idea when these changes happen. This would also help because clans tend to be so afraid of spies that they don't announce it to anybody apart from their common clan team speak.
  5. I was just putting it out there as I only do a few runs to contribute to the clan storage. Where my other clan mate is a hard core trader (for ship building mind you) and keeps venting his frustration at how dishonourable attacking merchants is and how he gets nothing out of the attacks even if he does escape. He does NOT sell his goods, he like most people I think in game simply pays and pays to collect and use the raw materials to craft. I don't recall the last time I spoke to somebody that actually had spare goods to trade. Most have their limited factories dedicated to crafting resources that are never enough.
  6. A friend of mine was saying that he was sick of being constantly attacked and losing ships as a merchant but when he does escape or puts up a good fight or successfully escapes getting very little reward for the lopsided contest. I was wondering what would make it worth while being a merchant with basically no hope without a very heavy escort, which is too boring for most players. Let alone a lot. Would hiring and loading AI merchants and escorting them in your own warships make more sense? Perhaps in convoy.
  7. I have always disagreed with ahistorical balance for the sake of gameplay. Instead prefering gameplay mechanics that make the ships fit in all of their accurate glory. Don't nerf the ship. Or how can you see it fight in all of it's glory and see how different match ups would have worked for real. What would Victory be like vs the Connie for instance. We would have to say.. sorry in this game you cannot portray this match up. They played with the stats for the sake of gameplay. This game is just another World of War clone. Nothing interesting here. I would prefer a gameplay mechanic like limiting connie numbers or the connie to the US or my original suggestion in another thread of buffing gold returns for little used ships and nerfing them for most common ships used at any one time by the minute on the server dynamically. Thus we can really fear the victory because its not screwed with. They instead do their best to get it in game AS IS.
  8. WE NEED - a history function that shows who put what in the warehouse and who withdrew what. The purpose of this is to show who is contributing and who is simply using. It gives credit therefore to crafters storing ships after withdrawing resources and credit to those depositing. It lets the clan know who is not pulling weight. I would also: - Allow crafted ships to be stored in clan warehouse - Allow stored ships to be tagged for people or purpose - Allow resources put in the clan warehouse to be locked to users - i.e. merchant deposits resources and locks them to a specific crafter who has asked for said resources. That crafter can release the resources for general use if they want. - Add another storage rank that allows withdraw and deposit but does not allow destruction or closure of warehouse
  9. My point is these ships should be penalised for the fact they have no staying power. Because on the flip side they get other advantages that real open sea warships cannot compete with.
  10. imho if shallow water ships like this are made - including the niagara. Their disadvantages need to be made to balance them in the open world. They need to somehow be restricted by supply and port visits or not allowed to go on trips outside of say 2 days in the open world before the crew dies of starvation. Basically something to offset what seems to be the advantages of not being a proper sea going ship. Built and served iirc on the great lakes like the niagara Shallow draught, cannot survive long at sea due to no room for supplies, built very tough compared to other similar ships and able to carry better armament for it's size due to the lack of need for supplies - meaning the weight normally reserved for supplies can be used for cannon!!! She is double deck and has been called both a SOL and a frigate! I love this (original op) ship btw as it looks really good. It sounds like it was built where it served on the lakes? Could shallow water ships like this have serve in the shallow water areas of naval action? Therefore should they be allowed to be built there and not travel outside of shallow areas unless they want to run out of supply??
  11. Wow. My opinion is not important really. I was not answering you as a dev, just my opinion as a player. Not even as a moderator. Apologies if that is what you thought I was doing. I hope the devs answer you.
  12. I think voluntary migration to be honest would be asking for trouble. You will always get some proportion that will try to make a stand holding up the final iteration of the games progress. What would be nice (not sure if it happened last time as I have pretty much always been on eu1 apart from a quick look) is if at server shutdown an additional message was played from this point advising that this server will be migrating to the main population EU1 server.
  13. I love the idea of "SOME" fairly nation specific ships being locked to a specific nation. But only very nationalistic iconic ships. The rest should be open to all. Personally I would be glad to see the connie gone from the British line up. I will enjoy reading the brief you posted and hope it includes armour comparisons with SOLs and also scientific testing with the correct calibre weapons. In fact also SOL weaponry against it's sides. There was a documentary a while back that did do an experiment but it was comical because it only used a tiny 4pdr against a simulated frigate side iirc (was a while ago) Cannot find it but this movie has the real uss constitution in it. It's silent and black and white. So cheesy and over acted it's fantastic!
  14. completely agree. But in this game it only has to happen within the scope of the games time period and it does. For pirates it was a very different story. It is like giving Nigerian pirates aircraft carriers today.
  15. The US did did build at least one SOL during this period but chose to give it to France as compensation for some accident. Additionally they started to build or had plans for many more in the period and completed some more just within the time period of this game.. I.e. Around 1825. Ideally though I agree it would be great for national flavour to limit sols for the us and allow them and them alone constitutions that their ports and crafters can build. I would add that in comparison I do not believe pirates ever had the capability to build, crew or even need SOLs.
  16. names on ships are not coming or colours schemes?
  17. I was referring to your comment here and wanted to show that SOLs were assigned to the Caribbean station for at least the Brits: "Nut then there were Zero SoLs assigned to the Caribbean Station for any of the nations in the game. The only SoLs down here were built here and sailed to Europe"
  18. Weather in Missions needs to get in somewhere as well?
  19. I agree that the enemy should be sighted coming out of battle at the very least unless it is foggy\Raining and night time. Others have suggested we see exactly where the battle is and that PVP battles even though closed do not disappear. To make it easier to gather outside. Ships in battle would also technically see any ships waiting for them outside of battle just as we want to see where the battle is exactly. It's a hard balance.
  20. As an Australian I have been playing eu1 with no problems and our ping is probably a lot worse than yours. I get around 300. This is a slow game and it does not matter so much as it would in a twitch FPS shooter. Just my observation. May not be as smooth in the open world though, but not any huge disadvantage at least with the population levels as they are now. Besides there is a more varied population and nation spread on the EU side. In the US server its all dominant US/English or spanish... iirc.
  21. Admin - Also naming ships? Will that be coming at some point? I know its not a priority.
  22. Looks like Pacific coast will be PVE - So sail around to the pacific coast from the East coast and you are in PVE area, sailing this distance would take many hours so not to be easily done. Sail back around to east coast and you are PVP again on PVP1 EU server. So effectively everything will be on the one server. At least that is what I gather and assume.
