  1. Im considering playing France now =P But i dont speak french and so far the majority of the in game chatting has been in french =(. And thats kinda offputting for me.
  2. The Red white and Blue name is kinda confusing ^^ In that it can be used for half the nations in the game The British,The Dutch, the French (Republic) and The US all have flags that are Red White and Blue.
  3. The Dutch players really need to watch it though. I hear the French have adopted a new secret weapon.
  4. In The Caribbean they simply Trade out there mounts For different horses. The Dutch will never see them comming.
  5. Well main problem with the Dutch... They Speak bloody Dutch...
  6. No mate! =( if only. Then i would play the french without a doubt.
  7. Well she is within the timeline. She was launched 1814 and we have 2 ships launched later already in the game (Trincon 1817 and Mercery 1820) I see no problem with having her in game. Just make her the highest rank (same rank as First rates) and price her accordingly. That would make her an interesting choice trading Nr of guns of a slightly smaller ship but with good hitting power and thats faster and more manuverable. Id have no problem with USS Independance (1814) or any of her layouts before 1820. or with USS Washington (1814) wich was launched soon after but as a 74. Washington is neigh impossible though seeing as no plans of her has survived.
  8. I just feel like we have enough russian ships =P. we have 3 russian ships currently in game (russian flagged anyway) with another one on the way (this one). and in comparison there is 1 spanish ship and no dutch swedish or danish ships. and Russia is not even in the game =P. So id love if the focus was on nationalities in the game and then maby with the russian ships as a bonus later on. And one of the "russian" ships is not even russian... (Diana/Frigate/Cherubim)
  9. Cant wait to see L'Hermione and the Götheborg sail together. But maby they already have? (Full size replica ship of a swedish Indiaman) Götheborg has made several China trips maby they could sail together to China some time?. L'Hermione could be her escort ^^
  10. Well the "problem" with the boarding atm is that the current system is that ships have to travel at less then 5 knots in order to board. They should make it so the speed difference has to be less then 5 knots for example. Since atm if 2 ships are Side to side traveling at 6-10 knots with sides touching you can not board. Even though both ships are moving at the exact same speeds so the relevant speed differance is non existant. so atm i pretty much have to force ships to slow down by collisions or if they make mistakes turning into the wind. so they should change the system so 2 ships traveling 6-10 knots in the same direction can board while ships traveling opposite directions at 5-10 knots each can not board since the merging speed is to high. but the boarding range itself is not a problem.
  11. i think they should either limit the armament to what they would/should carry. Or (and probably better) Give harsh Penelties for Over arming ships. First give ppl a warning (or a note) when they have heavier weapons then reccomended on a ship (18lb cannons on the Belle instead of the 12lb cannons lets say) and then give them handeling penalties for using to heavy armament (making them slower more sluggish top heavy turn worse etc) So while u can use to heavy armament its not optimal. Instead of it being the only choice if u dont want to be outclassed. And also they need to give Carronades lower rankings =/. Carronades are much lighter and needs a far smaller crew then Long guns. For example a 32Lb Carronade needs a smaller crew then an 8lb long gun. Wich is the reason why alot of smaller ships (Frigates brigs etc) Used Carronades to a large degree. For example a ship like the Suprise (Unité) Could have 9lb (8lb) long guns or 32lb Carronades on the gun deck with 4lb long guns or 18lb carronades on the QD Giving it several times the broadside weight (at the cost of range and accuracy) While in this game the Suprise can not use the 32lb Carronades it could use but instead gets the 12lb Long guns that it could not use. So if they feel Carronades are OP then maby balance them by reducing the effective range or accuracy. But dont Remove them and add "unhistorical" armaments instead.
  12. As i understood there where attempts to use the Suprise with 12ld guns on the gun deck but the strain proved to be to heavy thus they where replaced with 32lb Carronades. They really need to lower the Rating of Carronades letting ships have there correct Carronades. For example Suprise would use 32lb carronades on gun deck and 18lb carronades on QD. and the Trinc would have 32lb carronades on the Quarter deck. While now its limited to 24lb Carronades or 12lb Long guns. 32lb Carronades should be equal or lower rank then 12 cannons. Maby nerf the range abit on carronades if they need balancing. Put atm most of the smaller ships cant use the Carronades they historically used
  13. Id suggest more Single frigates and in 2-3s And also change the structure of the more "powerfull" fleets. like instead of a fleet with a 5-7 Victory/Santissima/Pavel give it 1 Santissima 1 vic 1-2 Pavels and 3-5 Bellonas (Third rates) Since the Third rate should be the by far most common Liner. And Frigates where the largest ship to commonly be serving solo (Wich is what made them very popular among daring commanders that wantd to rise in the ranks) Daring Commanders often wanted a powerfull frigate (5th rate with 12-24lb guns) more then they wanted to get a liner. Since a Frigate would give them a better chance to get Pricemoney / glory for themselves instead of having to slave around at blockades or wait in ports and when they finally saw action they where in large formations with Admirals getting the glory.
  14. so we have 3 9lb (8lb) Frigates 3 18lb Frigates and 1 24 lb Frigate (or can the Trinc use 24lb guns?...) and 1 24lb heavy Frigate (Connie) But no 12lb Frigates so far?. And 12lb Frigates where in no way rare... So id say Make the belle a 12lb Frigate (if it is indeed the 1765 Belle Poule)
  15. if those are the actual numbers then the ingame armament is really wrong... since not only dose the ingame variant have 18lb guns on the lower deck u can have 12lb long guns or 24lb carronades on the quarterdeck. and is that 6 sixpounders per side? or 6 in total.
  16. How many guns did the Belle Poule (1765) have?. Shes Rated between 26-32 guns in what i can find any1 have an exact count and if she carried 12lb long guns on her Quarterdeck or if they where smaller.
  17. Hmm i think the ship listed as the Belle Poule is the wrong one?. The Current Belle Poule on the list is the Belle Poule (1765) Armed with 26x 12 Lb guns and 4x 6lb guns While the Belle Poule Currently ingame is more likley the Belle Poule (1806) armed with 28x 18lb Guns and 14x 32lb Carronades + 2x 9lb guns and 2x 32lb carronades on the Forecastle. So since the Ingame Belle Poule is armed with 40 guns and can carry 18lb guns if its indeed a Belle Poule it must be the 1802 Belle Poule.
  18. And also is it "confirmed" that this ship is based off the Chapman plans and not off the HMS Diana (1794)
  19. And also on a In game note rather then an historical one. Has the "Frigate" been nerfed? I think it cant use 18lb guns anymore? The largest it can use now seems to be 12lb long guns or Carronades. Edit: Nevermind its just "inccorect" stats on the "buy" page but once u get the ship u can use 18lb cannons.
  20. why would she have been danish if she was built?... Considering Fredrik Henrik af Chapman was a SWEDISH ship builder ^^ Sweden and Russia had a larger number of wars during the time Chapman designed ships so most of this designs (that where built) faced combat with the russians. and a few where captured and where well liked by the russians as they where very well built ships. For example the Swedish HMS Venus a 128 Ft 44 gun frigate armed with 26 24lb guns and 14 6lb guns built 1783 and captured by a russian squadron in 1789.
  21. Good eye My profile Picture is indeed a Ship of the Wasa class (not Wasa herself but a member of the Class Wasa was the leadship off probably HMS Dristigheten) I have a Post on the class in the Additional ship suggestions Thread.
  22. any1 know of any1 swedish ships in the workings?. (and no i dont count the Yacht =P) Maby one of Chapmans designs?.
  23. I have updated the earlier Post with some more information and some changes. And also for those of you wondering what those ship names mean let me make a translation. 1.HMS Kronprins Gustaf Adolf (1782) (HMS Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf) 2.HMS Fäderneslandet (1783) (HMS Fatherland) 3.HMS Ömheten (1783) (HMS Gentleness) 4.HMS Rättvisan (1783) (HMS Justice) 5.HMS Dygden (1784) (HMS Virtue) 6.HMS Äran (1784) (HMS Honor/Honour) 7.HMS Försiktigheten (1784) (HMS Caution/Discretion) 8.HMS Dristigheten (1785) (HMS Audacity) 9.HMS Manligheten (1785) (HMS Manliness) xD my Favourite 10.HMS Tapperheten (1785) (HMS Bravery/Valour) And the HMS stand for Hans (Hennes) Majestäts Skepp Wich translates as u might think to His (Her) Majesty's Ship. Internationally swedish ships might often have the Prefix HSwMS (His Swedish Majesty's Ship) to prevent Confusion with British ships.
  24. Not that wasa. You are thinking of the 1627 Wasa. Im talking about the 1778 Wasa. The 1778 Vasa was in service up to 1827.
  25. Why not a swedish ship from the master himself im thinking either 1 of his frigates or 1 of the Wasa class 60 gun Ship of the line. She was the Prototype Ship class of 10 ships orderd she won over Gilbert Sheldons ship the 68 gun Drottning (Queen) Sofia Magdalena She was launched in 1778 And was designed by the well known Fredrik Henrik af Chapman. Swedens navy was made to very often work together with its army as such it was important for ships to be able to support in landings and costal operations. As such Af Chapman had the idea for a ship that could both stand in the line of battle with the same firepower of a larger ship but with the ability of a smaller ship of going in shallow waters. She was a 2 decker with 60 guns but to give her the broadsides of the normal 74s those 60 guns where 36 and 24 pound guns giving her a fiesty broadside. She was also a very stiff sailor and with full sail she would list no more then 10 Degrees at 12-14 knot winds. Her lower cannon deck was also highley placed giving her a big edge in rough seas. She was sold in 1803 to the Swedish east india company that used her in 1 trip to kanton. After that trip she was bought back in 1808 and rebuilt to a 50 gun ship and served in that fashion to 1827 when she was broken up. The only real criticism of her by the navy was that her upper gundeck was deemed to have to thin timbers and would not offer enough protection for the hours of punishment a line battle might result in. As a result of that the following 10 ships where built slightly bigger and stronger with more protection for the upper gun deck aswell as the increase to 62-64 guns instead of the 60 of Wasa. The 10 ships following her while where all similar but not exact copies. And had between 60-64 guns. And where the Following 1.HMS Kronprins Gustaf Adolf (1782) 2.HMS Fäderneslandet (1783) 3.HMS Ömheten (1783) 4.HMS Rättvisan (1783) 5.HMS Dygden (1784) 6.HMS Äran (1784) 7.HMS Försiktigheten (1784) 8.HMS Dristigheten (1785) 9.HMS Manligheten (1785) 10.HMS Tapperheten (1785) 1 of her sisters Hms Dristigheten was 1 of swedens most prestigious ships she was launched 85 and served in a number of large battels including Battle of Öland 1789 Battle of Reval 1790 and especially at Battle of Viborg Bay (1790) and in every battle she saw she was always the first ship in the line and she always did well. In 1806 she was largley overhauld and made into a 74 gun ship and served in the 1808-1809 finnish war against russia in that form. She served as a ship of the line untill 1856 when she was made a hospital ship. And in 87 she was finaly written off and used in tests with underwater mines. At that point her hull was 90 years old making her the last of her sister ships. (one of her sister ships HMS Kronprins Gustaf Adolf) the Gustav Adolf was launched 1982 with 62 guns and was the first ship of the Class after the Wasa Prototype Ship. She was armed with 26 x 36 pounders 28 x 24 pounders 6 x 6 pounders. She was lost 1788 from grounding outside Helsingfors (Helsinki) Either of the ships in her class would make for great 2 decker line ships and would be both versitile and powerfull. And as always sorry for bad english.
