  1. Honestly, just no. The merchantman would never have insane armour etc, its going to lose to a frigate unless that merchantman is insanely good and the frigate is insanely bad. People always gravitate to the optimal thing as this is how life works. Natural selection, schedules, you name it, they all move towards the optimum. In reality the victory and santisma and any big gun ship WAS bad at sailing, its not some made up number its reality. You stick a massive wooden platform weighed down by 100 guns it will sail poorly. Your points system doesn't make sense in a open world game, this isn't basketball or some other sport.. you win or you lose the battle, and your ship, and a point modifier has nothing to do with it.. France and Spain didn't win at Trafalgar on points because they lost the battle but were outclassed by the British skill. See the logic? Please don't use MWO as a reference, its a terrible game and most people agree its terrible. Its also a arena game with no MMO aspects. Apples to oranges.
  2. I think avatars are a necessity at some point (not yet obviously) for this to truly feel like a MMO. Even if it just boils down to an avatar you can walk around a port with or walk around your ship with etc. It should by no means be a development priority but it would certainly help the game feel complete one day far in the future. The technical issues of having avatars in Unity in a MMO setting is big though... no ones made a MMO in unity before =/
  3. The problem is round shot kills and wounds more people below deck than grapeshot does.
  4. There was a wonderful time when top deck grape and bottom deck bronze was lurvly.

  6. I doubt the devs (6 people) will ever model 200 ships without community help. I'm not sure if you understand how it works but the model itself doesn't have to be sea worthy, the characteristics given to it by the game engine make it float or turn at a certain speed etc.

    Anything they do now is futile, the game was put in a coffin in 2010 when the devs who knew the code left FLS. The game was ran from then on out by spreadsheet editors and producers (cough Fodderboy) with high minded ideas such as a mass rebalancing of ship stats to hide their incompetence as developers. This culminated in Portalus buying the game and admitting they 'don't have the capability' to add new PB maps. It says it all. All they can do is edit items (note the new ship stats with new names but the same models AND the economy overhaul) when there were and are much more pressing issues. When a dev team of a established game tries to re balance the economy that has worked fine and even won critical praise on release rather than introduce new content to a 6 year old game it is a sign they can't add new content. It is also a bad sign when the most committed players for 5+ years suddenly all quit the game. It might be a conspiracy theory but isn't it a wonderful coincidence that the game was "hacked" at the time of the most disagreement from the community towards the games direction? Not only this but isn't it convenient that the forums, the one and only source of criticism on the game never came back but were instead replaced by a comment system on the Portalus website where EVERY post has to be OK'd by the mods? Fishy smells. The devs know and knew the game was beyond saving when they bought it from FLS and are using smoke and mirrors to farm the community for money by making people buy everything with micro transactions while putting zero actual content dev time into the game.

  10. If the Constitution must run from a larger ship, is she not beat? Imagine a war game, you need to beat or shut down the constitution, making her run away works.

    Or its useless additions that are made to hide the fact the 3 devs have no power to change anything besides spreadsheets.
  13. You have to be invited to the closed testing, its not available or released yet.
  14. Too much management is bad imo, if it turns into a mini-game you've gone too far. That being said there is definite attraction to a FTL model, but maybe less as its real time with no pause as in FTL.
